I visited this facility

We toured The Ivy of McKinney for my mother, and I liked all of it, but we just can't afford it. It seems like a great community. Everybody cares about each other. It seems like it was a great adult community. That's what it was like for me. They were eating during our tour, and they all seemed excited to go eat. The rooms were on the older side, but it was nothing bad. The place was very clean. It just seemed like an older community compared to the other facility I had gone to. They had a beauty shop, dining, and a theater. They had games, and they have like a social bar or something like that, like evening cocktails. They also have an elevator. They offer rides to all the local restaurants and Dairy Queen and that kind of stuff. The staff were very friendly. It's homey.

I visited this facility

I toured The Ivy of McKinney. We are looking for upper assisted living or high functioning memory care, and they did not fit that at all. It's a large facility. It's three stories. It looked more like an apartment building. The gentleman I met was terrific, but my mother-in-law couldn't be on an upper floor. The community rooms were small. It was more for senior living without needing much assistance, so it was a definite no. I met two people, and they both were terrific. They were very nice and very helpful. From wandering through, it was not the type of facility that I think my mother-in-law needed. If you didn't need as much assistance as my mother-in-law, it might be something to look at. However, a three-story apartment building was not going to work for her. It wasn't that the facility was bad, it was not appropriate for my mother-in-law.

I went to The Ivy of McKinney. The director gave me the tour. I loved the community that there is in that facility. Everyone seems to love everyone. There was a lot of joking and laughter with each other. It was just wonderful to hear all the fun that the residents have. The apartments were roomy, clean, and absolutely perfect for my mother's needs. They had an exercise and craft area. It was absolutely clean, smelled fresh, and was just very good. I was actually there during their lunchtime, so I didn't see any activities other than them coming back and forth from the dining room.

I liked the staff of The Ivy of McKinney and its actual facilities. The rooms seemed clean. The residents were actively moving around and appeared to be well cared for. The rooms were a good size. Not too big, not too small but very homey with a little kitchenette area. That was a nice touch. They have a media room with a big screen TV where residents can come together and watch football games, which my mom loves. They also have a little library area where they play games/board games. I think the activities director was leading a group in a game. So, that was good to see.

I loved The Ivy of McKinney. There were a lot of residents around. I loved the space that my dad would be in. The person that I met was really knowledgeable on benefits and things that I didn't know we'd have access to. He was super helpful in guiding me with some of that. The staff was very excellent and knowledgeable. You could tell he'd been in the industry for a while. He knows what is important to this generation of seniors. He was great, and I really liked him. The facility was very clean. I saw nurses and other people there, and they were all very friendly. I was greeted by everyone I met, which was also great. The residents seemed happy. They have three meals a day. The cable is included in their room. They actually have little kitchens in their room, which would be something my dad would like. I like the medical alert in the room that they wear when they're there. They have activities and all sorts of things. I saw the kitchen and saw the people eating. It smelled good.

Provider Response

Thank you for your comments and feedback. We are pleased you had a great experience. Thank you for choosing our community as your dad's new home. We look forward to serving him as well as your family. It is our pleasure to be a resource for our seniors and we pride ourselves on being experts.

We're thinking of moving my brother-in-law to The Ivy of McKinney. The nurse who came out and evaluated him told us that he need memory care, instead of just a nursing home environment. We looked at the memory unit and housing, and everything was real nice. They were entertaining the residents for the afternoon, and I think it was regarding Veterans Day. Everything was really nice and clean. They showed us the room and everything seemed to be fine. Everybody was real friendly and professional. We weren't there very long, but it looked like everything was really fine and nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has been in The Ivy of McKinney. The staff is very friendly and my mom really enjoyed the people that were there. She striked up immediate friendships with them, and there's lots of activities that she enjoys to do every day. They have bingo, karaoke, different games, and stuff. They have a coffee machine downstairs, which she likes, and an ice cream machine that residents can use anytime they want. I haven't tried the food yet, but I just know that she's not really impressed with it. It's a three story building, and she lives on the third floor, but elevator access is available to all the different floors, and every floor has a little common area, then there's a dining room downstairs, which is also very nice. She got her own one-bedroom apartment, and it is pretty spacious, with a large bathroom and large walk-in closet.

My dad is at the memory care unit of The Ivy of McKinney. I like that there are med techs who assist with his medication, so there's somebody who is actually medically involved in the distribution of medicine to the residents. The facility is very nice, clean, and they have it together. They have a barber shop and a beauty salon that are in the assisted living section but are also accessible to the memory care residents. They allow pets, too. The staff and the caretakers are good. I like that they have a beverage cart that they take around for the residents. With the food itself, they are cognizant of the diabetic residents and the various types of meals they need, so I think they really pay attention to their needs.

The salesperson at The Ivy of McKinney was very welcoming and gave us a lot of good information about assisted living compared to independent and a mixture of the two. They were helpful and inviting. I like the concept of having divided rooms rather than one big room, and they have that. It had a kitchen, a bedroom, a closet, a huge bathroom, and a nice living area. I was impressed with the apartment. It was attractive and would be workable.

Provider Response

Thank you, Lydia we appreciate your feedback. I certainly enjoyed meeting and your family. I hope to see you soon! Please let me know if I can be of assistance as you continue your journey.

We're happy with The Ivy of McKinney. My mom's apartment is very large and the feel of the community is very homey. They have several outings every week and a plethora of activities every day that they can participate in. I've eaten several meals with my mom and I've enjoyed all of them. The caregivers were all very friendly and involved.

I only saw the assisted living facility of The Ivy of McKinney. The rooms were a good size and nice. I didn't see anything wrong with them. I didn't see any activities, but they had an activities calendar. They had a nice dining area and a little coffee shop area, and even an on-site beauty salon. I interacted with one person and she was wonderful, very friendly, and outgoing. The residents looked like they were kind of sitting around, but to be fair, there was a major storm happening so they probably couldn't do a whole lot. The power went out when we were there because of the storm.

Provider Response

Thank you for leaving this review! Resident safety is always a priority here at The Ivy, and we have many measures in place to be able to keep residents safe and comforted in the face of storms like we experienced. We apologize that you didn't have the opportunity to see one of our many events and activities for our residents during your visit, and we would love to invite you back to experience them! Please do let us know if there is anything else we can do for you, we would love the opportunity to meet with you again and provide a look into the many offerings we have for our residents here at The Ivy!

The person who took me around Orchard Park was very informative, very nice, and seemed to be nice to the clients who were there. The dining room didn't smell funny, it seemed nice, everybody was sitting there, and they had an attendant at every table with all the patients.
