When we were looking for a facility for our mother, Aster Place was recommended to us. We were put in contact with Consetta. She was so helpful and caring to our family at a difficult time. We would recommend Aster Place for you or your loved ones.

We will be moving into Aster Place. The rooms were nice-sized. They also gave us the option of getting two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which was one of the things we were actually looking for. The place was very clean. The people were outstanding. I talked to some residents, and they seemed to be really enjoying the establishment. The personnel were great. I know they do all the transportation to the doctors, which was a good selling point. They have a physical therapy-type area.

I think we're going with Aster Place for mom. The facility was beautiful, bright, and happy. Many activities were going on while we toured it. The staff was phenomenal. They were just wonderful. They have a lot of different sizes of rooms to choose from. They had many common spaces and they could hold a few people up to a large group of people. The only staff we met was the office staff that did the tour and talked about pricing. I didn't have any interaction with the staff, the nurses, the care aides, or any of those. There were two people we dealt with, and they were both wonderful. The menu had a great variety, and the different options they offer were unbelievable.

We went to Aster Place. My mom's biggest complaint was that the facility was so big and the rooms were so tiny. We saw no residents at all, and she wondered about that. We really just didn't see anything. It just was great big hallways and a small room. She just was not impressed at all. The staff during the tour, Olivia, was wonderful. It was clean and neat. There was nothing about that facility that I liked, other than Olivia. I'm sure it's a fine place. We just weren't impressed with it personally. I liked that it was right next to my place of employment. I could have walked back and forth, and it was convenient for me. The building itself, to me, didn't have any warmth to it. The atmosphere just was not as warm as the other places that we visited.

Aster Place was a large community with lots of amenities. The staff that I dealt with was great to work with. Overall, it was a very nice facility. They had a fitness center, a theater room, laundry facilities, a recreational center, a large dining hall, a small courtyard, a nice little library, and a lounge area.

My mom was in Aster Place. The overall experience was very good. Her room was very nice; she was in a studio. The restaurant was wonderful. It's like a full-service restaurant. You order off a menu and then they come and serve it. I've tried their food, and it was very good. There were quite a few selections at every meal. The common areas were very nice. We had a small get-together with our family there with her, and that was accommodated very nicely as well. There were a lot of activities, but she was unable to participate in any of them. They had an exercise room with a trainer during the days there. She didn't get to use that as well though. She wasn't there very long. The staff was very pleasant and very good. I'm not sure what the going rate is as far as different places, but it was the right place for us.

I found Aster Place to be a tremendous value. It's far less expensive, and if I was going to be in a position where I could move my dad, Aster Place would be the place that I would go out of the places that I went to. I would be very comfortable moving my father into that facility. The staff were responsive to questions. They showed flexibility and interest in what would be the best fit for my dad. They had everything that I would want to see. They didn't have the pool and some of the things the other ones did, but they had space and facilities that would be dedicated to exercising.

We liked Aster Place for my aunt because they had more to offer and more options. The layout was great. They had the garden home, independent living, and assisted living. They were all separated. There was plenty of room in each of the small apartments for the assisted living and the garden home. They were all spacious. Everything was kind of separated, and we liked it that way. They had activities. They offered meals. You could purchase 30 meals for a certain amount of money for the month. It could be breakfast, lunch, or supper. They could purchase more if they wanted to and eat in the dining room. The dining room was very nice. I didn't see the food, but I'm sure it would be all right. In the rooms and their little apartments as well, they could cook for themselves. The staff was very customer service oriented, very friendly, and very helpful. We even met some of the residents. They were very friendly, helpful, and willing to tell us whatever we asked. The also were willing to show us their apartments. They have a good community and are closeknit. They go out and do things together. They may go out for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. They all get together and go. They have activities where they go shopping. They can take them to get their hair done and doctors' appointments. They have a lot of amenities like that for them to do. Everything was clean and organized.

Aster Place was horrible. They do not know how to care for clients with memory care problems. They could not adequately ensure that my mother took her medication. They did not bathe her. I found her in a bed with no sheets, and her clothes were locked in a closet. Most of them were dirty and urine stained. They had not washed her hair in over two weeks. She had a UTI, and they had not been giving her her medication. They had me come and get her to take her for a psych evaluation at 12:00 at night because she was a danger to herself and others, but she was sound asleep. The facility itself is beautiful. They would not allow anybody in there because they're on COVID lockdown. I did not know when I put her in there that they had just opened their memory care unit. Subsequently, I asked the administrator how much training their people had. They only have 4 hours of training. I would definitely not recommend it to anybody from memory care. They may be fine for assisted living, but I would not put anybody that I cared about in Astor Place. They were the only choice I had because there were no other memory care beds available in Lafayette.

