I visited this facility

Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa was nice and clean. It was an older facility, but they were in the middle of remodeling to modernize it. The staff was very helpful and very pleasant. They took their time to explain everything that went on there and the services they offered, especially for assisted living and the different tier levels of support that were offered. The placement coordinator, Rose, was fantastic. She was very communicative and talked about lots of details. The director of the facility was very nice. The rooms were spacious and very clean. All the ones we looked at were either private studios or private 1-bedroom apartments.

Provider Response

Thank you Ian for your review. We especially appreciate your kind comments about our associates. We wish you the very best in your search for a senior living community and look forward to a second visit.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

After touring 20 different facilities, Legacy stood out from all the others. It's light, bright, clean and homey. The apartments are very large with different floor plans available. The staff is amazing and always willing to go the extra mile if needed. The incredible thing to me is how many staff members have been there 5, 10, fifteen years. Legacy obviously treats their employees well and hire quality people! Our mom has met many new friends, is participating in activities, and and is happy she is there! After almost two months of living at Legacy, she refers to it as home!!! Our family could not be more grateful to the Legacy staff and residents!!!

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this thoughtful review, Deb. We love your mom and all of you crazy kids. ;) We feel so grateful to have the opportunity to care for your mom and honored to be the place she calls home.

Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa is horrible and extremely outdated. You also have to take a Covid test as soon as you walk in the door or else you're not going to see or talk to anyone. They have a lot of hidden costs if you don't know how to ask for it. It's also actually the one that charges the most on transportation. We didn't get to do a tour because I wasn't going to do a Covid test, but someone did sit out there and talk with us. We were given a room size, we were given the cost of things, and we were given their calendar. Well, a lot of these places you go to, they give you a really nice folder with all of the amenities and everything that you could look back through in reference, but at the Legacy, it was run off on a copier machine where they needed to change the toner, and there was nothing to sell you on the place at all. The presentation and marketing were not good. I was not impressed with them at all. Most of the places have like a 70-90% capacity even with Covid going on and on asking the Legacy, they said that they normally sit about 50-60% and that right now they're about 35-40% still under capacity. We should have known that there was a reason for it, and as we got to hear it all and stuff, we could clearly see why.

My mother is in the memory care unit at Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa right now. She's doing OK, and it was really good until about a year ago. There have been some issues. The staff is very good, but they're understaffed. The rooms are very nice and very spacious. Everybody has their own room in the memory care unit. They have their own bathroom, and it is very large with a nice walk-in shower. The room is very big, you can put a large bed in there, dressers, a chair, and some people even have a couch in their room. She has a nice window that she can look out of. Their activities were very good when we moved her in. They have other people that run it now, but we got spoiled with the one that was there. They don't go out of their way to help people with their memory. They have an independent living side as well as a memory care side. It's clean, nice, and presentable when you walk in. The staff listens to you with your concerns and they try to take action on everything and straighten out anything that you might have a problem with. There's always somebody at the front desk and the higher ups are usually around. For the independent side, they take them on a bus, but they have to be able to take care of themselves. The food was good two years ago, but it has declined over the years. The older residents have problems with their teeth and a lot of times they give them a big piece of meat, and in the memory care they don't have knives, so they have to wait for somebody to cut it up, and by the time they do that the food is cold. I've tasted it and it's like cafeteria food. They don't make homemade things, and most things are out of a can. There are no fresh vegetables, but they make a good breakfast. The food leaves a lot to be desired.

Not impressed with the little Asian aid on nights last week. (Wed)...she's useless...the poor aid she was supposed to be helping i felt bad for her...watched this idiot stand BEHIND the chair and push client with one hand while the second aid tried to lift the client....wow work injury waiting to happen...if this girl doesn't want to work...send her home. Your other staff or clients going to get hurt .this chick don't know with the he'll she's doing. If she's a cna she needs more training on two person transfer assist. Someone's gonna get hurt...

