I visited this facility

When I first walked in, it was really nice, but the administrative people were bad. I was promised that he could move in, and the next thing I know, this is not the place for him. You could never get the administrator to call you back. It was one excuse after another. I wouldn't have put my dog in there. It's very nice, but the way they are run, it is very deceiving. It's not about looks, it's about the care that the elderly person gets and how the administration works. Getting up with the administrator, I got tired of hearing the same story. "Our computer system was down," and then you leave messages and she never returns your calls. I was even working with a government organization that couldn't get up with the administrator. Good luck getting it with her. We didn't really get a dignified tour, she said this would be his room, and that was it. I thought it was clean. When you're calling, an administrator's report is to get back up with you to say yay or nay. She needs to answer her calls and return her calls back. She told us we had a room, that changed later. We haven't made a final decision; we just can't keep getting stringed along. The person during the tour was overall a bag of hot air. We had to scramble to find him a place because the hospital would not allow him to go back to the other facility. It looked nice. I've been in institutions that were better than that. I didn't get a homey feel. They need to replace the administrator and get somebody that can return calls, or get her an assistant.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in the memory care part of this facility. It smells of urine every time I go there. There is a tv but no cable or even a power cord.

My father is at Leland House. They seem to be a caring bunch of people. It's a smaller facility. The staff is very friendly. He's in the memory care locked down facility. There are two people to a room and they have their own bathroom and cable TV in their rooms. The menu looks good. They have a little courtyard they can go out to. The pricing is reasonable.

Steer clear until substantial and necessary changes are made here and in our state's oversight of the care and provision given to our aging loved ones. Proper and respectful care of our elderly absolutely should be primary to our communities and our community leaders.

This place has overcome many obstacles. The renovations and new staff are welcoming & caring. They are moving in more seniors that are more age appropriate for an Assisted living. It has a new Activities Director that has new activities & dementia appropriate activities. The rooms are spacious & the new furniture is beautiful. I would recommend you take a tour and decide for yourseld before you read the reviews.

I visited this facility

I visit this facility several days out of the month. I am excited about the renovations that are being made, and the up to date furniture. The atmosphere is welcoming and every resident I come in contacts is happy and full of personality. Their weekend receptionist is very much appreciated. I love walking up to the door and having it opened without a wait and her smile greeting me...every staff member I have come in contact with were pleasant and helpful. I would recommend this facility to my family and friends.

I visited this facility

This is the place you see in horror movies. I would not place anyone I loved here unless I had minus zero other choices. It was recommended by another facility when they couldn't take my dad. I visited and was appalled by the smell of mold, the zombie-state(behind dementia — guessing heavily medicated?) quality of most of the residents, many of whom looked bruised, partially clothed, dirty and ill-cared for. A staff member did walk me through and all I could think was I was afraid for my safety – how would my poor, nearly helpless dad feel? Staff members "shooshing " each other to be quiet as I walked through — Seemed like they were being antagonistic with many residents. Meridian and their board that operates this place should have to stay here themselves — guessing things might change? I felt very sorry for all there. One of the most depressing and decrepit I've seen - and my dad has been in four places.

Yes, there is still an odor when you enter. If and when you can enter as they do not always have someone to unlock the door. I have seen residents waiting to get back in from their walk on a cold windy day for 15-20 minutes with me. They do not keep children informed of their parents care. I visit weekly & didn't find out for 4 days later that they had taken mom for minor surgery on her eye even though I had notified them that I wanted to take her to all her dr appts. Bad service & bad Director who never returns your calls!

I visited this facility

I would say it was a fairly good experience. I was visiting my grandpa and it was first visit there. The facility seemed very warm and open--and looked as though it had many amenities for the residents there to enjoy/do. The staff there was helpful and most of them seemed as though they liked what they did (you have some instances where you go to places like that and it will seem as though staff is 'just there' w/ a cold/indifferent disposition). The only thing I would say could have been a negative, I suppose would have been that somewhat stale smell of urine in some areas, like in the sitting area where I guess everyone watches TV (and where guest/family can sit w/ their loved ones their visiting, as is where we were). It wasn't extremely strong or anything, it was faint, but it was still a slightly off-putting when I did catch a whiff of it.