I visited Aster Place, it was very good. The staff was personable, they seem to care about the residents. They had puzzles, games, and cards, and we saw a number of residents doing those things there. They have a salon, they have some books, a couple of different patios that the residents can go out on, and a couple of gathering places.

My aunt has signed in for Aster Place. It was clean. They were excited that they had a new resident that was interested in moving in. The rooms were clean and spacious. They seemed to have the activities that my aunt was interested in. They have a great exercise area, a little library, and activities that will help her with socialization. They have a variety of rooms. They have studios, large studios, deluxe studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and garden homes. The staff who accommodated us were inviting and encouraging.

When it's time for my mother-in-law to move, she'll be going to Aster Place. That's what we have picked out of the few we looked at. The facility was just very nice. We already know one of the residents there as well, so that was helpful in making that decision. It's an old family friend, so it was kind of nice. The facility was just beautiful, and the activities were really nice. The facilities were very beautiful, and they were decorated nicely. They had really good food options. The menu was nice. The activity areas and the common areas were very nice. The staff did a really good job with the tour and explaining things. We just really like it.

We visited Aster Place. We toured it for independent living. We visited three different units: Two that was on a cross street, and one that was actually in the Aster Place facility. Two were older builds and one was a new build. We felt like the new build was a little bit cheap. The older build seemed to be a little bit built nicer and there wasn't anything wrong with that. My husband is a large man, and I just felt like that he might not have enough room in them for like a bigger chair or bigger table, things like that. They were combined with another level of care. You could graduate and go to another level. The two that were separate were together in one continuous building like duplexes, but they were one continuous thing. They had lots of amenities and lots of activities. We didn't think anything was wrong with that. One of the units had a bathtub, and we felt like that was a strange thing to have in a unit that was geared for people that were elderly. We've eaten meals there, and they were very good. We know someone that lives there. They have an apartment and a car, but they eat their meals there and things like that. We were pretty much impressed with the price. It was less than what we thought it might be.

I did a tour of Aster Place in Lafayette; I like them, but my mom needed a higher level of care than what they provided. Their rooms were so nice. They have a church that comes in and does hymnal songs or gospel songs once a week. They also have a beautiful gazebo and garden, and the rooms have a window that looks out onto them. They have activities daily that are based on senior developmental needs. The staff was very attentive. I was able to watch an activity with the residents. The staff member was reading this story, and then afterward she was serving dessert to them. Then another staff member, later on, I was able to watch her interact with one of the residents, and it was so sweet.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We chose Aster Place because of the facility, condition, and offering as far as care, dining facilities, and so on. Maintenance has been responsive. Living space is fine, new utilities, new appliances. The staff has all been very responsive to my request and needs, very accommodating, very personable, and professional. I'm using the dining facility and I am preparing food as well. I go three times a week to the fitness center where there's a personnel on-staff trained to work with people with Parkinson's. Facilities like this are more expensive than they should be. I suppose if it was assisted living it would be a different story, but independent living, it seems a bit pricy for our individual needs.

I toured Aster Place and it's a little newer place. It seems a little larger too and some units had a garage. They also have a fitness center that not all the other facilities have. They were very welcoming and everyone was very pleasant. You walked past people in the hallway and they all spoke to you. It was a very friendly place.

We visited Aster Place. It was a very nice, great place. They also had a memory care unit. They start out with assisted living and analyze whether the client needs a different type of care. The staff was very nice. We had a good tour and the staff answered all our questions. They have everything. They have a chef and you can eat anytime of the day you want. They also have a movie theater, a bistro, a really nice cafeteria, and they have an exercise gym.

We visited Aster Place and it was wonderful. We liked the place that we saw, the one that we're going to move into. The lady we dealt with was very nice and very knowledgeable. The menu looked good. What we saw was very nice and clean. We saw the room where we had our meeting, and then the lobby and the place that we are going to get. The room was okay; it was a 2-bedroom, 2-bathrooms. I know they have a lot of extracurricular stuff to do.

So far, I'm happy with Aster Place. My mother seems happy with the staff. There's plenty of room, and she's comfortable with everything that we've brought in. They have quite a bit of amenities, but she's still under quarantine because she just moved in. The meals are OK. She's not thrilled about it at this point, but everything is being delivered to her room, and she can't go to the cafeteria.

We went to Aster Place. The tour went well, and they had covid restrictions in place. They have covid restrictions in the dining room, they're now like, bringing patients back in where they're dining together some what, and doing some activities still. She gave us lots of information on the other facilities as well, she gave us information on how to do Medicaid waiver on other facilities in the Lafayette area also.

Aster Place was very nice, but we want a place where eventually my mother could go on Medicaid if she has to. They didn't take me into any rooms, they just showed me sketches of them instead. The dining area was very nice. It was very clean and very neat. The place was impressive, but it wasn't the right place for my mom. At the time, the residents were just sitting there watching TV, so I don't know what kind of care they're getting.

