I visited this facility

I found Cedarhurst of Granite City to be very accommodating and pleasing. I was excited that we could go there. However, my husband went on oxygen last January, and that's when I really kind of decided no. His tank is huge and it would have confined him to a very small space in the living room or the bedroom, and I did not want to confine him more than what he was confined to. The staff were very friendly. I thought the food was wonderful. The staff that brought up the dinner were very friendly, and said 'How are you today?' They serviced you very well. Like 'If you don't like these, is there something else we can substitute that for? Something else you prefer?' and they would do that. With regards to activities, they bring in birds from the wild bird sanctuary. They have weekly bingo there onsite. If you're a bingo player, at least you get that once a week. You could probably get other residents to join in for a card game. There was a member of the card club that was in there a few years back, and they were able to accommodate him once a week for the club to go there and play cards. And the fact that you could get snacks throughout the day and kind of roam the grounds and that you aren't confined to your little place, I found that to be very pleasing.

Cedarhurst of Granite City was very nice. The staff was lovely. The place was lovely, too. I'm sure my cousin would have enjoyed that place, but it was a little more expensive. The rooms were all lovely. Everything was covered like the utilities, the garbage pick up, and so on. The only time the charges started coming in would be for helping with aids of daily living. Right now, my cousin doesn't have any. She's managing everything on her own. They have an apartment setup. It was laid out nicely and beautifully. They had a small park in the back with a walking path that would have been very nice. It just wasn't quite as economical as the other one.

After our sister spent 5 months at two other facilities in the area that were absoulutely horrible, we found Cedarhurst in Granite City and are so pleased that we did! In the 5 months that she has been there, Pam has progressed from the highest needed level of care to the lowest level of care due to the caring staff who go out of there way to make her feel a part of the community and "at home." They have many activities to meet the residents' needs such as weekly outings for shopping, as well as a full daily schedule of activities such as bingo, chair yoga, crafts, music, and dice games. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to meet Pam's individual needs. It makes us so happy to hear Pam say that she "never wants to leave there."

We placed my dad at Cedarhurst of Granite City. It is affordable. It's a nice facility and was just renovated. The facility is clean. The staff is always very friendly. My dad says the food is good and enjoys it. The staff members are super helpful. Anytime I have questions or need help with anything, they are always available to help. In the memory care unit, they don't do a lot of activities because the residents don't engage a lot. My dad's area has a courtyard and a few outdoor spaces.

Cedarhurst of Granite City was very clean. They were in the end stages of remodeling, so everything was fresh. The office and the foyer outside were clean. Everything looked great. The staff was very friendly, very helpful, and not pushy. The women were playing some kind of a board game when we were there and people who were watching TV together. Others were just sitting around and chatting. The memory care units were good. It seemed to have an OK size that would accommodate someone. The cost was reasonable, but that location was just a little farther than we wanted to go.

My mom moved into Cedarhurst of Granite City. They tried to make my mom as comfortable as they possibly could. It has been a hard adjustment for her, but the people there are friendly. My mom is a very picky eater, but I think the food is good, and she has a good choice. They have a lot of different activities during the daytime for the people. They have bingo and crafts. They go on short little trips. On Sundays, they have someone playing the piano that you could go down and listen to. Every time I'm there, there are always people participating in the activities. They do try to get my mom to participate. The rooms are nice sized. Her room is towards the back of the building, and she has a beautiful view of a pond with ducks and beavers. Every morning, they check on my mom, take her pulse, and see how she's doing. It's in a good location, and it was a good fit for us too.

I've had friends that have lived in Cedarhurst of Granite City in the past. They're very pleasant. It's very accessible and they were very satisfied living there. It is something that we would look at, if the need arises. My friend appreciates the alternatives they have to substitute what is on their main menu or entrees for the day (if she doesn't prefer the main menu). She is also very pleased with the activities. There's an opportunity to meet new friends. The staff is more than friendly and caring.

Cedarhurst of Granite City seems like a very good place. This is a good place that was close by, and that was why I was interested in this one for my dad. They were very caring, very concerned, and very helpful in getting my dad to see what was going on and what was possible. They just did a good job. It was very clean, very organized, and very well taken care of. We looked at rooms that would be potential possibilities for him, and they were very well put together, organized, and good.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law resided at The Bristal at Holtsville, so I'm very familiar with that. There is nothing that I could even say about The Bristal except one thing, they had a lot of turnovers as far as employees, but I think that's just part of the trade and the times before the pandemic. They treated her like royalty. All the clients were treated like that. It was like being on a cruise ship 24/7, 365. If I could give it higher than a 5-star, I would. The only thing that I would say is that there's a lot of turnovers. It was stunning. She started with very minimal assistance and eventually she needed more and more care and you could increase that as needed. What I loved about the place is that there was a common room called the bistro where they had a piano, pool tables, and card game tables. They had areas where they did exercise, they had their beauty parlor on site, their arts and crafts room, their computer room, their cooking room, and there's a movie theater. They would hold church services in that, but they also had times when they would transport people daily to different areas in the community. You could have as much as whatever you wanted during dinner. They had different feeding times, but the food was outstanding. I cannot say enough good things about The Bristal. If the resident wanted to have a separate dinner with their family, there was a separate dining area on the side that you could have your family and you would pay a nominal charge for each person for the meal. The staff was outstanding. Everything is 5-star. My mother-in-law started very independent and got care as she needed it. They have medical facilities on site, full-time nursing care, and a walk-in clinic any time. The only one that's different is memory care because that's kind of locked down. They have a studio, one- and two-bedroom apartment options.

