I visited this facility
Upon walking into the facility I was struck with luxurious atmosphere. I was also struck by the energy of the people at the facility. I was expecting to see immobile elderly people sitting around in a despondent state. On the contrary there where a number of activities going on. It seemed more like a college campus for elderly people rather than an assisted living facility. I wanted to move in my self. My mother on the other hand found endless flaws. She insisted that the "whole thing was too staged". There was a host waiting in the hotel like front lobby complete with a grand piano, waiting to take us on a personalized tour.We where shown A lovely large swimming pool with about a dozen residents engaged in what seemed like "in water" aerobics. We where shown a mezzanine area with a large plasma screen tv monitor. We were shown an impressive library with internet enabled computers. This actually appealed to my mother who has been wanting to learn the internet. We where told they also offered internet classes. They offer one bedroom, two bedroom and studio options. The apartments where just beautiful. They location is amazing, in the same neighborhood that my mother already lives. They have 24 hour security in house doctors offices. In house nurses. I was sold.My concern was how much all this was going to cost. I feel I didn't get clear answers as i would have liked. And when I finally presured the associate for a ballpark figure I was aghast to hear it would be upward of $3500 a month. And this initial price was subject to rate increases. Also nothing was covered by medicare. I also keep finding something another I cant understand in relation to rates in the admission agreement. I think if I could at least get a solid idea of how much it would cost I would make a quicker decision.Though my visit to facility was enjoyable and everyone was charming. I am in a state of confusion as to how to proceed. All the costs seem to be out of pocket. And as my mothers pockets only run so deep, the difference comes out of my pocket. At least one thousand dollars out of my own pocket every month. I didn't think I had to contribute more than maybe two or three hundred dollars a month. But considering all the horror stories in the media about assisted living facilities, the Palace at Coral Gables is one place I would feel safe knowing that my elderly parent was residing at. Although their are less expensive homes in the area, I still have my heart set on this place for my parent.
