Dignity is not the right name for this place. This is not a safe, clean or respectful establishment. If you love your loved ones do not leave them here. Rooms are dirty. Call lights go unanswered for hours. Food is terrible. Staff is rude. Other than being near the ocean this place is a total ripoff.

Dignity Senior Living at Oceanside was terrible. It looks like a nursing home, and its focus is memory care. So if you're not suffering from dementia, it's not the place to go. It's very dreary, poorly-staffed, and has terrible food. I don't have anything good to say about that place. Most days, no one knew how to help my friend how to get out of bed because she needs a special lift. There's a little dining room but she never went there. She was rarely out of her room except for appointments. There were a couple of staff members that she enjoyed and got closed to, but since they're poorly-staffed, you'd have to wait 3 hours for assistance after ringing your bell.

I visited this facility

Dignity Senior Living at Oceanside was in a very nice setting. The facility was nice, spacious, and clean. There were daily activities and meals, and they take them to doctor visits, but mostly they would prefer to use their in-house medical services because the doctors would be in town, which would be an hour's drive. The coordinator who showed us around and the RN who came and interviewed Mom were very cordial and very professional. If the place was in an area where the family could visit, it would be our first choice.

My mom has moved into Dignity Senior Living at Oceanside. It is a wonderful place. They take very good care of my mom. It is really well run. My visits are very good. The nurses are very kind and considerate. It is great; it is wonderful. They have arts and crafts, painting, jewelry making, movie nights, and shopping. They have a bus that takes them to town to go shopping. They take them to the hairdresser, and they have manicures and pedicures. They have everything going on there. I wouldn't mind moving there. The nurses are lovely. The dining room is very nice, very clean, and lovely. If you're local, the food is great. They have lots of everything. The place is immaculate; it is very clean.

The facility is really nice. Although remote, it offers transportation for residents to the town. It is peaceful and quiet which I really liked as I cannot imagine aging in the hustles of the city. Rooms are very nice size and the staff is very friendly and warm. Management is very responsive the needs of residents and their family members. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for quality assisted living at an incredibly affordable price. Great service. Warm and attentive staff. Abundant activities. Affordable. Definitely double thumbs up.

My mother is at Dignity Senior Living at Oceanside. It's absolutely beautiful. It is isolated and up on a long driveway. It has plants all around it. It is in paradise! The place is wonderful. It is four stories with two large, long wings. There's carpeting and lanais in each room. My mom is able to go out and see the birds. Also, it is very convenient for me to go there whenever my mother wants me. I eat there quite a lot, and I'm satisfied with what I eat. I'm also satisfied with the medical assistance and the help that my mother gets. My mother has macular degeneration so there's not much she can join in on. She can't play Bingo, she can't play Scrabble, and she can't play cards, but they provide all those games. They also provide live music, and there's a TV room with a huge TV screen. For someone who can see, the activities get 4 stars. They even take them shopping. They put them on a bus and take them to CVS and to Savers.

My husband and I went to Oceanside. It was really nice, but it wasn't what we're looking for. It was about an hour away from where we live, but the rooms were really beautiful and had a variety.

My parents moved into Oceanside last June and at the time it was a great fit. The care and aloha they experienced were top notch and the staff were capable and welcoming. There has been a turnover in staff since then and some of the changes have gone better than others. People need to remember that this is out in the country, not the city, and that is what made it such a good choice for my parents, especially my dad. When he passed last January, the comfort and care from the hands-on staff as well as management was something that my family and I appreciated immensely. No facility is perfect but, for us, knowing how safe and happy my mom is now makes Oceanside a good place for her right now.

My father moved in when Oceanside still promised "aging in place" -- however, when his needs increased, Oceanside did not honor that promise. One day, we received a phone call telling us to come care for him ourselves, or MOVE HIM OUT THAT DAY! We immediately went to visit that night, and found my father in poor health, and called an ambulance for him. He was hospitalized at Queens for several days. The only reason we let it go was because my father moved to Maunalani after Queen's discharged him, where he was much, much, much happier (and healthier). Also, my father's driver's license expired thanks to Oceanside, which caused us much headache (no id meant no power of attorney, etc). This was because Oceanside would not provide us with a letter stating that my father was a resident there, in order for him to prove place of residence -- despite several assurances from Oceanside that they would provide the letter. This headache was resolved after my father moved to Maunalani, with help from Maunalani staff. Sure, Oceanside is cheaper, but I guess you get what you pay for. Unfortunately we learned the hard way. I give one solitary star because some of the actual workers were caring and tried their best. My criticism is at Oceanside as an entity rather than any individual employee.