My mother is in Cedarhurst of Granite City. I like the 24/7 care. The staff has been wonderful. There are people there that she knows and that was a big help. We tried to get her in Granite because that's where we're all from. They've got a garden that you can go out and sit in. They've got a walking path to get exercise. They've got a hair boutique in the facility. They've got OT, PT, speech, and all that kind of stuff. They have bingo, coffee hour, painting, and a lot of different activities to keep them busy and for socialization. It's very clean. I ate one meal with her and the food was good. She's very happy with the food because I asked her how she liked her food at lunch or dinner, and she tells me she enjoys it. Now and then, they have something that she doesn't like, but they have other things to pick from other than the main course. I think they're reasonable in price.

My father is gonna stay here. He's been put on hospice where he's at and so I'm just gonna keep him there. They mostly deal with people with dementia and memory issues. He's been there for a year now and actually they have changed management. Cedarhurst has bought them out, so they are now Cedarhurst of Granite City. The aides and the attendants that work with him are very good, very caring, and give him lots of full attention. They do games and bingo and different things like that with the residents. They have a couple of nurses on-staff. I haven't had any problems with the whole place at all. They've been very communicative, they tell me what's going on all the time, they follow through if they have to send him to a doctor, and if he falls or hurts himself, they let me know right away, and if they need to take him to a hospital, they let me know first before they do it. He's supposed to be in a shared room, but he has his own room. They don't have that many residents. They have activities like games and bingo, they have three meals a day, they get to watch TV, and they have movie days and popcorn days. They're very good staff, and they keep their employees for a long time. Since Cedarhurst has taken over, they have replaced a few staff, but other than that, they're good. He's always told me the food is very good. He always describes it as like eating in a nice restaurant. They're more reasonable than most of the places around.

Especially in times like we’re experiencing people should know that Cedarhurst has not made sure that my Mother’s medical needs have been met. If you talk to two or three people in a matter of hours you will get two or three different answers. Chronic UTI can be a very serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately. The facility does not seem to care. Phone calls concerning your loved one appears to be an aggravation instead of an opportunity to actually care for the resident.

My mom moved in. Everybody there is amazing, it's wonderful, they keep up with you, they seem to really be caring with the patients, it's just been good all the way around, the communication is great, and the care seems to be great. The staff is really responsive, caring, and informative. Everytime something happens, even though it's just minimal, they call and let me know. She loves the food. It's the most reasonable of the ones I looked at.

We chose Cedarhurst of Granite City because it is closer to my mom-in-law's family. It is great. The people there are really nice and very helpful. The place is very clean. My mom-in-law is very happy; she likes her room. They have a lot of activities, but with COVID, and because she was in the hospital for a little while, she hasn't been able to have the full experience just yet. Right now they have been fantastic and helpful. The place is very clean and very well decorated.

I visited this facility

This community reminds me of a hotel. It was comfortable, and there was a sitting area for the visitors, as well as a reception desk. It was secure, meaning you can't go past without a password. The staff was nice. It was quiet. The one-bedroom was simple, and they had a studio that was Jack and Jill style where they share the bathroom. They had someone singing when I was there. The staff was pleasant, smiled, and made me feel welcome, even the kitchen staff.

My husband is here and they give him very good care and they watch out for him. He seems to be getting along good now. It took him a little bit to get adjusted, but now he's doing real good. They've been very helpful. If I have any problems, they help me to get answers and the staff members are really good workers and very good people. It's a locked facility. You come in and you check in, and then you go through locked doors. They give you a code and you press that and you go through the locked doors and you go to the unit where they're at. It's very clean. They help anybody who needs help to get to the right place. They're very pleasant, very kind, and considerate of the resident and of the people that come in. They got their own room and they share a bathroom. The food is good. I don't have any complaint. The pricing is fair. Regarding activities, they don't push them to go unless they want to go. If they want to go, they take them.

I am/was a resident of this facility

There is a lot to be desired living at this facility. The staff act like they are doing the resident a favor by emptying trash cans or making the bed. Not much in the way of activities. For the amount of rent, you are not getting what you are paying for.

We visited and the staff was very nice. The guy that took us through, his name was Dennis, was also very nice. However, the room was very small and it was too pricey. Even if my mom was on medicare/medicaid, she still wouldn't be able to afford that. I would recommend it to people who could afford it.
