I visited Desert Springs Senior Living. Judy gave us the tour. There was one unit that she showed us with not a full kitchen, but enough to feel like you could fix your coffee, you could use your microwave, and you could put things in the refrigerator, just a wall of that without it being a full kitchen and a place to sit right outside your living room. I liked the layout and it had a very deep closet for storage. It's very nice. The staff was super nice, very friendly, came in and said, hello, how are you, that kind of thing, even actually the residents, because some of the places they would show us had residents in them so that we got some feedback from them also. It's very nice. That's our top choice, but my husband hasn't had an opportunity to go with me yet to even review it. I was able to view people eating and enjoying the company and the food. Everything looked just fine. I didn't get the impression it was new. It wasn't like the other one, which was brand new. It was very friendly.

My mom has been in Desert Springs Senior Living. She likes it. She has a studio. It's nice and it's a pretty good size. They have the usual amenities like the activities, the cafeteria, and they do outings once a week. There's always something going on every day. There are probably at least four activities during the day. The food is pretty good. The upkeep is great. The staff is great, too.

Desert Springs Senior Living is an older facility, but very well maintained. As the residents move out, they are redoing flooring and repainting every unit. The community fee and the monthly rent are very affordable. They offer RNs on staff. They are partnered with Anthem Blue Cross for Medicare Extension Care, which brings doctors into the facility to see the residents, instead of the residents having to go out. They also have prescription delivery and shuttle availability to go anywhere. They took very good care of the residents I saw, and they were very polite, too. It is an age in place facility. If my father needs more care as he ages, it can be added on. Their menu and their dining area are excellent. It is restaurant style dining. There is a limited menu with daily specials, which for my father looked very promising. There are two RNs on-staff at any given time, and the director of the facility is an RN. It is why we're leaning that way.

Desert Springs Senior Living was behind a commercial district and a residential neighborhood that had graffiti and houses that were not kept up. So, I didn't like the neighborhood, but if that same facility was in a different location, I might feel different. The apartments looked good. They were more affordable. The gentleman who gave me a tour was very pleasant and helpful. I also met the chef, and he was very pleasant and helpful. There was no pool though. Some places with the same pricing had pools. So, that place just wasn't for me.

My friend has moved into Desert Springs Senior Living. It worked out well and he's very happy there, and the staff is great. We can't get a hold of the director too often. That was one problem we had, but once we got there, everything worked out. We had several meals with him, and the food was great. They still had a stove in there that we had to get out. They had a refrigerator that we had to get out of. The toilet didn't work, and we had to get that fixed. And then the toilet seat didn't work either, and we had to have lights put up. They weren't quite ready for us, I don't think. But when my friend moved in, everything was taken care of. We moved the furniture in on Monday and then he moved in on Wednesday night. Once they took care of everything, it was great. I just don't think they were quite ready for us. They had everything there. They're really good. My friend loves it, and that's all we cared about. He has met a lot of other veterans. Some were as old as him, so he was happy about that. They have common spaces. They have a library which he loves. They have games and activities. They have a poker game and pinnacle club. They have a lot of little club things there that are interesting for him. They have an outdoor area. I like the way they serve the food. I like that if you may not want the special, you could pick off a menu. It's restaurant style. They have snacks 24/7. I like that also. That was nice.

Desert Springs Senior Living was the worst one I've been to. I would not consider that place at all, it's too old and the rooms are old. Generally, it's in a good area, but not what I'm looking for. I drive my own car and they don't have any undercover parking, which is one thing I am looking for. I won't park out in the sun, that just ruins the car especially here in the hot desert. All the bathroom fixtures look dated, they look like they're from the '60s and '70s, and the shower comes up to my nose. They said they would raise it, but I said that's not gonna work. Aside from independent living, they also have assisted living in a different area.