The nurses aids are over worked and have a hard time keeping up. This reduces the care for those who need it most. If you want a true account of what goes on you need to speak to the residents who live there. I'm sure it's hard to keep staff up to full strength due to the demand of needing people nation wide. However this is no excuse for residents to have needed medication not given to them in a timely manner. $5,000.00 (approximate) is a lot of money. Per month.

Provider Response

Since the 2-star review from August 2017, there has been a change in leadership at Aster Place. The community takes each concern it receives seriously and has taken all measures to address these concerns. According to the Indiana State Regulations for Residential Care Facilities, “A minimum of one wake person, with current CPR and first aid certificates, shall be on site at all times. If fifty (50) or more residents of the facility regularly receive residential nursing services or administration of medication, or both, at least one (1) nursing staff person shall be on site at all times. Residential facilities with over one hundred (100) residents regularly receiving residential nursing services or administration of medication, or both, shall have at least one (1) additional nursing staff person awake on duty at all times for every additional fifty (50) residents. Aster Place staffs in accordance and above state guidelines with an average of one nursing staff per every 12 residents. Aster Place conducted a brief survey with a sampling of (10) residents. These residents had no concerns with the staffing pattern and felt that they received adequate care and medications were dispensed in a timely manner. Please find below so direct quotes from residents during the survey: “The nursing staff always does a great job and I never have concerns. They are always kind and ensure that they bring me my medications on time.” “The staff here do everything for me. I believe that there are enough staff here to meet all of my needs. I have never not received my medications.” Aster Place continues to encourage resident and family feedback and has partnered with NRC to collect on going data for current residents, admissions, and resident who no longer reside at the community.

I have not moved to Aster Place yet, but the people were very friendly. I ate lunch there, and the food was delicious. The servers were nice. The residents were very positive about everything and very nice. Everything looked so clean and nice. It looked like a nice place to live. I probably would not participate in most of the activities, but I do a lot of cross stitching. I liked that they had a table with puzzles. They were very pet friendly, and I have three cats. They had bingo, a theater, and a nice library.

My parents are about to move into Aster Place in a couple of weeks. It is a very nice place, and everyone there is really nice and welcoming. They try to make you feel at home, and they have just gone out of their way to do whatever they needed to make mom and dad feel like they are going to be comfortable there. The residents seem to be happy and excited any time I’ve ever been in there to visit. We’ve just gotten a really good positive feedback. I have eaten there several times, and the food is fantastic. They’ve got a really nice facility. It is very clean, it smells fresh and clean, and the whole time I’ve been in there, I have never once smelled a sense of odor anywhere in it. Mom and dad are getting a room that has an outside entrance to it, so if they want to go outside they can. The only problem that I see in terms of outside activity is that right outside their front door, there is only like a 4 x 4 square piece of concrete, and if they want to put a chair or something out there, then there is no way to walk to a sidewalk from out there. So they’ve got an outside exit, but they both have walkers, so you can’t walk out to an outside sidewalk. And I saw that in all the places that I went to, it wasn’t just Aster Place. The other thing too is that if you are in an outside area, every place where there are chairs sitting outside is rocks and stuff. It makes it difficult for anyone who needs a little bit of assistance walking and kind of makes it dangerous. Again, that was not just Aster Place; every place was like that. The places for people to walk outside, there just wasn’t a really safe place for them to go. I would recommend it, and I have already.

We placed my mother-in-law at Aster Place because they provide 24-hour nursing care. The people were absolutely phenomenal. The food is like fine dining; they sit down in linens. They have very good food. It’s very upper class, and you have to have money to live there. They keep her busy, and she is very happy. She loves to play bingo and Uker. Overall, they have a lot of activities offered. I would highly recommend them to others.

We're going to place my father in Aster Place. They have both independent and assisted living. I thought the staff was very competent, and they seem to be caring. The director of nursing was very helpful. They had a lot of structured activities, and there were a lot of great, positive things about them. They seemed to excel. They had a support group for dementia. Their prices were very good. They didn't have several tiers of pricing. They also offered to help pay for our expenses of moving my father from Pennsylvania to Indiana. They did not allow pets in the memory care unit.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My friend moved into Aster Place. The two big considerations were that it met her budget, and she wanted to bring her dogs. It was nice, clean, and very new. She has an independent little apartment off to the side of the main building, and she walks across the street to eat. She didn't want to go inside the big building nor be in a nursing home type environment. The staff is very nice. The day we moved in, they were there several times making sure everything was OK. They knew that she couldn't see well, so they made adjustments and did a lot of things that weren't asked of them. She told me she is going to some mild exercises. They have a beauty shop and a little room with a popcorn maker and movies. It's new, and they're going to be housing people that need the type of facility like a nursing home.
