I visited this facility

I toured The Plaza at Punchbowl. It was very cordial. Everybody was smiling and everybody was helpful. They answered all the questions or anticipated questions. However, they're undergoing extensive renovations. They're redoing everything inside and outside. When it's finished, it'll be even nicer. It's a 20-year-old facility. We went to see almost every part of it that they could except for the renovation areas. The rooms were bigger even for the companion room. They have them designed nicely. The studio types have the walls coming out, so even though there are no doors, you don't see each other when you're in bed. They have so many common areas, and they're nice.

I visited this facility

I toured The Plaza at Punchbowl. It looked pretty good. The people seemed nice. I met with the person who went over the facilities with me and things like that. He was good. He was very informative. The activities sounded pretty good. Depending on whether they want to participate or not, at least they have options. It was also clean and up-to-date.

I visited this facility

I had an in-person tour of The Plaza at Punchbowl. All the residents there seemed and looked really happy. They were happy like it was their home. They were active in doing activities. They had games, exercises, a beauty salon, and a physical therapy room. They showed us a private room and a shared room. They had a big lobby, a big sitting room, a dining room, and an exercise activity room. They were all on the first floor. The person who showed us around was the administrator. She was very impressive because she knew everyone's name. She introduced us to everyone who walked by us and introduced them by name. The facility was very clean. It seemed like a very nice and comfortable place to live.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is in respite care at The Plaza at Punchbowl. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. They were very friendly. It seems like the staff is quite attentive. My husband has a really nice accommodation. Things seem calm there. He has found a friend and seems comfortable. He is always neat when I see him. He has hooked up with one particular guy. The few times I've been there to visit, he's always with him. They seem to enjoy each other and that makes us feel, of course, happy that he is not alone. The family tries to consistently visit, so it actually ends up being daily. From all the comments that I've had from other family members, they haven't really said anything that they were maybe disappointed with. I take that as satisfaction with what's going on there. They give you a choice of different kinds of foods for each meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It seems satisfactory. They have different kinds of activities. They have musicians that come in. They have various kind of games, trivia, bingo, and exercise; all these things are daily. When I first went to just view the place, I observed that it seemed typical, like you do the sit-down chair exercises. The family wishes maybe that there were more activities instead of just TV, but I understand. You can't be having something every single moment; there are downtimes. For what it is right now, I think it's adequate. I get a daily report (which is very comforting) on whether he attended activities. They also take him out for a bus ride.

I visited this facility

I went to The Plaza at Punchbowl. I like the dining room. I didn't like the fact that it is in the middle of the city and it's right by the freeway, so there's a lot of traffic noise. I need a very quiet place and it's not quiet. It's a perfect location for people that want a city-living lifestyle, but for somebody who wants a little more rural or suburban, that wouldn't work. There's nothing wrong with the place. They've got nice people and good arrangements, but not for me. The staff was good. Everybody's nice. I had lunch there and it was good. It's an average place. It's in the middle of the city. It's conveniently located, but it's next to the freeway and it's a bit noisy. That's the only downfall, in my opinion, outside of the fact that it is an average old folks' home.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I placed my mom at The Plaza at Punchbowl. It's a relatively new facility. It's convenient to where I live so I can visit often. The administrators are really helpful. They have good staff and bad staff. The older aides seem to be a lot more attentive to the patients. The younger ones aren't as attentive to the patients. My mom loves the food. They have a lot of activities from gardening, to exercise, to hula, to outings. They have their own shuttle that can take people on outings. They celebrate birthdays with cake and ice cream for everybody. They bring in people to sing music. Once a month, they have people come in and sing for them.

I like The Plaza at Punchbowl, and Mom seems to like it there even though she shares a room with someone else. They play games, and they exercise too. They have everything. They have a hairdresser that comes once a week, they take the residents out on joy rides, and they have doctors and dentists available. The staff is really excellent. My mom loves the food, and it was better than where she was before.

The staff at The Plaza at Punchbowl was really nice. The place was clean, but the rooms didn't have much closet space. We only stayed a short while, and we went with a big group of people. It was a nice community.

I visited this facility

My daughter and I went to visit The Plaza at Punchbowl, and we were really impressed by the atmosphere there. When you entered that facility, it feels very comfortable, and upfront there were a lot of inviting things. They had a counter for excursions, marketing, errands, and banking, which they put out in the open so that it's accessible to other residents. I really didn't care for the rooms though. They weren't really inviting, but I think it's only because they were actually vacant. There was hardly any furniture in there whereas the other places had a model for tour, so you could get a sense of the room itself, what it can accommodate, a single bed or how much space there is or what the furniture is in there. The staff was very accommodating to everyone. They knew all the residents by name. It just seemed like the residents themselves were very happy where they were. It was the kind of a facility that when you enter, right away you get a good feeling about. It felt like a five-star hotel. However, once your needs become more demanding, you need to look at other facilities.

I visited this facility

I have been to a place called the Plaza. It’s in my neighborhood, and it’s a very nice place. The staff seemed very nice, professional, accommodating, and helpful. The apartments were very nice, brand new, and clean. I went to a studio apartment; it was small but adequate for the lady who was living there. It seemed fine to me, and the place was secured. We watched by the dining room, and I think there were some people in there. It is spacious and clean. People were nice, but I wouldn’t be able to afford it. I would recommend it.
