Brookdale Mankato

Brookdale Mankato looked wonderful. I saw a one-bedroom. The size and layout were wonderful. It was very clean, very open, and very well done. I saw the entrance, the community area, the library, the dining space, and then off to the rooms, the administrator's office as well. I saw residents in communal spaces together, but I didn't see what activities they were doing. The facility looks well-maintained. I know they are continually improving and updating the whole facility. Everything looked good.

Brookdale Mankato is a smaller facility. So, it seems to be a very strong community, because all of the people know each other and have at least one friend. The food smelled and looked incredible. I liked that they don't serve any processed food. It's all home-cooked. For breakfast, you get to order what you want, while lunch is the big meal of the day, and then they eat something lighter for supper. If you don't want something that's being served for dinner, the cook will be happy to make you something else. Another thing that I liked was that the doors are locked. So, you have to have a code to get in or you have to ring the doorbell. The staff was just personable (and I think that's their strongest feature). The person who guided me on the tour introduced me to everybody. They were very pleasant to be around. They're actually working on remodeling various rooms, so they are wanting to improve. The bedroom they have right now is fairly small, but you have a six-foot-long closet and a good-sized bathroom. They also have a salon, a little living/sitting area with a fireplace, and big picture windows right there by the fireplace. The location is beautiful, so when you look out a window, it's gorgeous wherever you look. There's a little library and another little sitting area that's dedicated to veterans. They've got pictures on the wall of the veterans that have lived there and currently live there. It's just a nice tribute.

We toured Brookdale Mankato. It was a much smaller facility and has fewer people. They took us around and we met all of the staff. The rooms were smaller and probably more suited to my friend's needs because he has some memory troubles and some sight troubles. They introduced me to the cook, and we saw the menu and it looked fine. It looked like it had a good daily selection. The gal that talked to us upfront was a very nice gal, and the nurse was very accommodating. The place was much smaller, and the rooms were smaller, which is probably more suited to his needs. They can have a cat so if he was interested, he could bring his pet and they will let him. That is one thing that sold him on the place. I liked the staff. The menu that they offered was aligned for someone that had diabetes and things like that. Although he doesn't have diabetes, the menu could be adjusted for that.

The person who showed me around Brookdale Mankato was very nice. It's just too small of an area. There are only 18 beds. They have bingo. The dining area looked very good.

The rooms were too small, they do not have air conditioner in the building. The cares are good but the head person there was not friendly and didn't show compassion or dedication for her job

The rooms at Brookdale Mankato were small, and the number of patients was relatively small. They clustered the rooms around a main area which they use as a dining room. They also use it for community meetings. Because there was a small group of people, it served more as a community. Oftentimes, the staff would provide an opportunity for the residents to watch the food being prepared. However, it would be nice to have a little bit larger room.
