What makes the chef or dining program at Spring Oak at Louisa exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

Accepted Answer

Our Dietary Manager has been with the facility for over 20 years.  The entire Dietary staff place a lot of emphasis on ensuring resident dietary preferences are met and updated frequently, especially with our seasonal menu changes.  They do this by being active with the residents, assisting in serving, having meals with the residents, and even calling bingo.  All these opportunities to engage with the residents and residents with the Dietary staff make our program exceptional.

What safety features or security measures does Spring Oak at Louisa provide to protect residents who wander?

Accepted Answer

While we are not Memory Care certified, we do have the Wanderguard system to ensure residents who are an elopement risk cannot exit the facility without alarms notifying staff and magnetically locking doors.

Question 3

If Spring Oak at Louisa accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

Accepted Answer

We do accept dogs and cats, but as visitors.  Prior to visiting the vaccination records must be verified by staff to ensure the safety of our residents and the animal must be verified as being friendly.  Some residents and staff have allergies to dogs and cats so prior to arrival, please let us know you would like to bring in a pet, so we can ensure everyone's safety.

Accepted Answer

Currently, we are averaging one staff member for every two residents.

How does Spring Oak at Louisa keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?

Accepted Answer

We send emails out to family members regularly and each month a newsletter is sent to update everyone on current and upcoming events.  The facility Director is available afterhours and on weekends to meet anyone who has work or life constraints that prevent them from meeting during the day.

What transportation services does Spring Oak at Louisa offer to assisted living residents?

Accepted Answer

We have several transportation providers we work with to take our residents places, and JAUNT is always available.  Currently, we are in the process of obtaining transportation owned by the facility that is wheelchair lift capable.  We encourage family members to participate as much as possible in transportation as car time is a great time to talk and connect.

What places are near Spring Oak at Louisa or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?

Accepted Answer

We are a quiet country facility located on the edge of town.  There are no shops or stores within walking distance, which is a trade off from the traffic, noise, and decreased security associated with locations located near busy areas of town.

Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Spring Oak at Louisa. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Accepted Answer

We have a diverse community of residents ranging in age from 101 years old to 75.  We have daily activities including religious services, musicians, social gatherings, bingo, and dominos.  A movie theater is being set up for residents to enjoy movie night and a sunroom for family gatherings, reading, or just enjoying the warmth of the sun!

Staff receive in-service trainings on no less than a monthly basis but training also takes place as needed.

Accepted Answer

The facility is locked at all times and requires visitors to go through a screening process upon arrival.  While we are not Memory Care certified, we do have the Wanderguard system to ensure residents who are an elopement risk cannot exit the facility without alarms notifying staff and magnetically locking doors.  All employees go through a screening process in accordance with Virginia Department of Health regulations to ensure eligibility for employment in the facility.

What programs or activities does Spring Oak at Louisa offer to enrich residents' well-being?

Accepted Answer

We offer a variety of activities including recently hosting an Octoberfest with bonfire, smores, and hot apple cider, pumpkin decorating, and trick-or-treating for the great-grandchildren.  In Thanksgiving we are encouraging our families to take their loved one’s home but will be hosting a Thanksgiving Feast for residents.  In December we are taking residents wo the Town of Louisa’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and Christmas Parade.  The facility will be decorated for Christmas and we are making gift bags for everyone.  January will see the addition of a fine dining program.
