I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Horrible place and short staffed, causing them to cut corners. My mom was neglected after a serious fall, which they NEVER called me about, then lied and she died 8 days later from a severe brain bleed. They had the nerve to move someone into her room while she was actively dying down the hall. Don't let the tour of the beautiful facility fool you. They don't care about your loved ones, only money.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has been in Walnut Crossing for about two and a half weeks now, and it has worked out very well. Right now, everything is five stars. I can't say enough good things. The food is probably more of four stars, only because it's not always hot. My dad likes his food extra hot. Aside from that, it's very good. He's very happy there and very pleased with everything. The staff has been very gracious. The facilities are immaculate. The size is perfect for my dad, so everything there is very good. Their activities director has been very good. It feels like it's a little bit more expensive because it is a smaller facility. He doesn't really need that much help other than with the visual limitations. It's very hard to gauge what a person who has visual limitations needs. He compensates very well. I feel like the cost is higher compared to the other place.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

I went to Walnut Crossing. I think it's absolutely wonderful. The residents were very, very open, and walking around and talking, and they just seemed so happy. The place was very neat and clean. I didn't get any food, and I had to ask for something to drink again like in the other places. I went into the office with two people and I said, "Could I have something to drink?" And they had a refrigerator right there and they pulled out a bottle of water, which I thought was very good. Both of the ladies that talked to me were absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed them. When I left, the residents were playing bingo, and when I was given a tour there was a huge calendar on the wall, and from the time you got up to the time you wanted to go to bed, there was something for you to do. They had a nice library. They had a nice room to workout/exercise. They had a person who was in charge of all the activities. They had a quilt group for those that liked to do quilting. I absolutely love that place. If I could move in there today, I would do it, but it costs $3,600 a month. Once a month they have a happy hour, where residents can get a beer, or a mixed drink. They had popcorn on movie nights. They just have something all the time.

I visited this facility

The only holdback I had with Walnut Crossing is that it was so far from where I live, but it's literally around the corner from where I work. The staff was fantastic. The food was fantastic. Everybody looked at me and spoke to me. Everybody was very friendly and very outgoing. I liked the rooms, and they were bigger rooms. The place was clean. They have an activity director, and they've got something going on every day.

I visited this facility

I toured Walnut Crossing. Some of the staff members came in when we were touring the rooms, and introduced themselves to me. We didn't have to pursue them to get introduced. They came in with housekeeping and the nurses. I talked to the head nurse for a very long length of time, and they were very nice. The facility was very clean and very personal. The tenants could decorate their own doors and the wall beside it, so they could acknowledge that the room was theirs. They don't want them to think that they're in a hotel. I also went through the memory facility which is a lock-down. It has the same apartments but without the refrigerator and microwave, it's the same area.

Provider Response

Thank you for your kind words, Dortha!

I visited this facility

I primarily toured the assisted living at Walnut Crossing, but I saw their memory care unit as well. The community was very bright, cheery, and clean. It felt homey. I didn't have a ton of interaction with the staff, but they were very knowledgeable and seemed very caring about trying to find the best option for my dad. Their rooms seemed roomier than some of the other ones that I searched for, they were clean, and basically had everything anyone would need. The dining room was shut off because they had some COVID cases at the time, so they had to eat in their rooms. They showed me their activities room, they showed me their worship area for church services, and they show me where the laundry and housekeeping were. They had areas like a coffee bar. The upkeep seemed nice, it was well-maintained.

Provider Response

Kelly, Thank you for your review of our community!

I visited this facility

We did a video tour of Walnut Crossing on the staff's phone. She took us around to the common areas and into a room and showed us the courtyard. She invited us to come out to sit on the front porch at our earliest convenience, and we were able to actually do that and go to the window and see in the room to actually get the visual on the layout of the actual room that they had open. We weren't allowed in the building, but we were on the front porch on the outside. The staff was really nice and very professional. I don't remember what activities they do other than morning exercises. The facility looked very clean, newer, and kept up. The flower beds in the front to the entranceway were all very pretty.

I visited this facility

Walnut Crossing did not have any rooms available, but everything was good and very modern. The staff was very nice, very interactive, and very good. They showed us three different rooms, one was setup as a showroom and the other two were completely empty. The dining room was very cozy, and the color scheme was good. There seemed to be plenty of parking, and everything was clean and tidy outside.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was in Walnut Crossing, but the care was so bad that he's currently in the hospital. Originally he was accepted for assisted living and that area was nice. He stayed one night, but I didn't feel that there was adequate care. They put him in memory care, and they promised me that he would have more care, but they have very limited people there. There were also people there that I think should be in a skilled nursing home instead. He was supposed to get two showers a week, but I didn't think they showered him one time. They were given small portions of food, it was not good, and he lost 24 pounds during his short stay there. They did some artwork, they had an activities director, but the activities were minimal, and a lot less than what I expected. They have a new management company that's going to come in and manage them, but I haven't talked to them yet. The food was terrible because they had an inexperienced cook; they need a chef. They have a shortage of staff, and the ratio is less than adequate. They were young, inexperienced, and they needed training, but there were a couple of good ones. The price was reasonable.

I like Walnut Crossing because it is new, but I didn't like that I didn't see any residents out and about. It led me to believe that maybe everybody is in his/her room, and that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for socialization for my mother. The rooms were all nice; I like that. However, the staff was not as prepared for me as the other one.

Provider Response

I visited my grandfather who was in the memory care facility. During his time here I was only able to visit one time but felt very welcome and comfortable. He was in his last stages of life so there was not a real interaction with staff because they gave us our privacy to be with him during this time. They made myself and I'm sure all my family feel welcome during my short visit they brought us out snacks and refreshments. I liked the fact that the memory care facility was locked at all times (it was hard for me to even get out).

Provider Response

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure caring for your Grandfather. We will continue to keep your family in our thoughts.
