I visited this facility

I think Brookdale Champions is an older facility, and it looks like it needs some work. It hasn't been kept up as much as it could have been. They showed me a private room. It had a little kitchenette. I believe they had lots of activities there. They showed me a calendar with lots of things going on. I've just met a couple of staff, and they were nice, friendly, and welcoming.

Provider Response

We appreciate you taking the time to visit and are sorry to hear you feel this way. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care and we will share your feedback with our management team.

Brookdale Champions was on top of our list. It was clean. The staff was friendly, too. They talked about activities, housekeeping, meal selections, and things like that. They have a beauty salon, courtyards, and areas that you can rent for private parties and all that stuff. The staff was very attentive. She asked questions. The tour was good. She went over everything. She was honest about their pricing and what they had available. Everything was upfront.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister moved into Brookdale Champions. They have some charges that I'm complaining about. They are charging me for a service, which they have never done. I don't have any complaints about the staff. They are very helpful and nice people. My sister's room is small. It's not really big, and I'm not really satisfied; but right now, that's what we've got. My sister can eat some of the food, but some of it she can't. I have to bring our own food to her. My wife says the food tastes terrible. They have bingo and other activities. The surroundings are OK.

I visited this facility

I went to Brookdale Champions. It's a little bit older facility, but it's very nice. They definitely have a nice layout of isolating the residents together to make it enjoyable for them. They have different locations, so that they can continue to do things that they used to do (especially those pretending that they were on a computer or mailing stuff). It was very nice. Although it was a Saturday, I could see them interacting and doing some type of activity together with the staff. There was definitely some interaction going on. The rooms seem to be adequate in size and shape, and it seemed appropriate.

I chose Brookdale champions for my sister because of the location, the vicinity of the hospitals and clinics, and just the general area. The facility was very nice, clean and all of the employees there were so welcoming and so friendly. I also like the rooms and just the feel of things there. We are choosing it because we have the option of assisted living and if my sister's situation progresses, we'd also be in the same location if memory care would be needed for her. During the tour, we visited assisted living. We had lunch there and the food was delicious. They had bingo and some other games too.

I took a tour of Brookdale Champions for my mother, and it had a good feeling. I like the activities director, and the other people there. The rooms were of good size, and bright with lots of sunlight. I just noticed the menu and it seemed good, and it smelled good. They have physical therapy, a pool table, they have a courtyard, and nice grounds, that are near a walking path. They also have bingo.

I visited this facility

We went to Brookdale Champions yesterday, and took a tour. It was a very good visit. We're looking at studios, so we thought we'll just look at two studios; two different sizes. I don't call it spacious, but it's sufficient for what she needs. I thought everything looked good. The facility was very, very clean, well-taken care of, and well maintained.

My mother-in-law is at Brookdale Champions and loving it. It is very homey and very comfortable. She really likes it. The staff members have been wonderful, helped us out, and made some suggestions. It is good to work with them. My mother-in-law loves all the activities and participates quite a bit. She donated her piano and plays it a lot up there. She is just loving it.

My MIL is there. She is 95 and started out in the assisted living section but her mind went and we had to move her into the memory care area. Every time we have visited (several times a week), the staff has been very supportive and friendly. We have not encountered a single negative experience. My wife and I think this place is great.

Brookdale Champions was very clean. Everybody was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I toured the whole facility. They showed me a room, told us about the different activities, and offered coffee and tea. We went to the activity room where they showed me a list of the daily events.

Brookdale Champions is amazing, caring, and compassionate. The food is amazing; the chef is awesome. Location was a big play in where I chose. As soon as I walked in there, the staff was undeniably amazing, and they have maintained that. My parent has been there almost 2 months.

My mom stayed at Brookdale Champions assisted living for about three or four months until she regained her mobility and strength in their physical therapy program. It's a beautiful facility in a beautiful part of town and very clean. The staff was very courteous and friendly. If anybody needs assisted living, it's a very good choice.

