Park Village Pines is fairly priced and has a full facility. They have single occupancy rooms and multiple recreational activities. It's kind of like a middle class home. The rooms have a shower and full bathroom. They offer hair care, foot care and they have nurses on duty. They have a lot of activities every day, like exercise, games, and church. They have a couple private dining rooms and full meals. The people who live there are happy. The facilities are clean.

My wife was admitted to Oakview Terrace (Specialized Care), a unit of Park Village Pines, and within eight weeks we were subjected to a monthly cost increase of 26% due to the addition of a one-on-one caregiver of two hours per day. This two hours per day was only 13% of a 16 hour day (not counting sleep hours) or 8% of a 24 hour day. To do otherwise, we were "threatened" with a 30 day eviction notice or a change in Patient Advocate status (which caused estrangement problems within the family). This "business model" borders on a "bait and switch" tactic, although her medical status has not changed substantially since being admitted. In addition there have been instances of my wife waiting for over one hour, as reported by her, for a needed trip to the bathroom, as she is a total invalid (left arm and leg totally immobile due to a stroke). Several of the aides, including the extra one-on-one caregivers, are not CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certified/qualified. In one instance, her call light cord was cut from attachment to her bed rail; this was ostensibly done because it was stated that it was not allowed by Michigan rules (even though a state inspector had witnessed it approximately three months earlier). As a replacement, and witnessed by her husband, the cord was attached to an awkward and large stuffed bear. The food quality is only average, being surpassed by previous, lower-cost, facilities in which my wife had previously been a patient (one in Kentucky and one in Michigan, which had discharged her due to inability to care for her on assisted living basis). On the plus side, the facilities are spacious and clean.

We put my father-in-law at Park Village Pines and the only reason we picked it was because it's closer to our house. The care is very good. His room is an adequate size, clean, and very nice. The food seems to be fairly nice. The staff is very caring and polite. He was doing puzzles the other day, they had a sing-along and he won a prize at a game night. They also have excursions where they take them out to various places. They seem to have plenty of activities.

Park Village Pines has been great. The care exceptional and we know as we started other places. Also they are not in business to make other people money. The fees payed go to actual care of elderly. Quite a different concept than other continuum's of care. We found fees reasonable considering this is 24 hour care, but then they are not trying to make a profit just provide a much needed service. Activities abound here and residents have so many opportunities to be as active as they wish. You will never see a resident in distress as there are staff everywhere to assist. I think the best example I saw was administrators rolling up their sleeves and thinking nothing of it. PVP gets the whole teamwork thing, it takes a village. I have never seen a more welcoming facility, these people REALLY care about their residents.

Park Village Pines was recommended by our pastor. It looked like it had everything that we needed. Price wise, it was more than what we could afford. They had activities like big time wrestling. They could put on their big time wresting suit and wrestle if they wanted to. They could jog around the block or whatever they wanted to do. They had a shuttle bus. The staff was very friendly. They took the time to sit down with us to answer our questions and gave us the tour. They were very nice.

My mother hesitated to move to an assisted living facility. After one month she has settled into her apartment. She enjoys interacting with the staff and taking field trips. Several times she has stated to me that moving to Park Village Pines was a good choice.