We went to The Legacy, and that’s where my mother-in-law is right now. It is a beautiful facility. It’s fairly new. My mother-in-law’s apartment is quite nice. It has one bedroom and a kitchenette type thing with a regular size stove and a refrigerator. It also has a nice-size living room and a nice size bathroom. Right now, my mother-in-law does need extra services, and she pays extra for those like medication administration, walking, transfering to meals, and showering. The facility itself as far as their base rate covers 3 meals a day, which are wonderful. They have an amazing array of meal choices. Everyday, they have 2 entrees to choose from and a soup and a salad. The food is phenomenal. The service also covers, I think, one load of laundry plus linens every week, and housekeeping every week. They have a salon so that you can go and get your hair done, and you pay for that extra. We really like the staff. For the most part, we have been very happy with this community. It’s very clean. It’s really, really nice, and I would recommend it really to anybody. They have church service on Sunday. Once a week, they have happy hour, and they have movies. They have shuttles that can take you shopping. You can take a shuttle on certain days of the week to medical appointments that are free within a 12-mile radius. They have bingo, exercise classes, and book club. It’s a very nice place.

I only give one star because of a few, very few of the caregivers and med techs that actually give a hoot about the residence. Assited Living ? Ha ! What assistance ???? Poorly managed from the top down, horrible administration, they actually penalize their employees by "caring and doing too much" , food is horrible, hardly any activities , none at all on Sundays its a ghost town, always short staffed especially at night, caregiver to resident ratio is unacceptable by anyones' standards,, caregivers act as if the residents are a burden it is so sad. I saw an original caregiver literally throw meds at a wheel chair bound male resident on oxygen and laugh and squawked at him to hurry up and take it. On two different occasions my parent went with out crucial medications that left him paralyzed one time for 4 days and on a different occasion for 3 days (both holiday weekends). Left in wheelchair for hours without being helped to the bathroom to the point of urinating all over the floor all the while charging a fortune for a "two" person assist, sometimes left in wheelchair to sleep in it overnight. This time I have done a better job researching and visiting and interviewing a plethora of assisted living residences. Please if you have a parent that needs assistance at all, DO NOT bring your loved one to live here.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My friend and her husband live at The Legacy. This facility is fairly new. However, I have been up to their apartment, and it looks very restricting as far as I'm concerned. Of course, they have got the things from their own house there. She is in her 80s, and he is in his 90s, and if you're that old, your furniture is old, so if you're looking at the apartment, to me it is not that welcoming, but to them, it looks familiar. I did have lunch there, and I thought the food was good, and the service was well-handled. The food was at the right temperature when it was served, and it was nicely done. The ladies that worked in the dining hall were very attentive. The Legacy is not as attractive, but it is a lot cheaper than the other facility. It is not as posh, but it doesn't have to be really. I think probably more than half of people there are there for the care and not how fancy their gigs are.

My husband and I moved to Legacy; he lives in the assisted living, and I live in the independent living. I am very happy, and I like living here. They do a good job, and they do what they're supposed to do. It is clean and well decorated. They have movies, arts, bingo, and card games. I am just finishing up an exercise class, and I'm going to a discussion on the historical aspect of Arizona.

We have already moved in at Legacy Retirement Residence. We have been here for a month now. I had heard about this community from others, and when we came in here, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be here. It is beautiful, it is clean, it is relatively new, and it has all the latest technology. My first impression of this community is that it was wonderful and beautiful. They have all levels of care. One of the strongest reasons why I chose this place was that if one or the other of us went into the memory section, we would be able to go together as a couple. The staff is very friendly. They serve three meals. The food is magnificent. They have two chefs. Everything looked good. There are two dining rooms. The one that we use is very nice. I think the other one is for the memory unit. We have a one-bedroom, which is about 595 square feet. It is perfect for us. We like small places. All utilities are paid, including TV and the Internet. I looked at the list of activities on the board, and there might be some entertainment of good quality that comes in. There are a number of different card groups. There is a craft group. They also take people out, and not only do they take them shopping or to the doctor, but they take them on trips with a van. They have a beauty shop and a manicure and pedicure facility. They also have a workout and fitness room.