Oceanside was very pretty, had two rooms with a bathroom in between, and a private bed with closets. The staff seemed really nice. Their menu looked fine, and they had planned activities.

In July an entirely new management team took this facility over, so it's night and day compared to the old owners. Oceanside Hawaii is located less than an hours drive from Honolulu. That could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. For those who want their aging parents in a quiet facility close to nature and far from the hustle and bustle, traffic and tourists of the city, this is a good choice. The new facilities have been renovated and they've gone out of their way to create a family atmosphere with friendly staff. Besides being friendly, they have qualified professionals onsite who are RNs (registered nurses) and LPNs (Licensed Practitioner Nurses) so your loved ones are in safe and competent hands. Best of all, because they are located away from the crazy real estate prices of the city, their costs are lower and they pass that on to their clients. Oceanside's prices are almost half that of those in the city. Definitely worth taking a tour to see if this is for your parents.

I visited this facility

We liked everything at Oceanside Hawaii. The only thing is that it is in a remote area, but it's a really pretty facility. There were lots of overgrown bushes and it had woodsy areas on both sides of the road going up there, and my mother didn't like that. It made her uneasy. The most negative thing about it was that it's up against the mountain, and my mother didn't like that. I talked her into going into the facility, and she was very impressed with it. They had activities. The memory care section had their own dining room and activity room. It was just too far. They had a lot of activities and said they would them out to shopping to the grocery stores and to doctors' appointments or to go visit friends and relatives. She just felt isolated there because she'd be up in the mountains. We walked through the dining room, which was restaurant-style and looked good.

I visited this facility

I visited Oceanside Hawaii. I like the price. They're cheaper. However, I'm not really impressed somehow. The residents' faces were very dull. Their face was not really happy. The facility was OK. Their rooms were fine. However, I won't recommend this to those who have higher expectations. Also the building inside was stuffy.

Provider Response

At Oceanside Hawaii Assisted Living and Memory Care we provide care to a varied group of residents. The range of service go from independent supervision to complete care, with some residents being quite medically fragile. The open air environment of the first floor lobby, cafe, game room, and dining room allow each resident to enjoy the clean Hawaii country air. The ability to provide a supreme level services at an affordable cost is conducive to our desire to actively contribute to the well-being of the community we provide services in.

I visited Oceanside Hawaii. The minute I walked in the door, you could smell the odor, and I didn't like that. I wouldn't want to live there because of that. I was visiting a friend. She used to be a nurse and she seems to like the place quite a bit, but it wasn't as nice as the other facility. The staff though was wonderful. The room was not fancy. It was very simple. The dining room was very plain and small, but the food was alright. The food wasn't anything special, but it was good for lunch.

Oceanside was a very nice upscale place. They were very friendly and very helpful. I talked to one of the guys over there, and he's helping me push the paperwork through. I picked the place because of the location. It's out in the country, and it was very beautiful. There were a few bedroom units, and there's only one person in each room -- nobody's sharing a room. They have a community living room for the two units, and the place was very private.

What I did not like about Oceanside Hawaii was that they could not show us where the people with dementia end up. They have the Alzheimer's and dementia people in a certain area which they had locked up, so we could not see it. I also think the place is too expensive. Other than that, it was a beautiful place.

Everything is great over at the Oceanside Hawaii. My dad is in there, and we appreciate all their help. The staff is very helpful. They have a really good activity schedule. They have bus rides, and they go to different parts of the island. They may also have trips to Walmart. He likes it.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My mom was extremely happy with Oceanside Hawaii. We did a walkthrough on the facility and I was very impressed. When I first started looking for places in Hawaii, I was concerned that it was not going to be good considering there were a lot of facilities that will just decline us because we don't have a lot of money. But it turned out that the facility was affordable.
