I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been here at Twin Oaks Assisted Living for a month now. The food here is good. It is nothing fancy. It is just like the stuff you eat at home, but it is better than average. I have reservations about the CNAs, but some things you have to live with. They provided the refrigerator, but the oven is non-functional. There is no microwave, so you can't reheat your leftovers. They hand out snacks. It's an adequate place and there's plenty of room for improvement. They do not have a lot of activities here. Most of the residents here are on walkers and wheelchairs. When I moved in, they said I'd have a bedframe. But until now, my bed is still a mattress on the floor. They're shorthanded. They have a maintenance guy who doesn't fix things.

I visited this facility

Twin Oaks Assisted Living was pleasant. It didn't smell at all. It looked like the nurses were on top of everything and they got the job done. The apartments were nice and the staff was also nice. They play bingo, cards, and other games. They have a library, too.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom moved in a few weeks ago into Twin Oaks Assisted Living. She was familiar with them, and so she became interested in seeing about their assisted living. They showed her an apartment there that they had available. She looked at it and really, really liked it. She decided that it was time. She was at a point she needed to sell her home, and her doctor said she could not continue living there alone. She's 96 years old and has congestive heart failure. Since she has moved in there, she is doing pretty well. She has the regular care there of the nurse. Also they have just brought in a Catholic hospice care for additional help for her, so she's very pleased and very comfortable there. It was close to her home that she had. She's close to family there. She's close to my brother and his wife. It's convenient for her to continue seeing family. Her doctors, both her cardiologists, and her primary care physician are just a couple of blocks down from Twin Oaks. Their staff are very quick to respond to her if she needs help or assistance. They provide her medications. They help bathe her. If she needs help with dressing, they do that too. They also give her encouragement to walk with her walker up to the lunchroom to join other ladies, get acquainted, and meet new friends. They just encourage her in every way and are there to help, do away with her worry, and any discomfort that she might have. They're just very, very good with her. Food looks delicious. They can either feed her or take the meals to her room for her to eat there, if she feels like she's not able to walk all the way to the cafeteria. If she does feel like walking, they can either push her in a little wheelchair or just be close by her side when she walks with the walker to the cafe. She is getting such excellent care and assistance on every level. They keep a very close eye on her. They're just able to really take great care of her.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is a resident of Twin Oaks Assisted Living for two weeks now. It's been excellent. The meals are great. There is a lot of staff that interact with the residents. They keep track of the medications. The director is excellent. They make sure that the residents' needs are met. His room is very comfortable. There are a lot of windows, which is nice because it is not dark. It's very light and very bright inside. It's got a little kitchenette, even though they don't cook because they have meals. They have a microwave, a cable TV, and a landline if they want a phone. It's very spacious. It also has a large bathroom, and that to me is a big plus. His room is more like a studio apartment, but they have some that have separate bedrooms. We've only been there for two weeks, but what I've noticed, they have an art person that comes in and they do some kind of art activities. My husband has not participated in any of these yet, but then they have people that come in and talk about anything. There was a colonel there, so he spoke about his military background, which is nice. They have three different outside gardens, and they have an exercise room. It's not a big exercise thing, but they have maybe two or three machines to exercise the legs and stuff. They have a library, not large, but it is enough, which is nice. They have hairdressing, and in fact, he got his hair cut there. Another nice feature that they have is they have a little area with coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and some fruits. It is in one little area all day whenever you wanted it, which is what they needed, which is very nice, too. They have a couple of fireplaces because older people seem to get cold a lot, so it is nice, too. The prices are all comparable in the area because we've checked several of them and they're all about the same. To someone else that's fine, but it was my highest reach.

I visited this facility

Twin Oaks was a nice and clean facility. The staff knew all the patients by their first name. The staff who showed me around was very nice. My mom liked this place and it's what she can afford but she is not yet ready for these kinds of facilities.
