I visited this facility

Heartis Longview was nice, pretty, and clean. Everything was just really great. The staff was very nice, and knowledgeable, gave me a lot of information, and listened to my questions. The rooms are all private. They're more homey. Each room has a little private bathroom and a place for a bed, a chair, and a dresser. They have a movie room. They have a lot of activities. They have a physical therapist on staff. The food is really good. The sitting areas are nice. They have a pond, which is nice. I saw their food, and everybody said it was great.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother moved into Heartis Longview. They have been fantastic with her. Her apartment is very clean, and the food is very good. She's already putting on weight. She played bingo, and she attended a lecture on how to cook. They offer transportation. They've got a dentist coming in next week. They assist in medicine and bathing, and they also provide laundry services.

I visited this facility

Heartis Longview was a beautiful community and very welcoming. It had a beautiful pond in the back of it. The gathering areas were all pretty. The one thing we did not like about this place was they had these ramps that the people had to go up to get to their bedrooms. I thought it would be hard for our in-laws to have to constantly be walking up and down the ramps. The staff member said, "Well, a lot of the people had scooters." They shouldn't be expected to get a scooter to go up there. It's a good exercise for them, but at the same time, it's kind of grueling. It seemed like the facility was well taken care of. Their dining area looked very nice. The person that normally gives the tour was not there, and the staff didn't really seem to know as much as the main person should know.

Provider Response

Thank you for touring our community, Cheryl. Feedback like this help us create a better environment for our residents. We take pride in treating each resident with care while providing a comfortable atmosphere for residents to call home. Please reach out to us if you have any more questions or concerns.

I visited this facility

We have been to Heartis Longview TX to visit the memory care. My first impression of the place was that everything was pretty much just right there. As soon as you walk in the door, you see the patients, the hallway with the rooms, and how clean it is. It didn't smell, had a good smell, and I liked the friendliness as we walked in the door. The person who gave the tour, Mr. Bowe, was very friendly, very very helpful, very patient, and kind. It was a very good experience. I liked how they had people in the dining room watching the clients. We liked that they said they grew their own vegetables and things like that, so they had their hands on the yard, and my father is one who likes to be out in the yard.

I like the Heartis Longview. The facility is awesome. There's a cool balcony on the back and it's just nice. The setting was nice and calming. The rooms were clean too. I think the guy that does the cooking has been a cook for 15 years or something and he makes fancy meals for the seniors. I looked at their assisted living during my visit.

I visited this facility

I went to Heartis Longview. They were friendly, and they took their time just to talk with you. They probably developed more of a little bit of a relationship with us than the other place. They also brought in one of the nursing staff to talk to us. I liked the place and the facilities but assisted living would be hard for my dad because of the ramps they use. They don't have elevators or anything and they have two floors. They have a long walkway. It has a slight incline but he wouldn't be able to do that because he would feel like he's gonna fall. Even though it's a slide, it's just so long. You don't have that with the memory care, it's all straight, but for the assisted living I could see that being an issue.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I moved my mother to Heartis Longview 4 years ago. It was, in my opinion, the premium place an elderly person could go. For 4 years, I have seen it deteriorate. Not necessarily the facility but the overall management. The rooms were good, I liked them, they were good for an elderly person because they were very simple. There were 2 to 3 staff that I know, they were always cordial to me but as far as the overall staff, I can't say. The residents, I enjoy visiting with them. I did that for 3 years, got to visit, sit down and got to know many of them. I thoroughly enjoyed that. The meals were included, they had a salon that was staffed or kind of subcontracted to a private individual. It was okay, as far as the facility itself. My big thing was the fact that, over the course of a year that I did not get to visit with my mother, I don't know if small things such as her hair being washed on a weekly basis was ever done. The only thing I know was the fact that it was done twice a year and that's unacceptable. I don't know if her toenails were ever clipped over the course of a year and if you let your toenails grow, they will make your feet hurt when you walk. I don't know if my mother's sheets on her bed were ever changed for a year. I don't have good things to say about these folks. There are many things about the facility that I did not like after we got into it. I think they created more problems than they were ever worth. It's a 2-story facility and they have ramps between the floors so the residents either have to walk up the ramp or walk down it.

My parents moved into Heartis Longview. It's good, but it's very hard because of COVID. You can't get a good grasp of it, but I think overall it's gonna be OK. It's been a rough start because of not being able to get in there. The staff has been helpful overall. They keep in touch. The food is good so far, and they are eating in their rooms. They were quarantined for two weeks, and they haven't been able to get out yet. There were no extracurricular activities. They love watching the ducks and the geese because their wing looks over the pond. I haven't seen their room, but as far as I know it's a good view and they're managing it. They love everybody there, and my mom hasn't complained. It's a lot of money though.

THE BENEFITS OF HEARTIS LONGVIEW ASSISTED LIVING:

Residents spend their days any way they choose – relaxing or moving and grooving. Exploring the outdoors or staying in, enjoying their fully accessorized apartment or experiencing one of our luxurious common areas. Community living and dining rooms provide the perfect backdrops for savoring delicious and nutritious chef-inspired meals and enjoying engaging social activities.

With all the chores taken care of, residents have more time to meet neighbors and make new friends. And since pets are allowed at all Heartis communities, their furry friend will be right by their side (or in their lap).

THE FOUR FOUNDATIONS AND BENEFITS OF MEMORY CARE:

At Heartis Longview, our holistic approach helps establish an inclusive environment where every resident can thrive.

  • Social Roles
  • Residents with dementia still have a desire to fill social roles within their community. By giving them meaningful tasks like working the front desk, helping set tables for dinner, or assisting their neighbors, we’re empowering them to feel independent and purposeful.

  • Procedural Memory
  • This type of memory is created through “procedural learning” or repeating a routine action until all of the relevant neural systems work together to automatically produce the activity without the need for conscious control or attention.

  • Skills-Focused
  • Dementia affects existing memories but doesn’t prevent residents from forming new thought processes. So we use procedural memory and repetition to improve current skills and teach new ones.

A special Montessori Assessment Tool, created by the Center for Applied Research in Dementia, helps team members recognize remaining skills often missed by traditional healthcare assessments.

  • Progression
  • Working on projects or learning topics over a longer period of time leads to residents being more engaged and successful. The goal is to focus on their skills instead of their deficits so they can engage with their environment in a positive way and progress toward reaching their goals.