Brookdale Champions was the one I really liked. It was a little plusher than the one my brother-in-law is actually in; it was prettier. They were really friendly, it looked really nice, and they had a lot of stuff going on too. They had a lot of plans and things for them. The rooms were smaller than what he has now, but it would have been sufficient, and they had just the single room -- the efficiency -- versus the two rooms. If it hadn't been farther, I would have gone with this one because it was prettier. I liked what they had; they had a little breakfast area set up where they could go out and have coffee and pastry and stuff every morning. They had like a big coffee machine and all that set up to where they could go and eat at any time of the day. It was a separate room, and I thought it was unique, and then they serve ice-cream and stuff like that in the evening there. Their restaurant itself had tablecloths on the table, and it looked really pretty. We were invited to come and eat several times, but we didn't make it up there. It was really clean, they were really friendly, and the personnel were really efficient in showing us what all they could do. It was just a little nicer, and I liked the café; it was a little swankier.

I am impressed with Brookdale. The room I chose for my mother is spacious enough. The grounds are beautifully set. I have had one meal there, and I enjoyed it. My mother does not particularly enjoy that; she complains about the food. She likes the breakfast for the most part, but not the other meals. They have bingo, exercise class and bible studies. They have special events, and they have a theme for the month. They have lectures. They have outings. They go out to eat once a month. They have a lot things. She does not participate in most of it, but to me there are a number of options. It is in an excellent neighborhood. It is close to a hospital and a mall. The staff seems to be adequate right now.

I would rate the facility/staff/Executive Director at Brookdale Place Champions top notch.. My Mom was a resident there when she passed away. I can honestly say that she received extremely excellent care during her stay there. The staff was friendly and genuinely cared about my Mom. The facility is extremely well organized and is led by one of the best Executive Directors I have ever known. My Mom has been in several facilities over the past 7 years and I can tell you this is the best one she has ever been in, bar none. Toward the end of my Mom’s life, the staff took time to not only care for my Mom, but to offer comforting words to me and my family. I don’t think people take the time often enough to compliment and praise people for outstanding service. The team at Brookdale Place Champions most certainly deserves it! The facility is well-organized and beautifully decorated. The grounds are well-manicured and give the facility a most aesthetic touch. The staff at Brookdale Place Champions are indeed Champions!

My mother lived her for almost 2yrs.They were very nice and caring when she first moved in, eventually she had to be moved to the memory care side. I don't feel they were as caring or compassionate on the memory care side.Trying to get answers to questions was almost impossible.Very exspensive. All they were worried about was getting their money. Sometimes even rude when I would call to ask a question. Was glad to get mom out of there. Be careful if you are considering this place!!

I really liked The Terrace at Champions when I visited the place. The lady that showed me around was excellent. The only problem is that it's a large facility with a hospital-like environment and it didn't save me any money and it's a bit far from home. If I hadn't found a place, I might have gone there.

I found the facility to be quite nice, though the staff tended to be short- not exactly rude, but not welcoming or kind, either. The food provided was adequate, and the restrooms were extremely clean. My grandmother has a handful of friends here, though she says the staff plays favorites. She really, really appreciates having so many facilities onsite, as being able to get to church was a big concern of hers. The landscaping is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious.

I visited this facility

We went to visit The Terrace - Champions assisted living facility while checking out places for our aunt. The grounds appeared very well tended, with nicely manicured lawns and shrubbery. The interior foyer was fresh and bright with very nice decorations and furniture. The staff was immediately friendly and accommodating, despite the fact that we did not have an appointment. The grounds looked like a nice place for seniors to walk around safely and freely daily. There was also ample space to enjoy parties, picnics and for private family gatherings. All of the interior rooms had bright natural light and fresh air. Rooms were decorated and furnished beautifully with soothing color schemes. The spacious activity rooms offered comfortable furniture where seniors could socialize, craft, play games, watch films and TV. They seemed to be able to participate in a variety of stimulating activities, including tending the garden. The facility can also handle all ambulation levels. The private spaces all had ample space in very nicely decorated and furnished surroundings. Each had a great deal of natural light and fresh air. The dining room was spacious, bright and cheery. The food smelled and looked appetizing. The many menus had nutritious foods for all diet types. They also offer healthy snacks throughout the day evening, as well as whenever requested. Seniors use the exercise room any time and can also safely go on daily walks around the grounds. Yoga and aerobics classes are offered daily. The residents also go to many of Houston's cultural events, visit art galleries and museums, and enjoy the many casual and fine dining establishments available. It was clear that the residents were very content in this nicely designed living environment, with plenty considerate and caring staff.
