I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents moved into Lafreniere Assisted Living Center. It was fairly good, I'm just getting used to it, and my parents too. They are getting used to having new people there, too. I did like it and it was probably half the price of this other one that I was looking at, and it had good reviews also. I enjoyed it, when I took a tour I liked the environment. I've seen the food, it looked good. They've got bingo, walks in the park, and they've got a beauty salon. I know they've got church services, coffee, and donuts.

I visited this facility

The atrium at Lafreniere is an excellent, very well kept, and spacious facility. It looks like a nice place to live. The rooms looks like nice apartments. They take the residents for rides into the city and they have broadway productions on video tapes. That sounds interesting. The staff is very courteous and very helpful. They spent an ample amount of time with us.

I visited this facility

I visited The Atrium for my friend. It was very clean. It's two-story, and it is all-interior access, but there is an elevator. It is very tropical with the plants. Each room was like a converted apartment complex, where somebody has their own place with a beautiful kitchen and living room, and it is not set up more like studio-type setup. Then you just bring all your own furniture. They have three meals a day. They also have a memory-care side of the property, so my friend could have gone from one side to the other, it would have really worked out well. As for those who are more independent, they have a beautiful laundry room. What was most remarkable was that it was most reasonable of all the assisted-living places. The staff was very friendly. They helped me a lot on the phone. In fact, the director had even agreed to meet my friend while she was in the nursing to pre-evaluate her to make sure that everything would be a good fit. They were extremely helpful. They did have a lot of different activities. I saw a lot of people feeling very comfortable just being around in little general meeting areas. I didn't see anybody cranky or crabby or upset. It was a very relaxed atmosphere.

I visited this facility

The Atrium was very pretty. It had two Atriums in it -- one for assisted living area and one for the memory care unit. The dining room adjoined them. It was full of very pretty plants and a fountain. It was right in the center of the complex so that a lot of apartments overlooked it. We had lunch there one day; it was very nice and they had good food. It was one of the least expensive in our area. The director who showed us around was very knowledgeable and helpful. We actually wanted a two-bedroom apartment, and they do not have any available.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My wife is at The Atrium. I chose it because it fits my budget better. The staff has been OK. They're pretty good. The rooms are very nice. They're little apartments and not just a room. For activities, they play games, they sit around and paint fingernails, and they have people come in and sing to them. They go for walks too. They feed the patients.

I would not recommend this facility to anyone! It is a ripoff all about numbers, That's all they see. You never see the same faces, security of the building is laxed, it's just not a good choice. I have been to visit several times around meal services and the flies and gnats overrun the dining service. Just horrible! The building has an odor from the old carpet in it and there aren't enough staff to address the residents needs properly. Not a good choice. Everything that glitters isn't gold!!!

My father just passed after living at the Atrium for almost five years. This place is amazing, and the staff so caring. The other residents formed some very strong friendships with my father. The atrium has my highest recommendation!!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father was there for four years in the 90's and has been there again since 2011. I am very pleased with this facility. The staff is so kind and friendly. The food is delicious. In fact, they just got a new chef, and I was there at Thanksgiving time. The food was amazing, and I took a minute to introduce myself to the chef to tell him. My dad's a bit of a grump (an understatement), and when I asked him what he thought about the new chef, he said he thought he was too nosy! What do you mean, Daddy? He said he's always coming to the table to ask questions like...Did we like the meal? What was our favorite dessert? Would we prefer more fish? haha...nosy! I wish more restaurants had nosy chefs:-) I have plenty more great things to say.

During Hurricane Isaac and a mandatory evacuation, residents were forced to stay at the facility to reduce budget costs of transferring to a new facility. Let me repeat that, DURING A MANDATORY EVACUATION, RESIDENTS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO EVACUATE. There was no backup generator during the power outage which meant residents were forced to deal with high temperatures and limited food sources. This company should not be allowed to operate as long as the care of it's residents is not in their best interest.

I visited this facility

I have been there many times of the last three years. I worked with the church that meets there every Sunday afternoon. It is a lovely facility, the atmosphere is peaceful, the sunshine streaming in through the glass is cheery, the colorful fish can be quite fascinating. The residents get along well together. The attendants are pleasant to be around and I've heard them receive compliments from the harder to please people; and they respond quickly to a need. The ladies at the reception desk always have a pleasant greeting. The only negatives I have heard or seen there, is that the menu is pretty much the same every week. I know that a few of the long-term residents would appreciate a little variety in the menu. They have sandwiches every Sunday evening; I know a couple of the ladies in particular, would like to see a little more variety, in the Sunday menu mostly.
