I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law has moved into Grand Villa Assisted Living. What I like best is the food and the cleanliness. The place is really clean. But the main thing we didn't like about them was when my mother-in-law pushed her call button, they would never come and check on her. It could be an hour later that they may show up. My mother-in-law is supposed to be assisted when she goes to the bathroom when she bathes, and when she is getting out of bed. When she bathes, there are two people who are with her, but as far as her going to the bathroom or anything like that, she's not assisted. She did not get assistance. And when she fell, she pushed that button, but nobody came. And the only reason that they came was when she started yelling. So that's not good at all. There was no activity. My mother-in-law went to a church service there, and that was it. She has been there for a week now, but she already had two ambulance rides from that place. I have not tried the food, but looking at it, it looked good. With regards to amenities, I haven't seen an exercise place, but they have a beauty salon at the very end of the hall. I would give them a 3 due to the lack of help that people are getting there. However, the staff members that we talked to and staff were all very nice.

I visited this facility

We toured Grand Villa Assisted Living. They had some rain and the roof had leaked into the attic and they had all the attic doors open into the main space to dry out the attic. They left the heat up there so that it wouldn't freeze like it did, I guess, and broke the pipes. That's bad maintenance. That was not a very good first impression for them. They don't have any grounds at all to walk around, too. They have a yard, but it's on the main street. The staff, though, was very nice.

Having mom at the Grand Villa Assisted Living has been a good experience. It's bright, and light and they have lots of greenery outside. There's always an aide here and there that is not up to snuff, but overall, they've done very well. They have a dining area with tables that are always decorated nicely. They always have activities going on. They have a little bird aviary that they can sit in and a piano for anybody who wants to play it. I have no complaints about the facility itself other than their rooms are very small, although they're able to make them as homey as they can. They can decorate their room to their taste. So, it's still nice. They don't have physical therapy or a swimming pool or any of that, but they have an on-site beauty shop. We ate there just before Thanksgiving and the food was all delicious. They have an activities coordinator, so they're always offering bingo, card games, and morning exercises. They also have a chaplain that comes around and talks to the residents. They have different churches that come in and they'll do little church services. So, they try to keep the residents busy and I think they even take some of them to the store on occasion. They'll take a vanload to Wal-Mart and bring them back. They have a high turnover though. The CNAs come and go frequently. So, that's disappointing that they don't know my mom well, but there are several that have been there the whole time my mom has been.

Our favorite place was Grand Villa Assisted Living. It's smaller than the other ones and more open. We feel like that would be a great fit for our parents. I think the biggest thing is that it's a simple floor plan. You walk in and you can see everything. It's just like a long building. It's a two-story, but they have skylights, which bring in a lot of light, so it gives more of a friendly atmosphere. There are rooms on the top floor and rooms on the bottom floor more like a hotel style. The girl that showed us around was very friendly. There was a group of elderly ladies in the middle of the open area, and they were playing a game or something like that. And there were probably 10 ladies sitting around this big table, which was welcoming to see that they were out of their rooms doing things. There's a small garden in the back area, so they could go out and plant their own. I think there was just a tomato plant out there, but the staff said in the past there had been strawberries and corn and stuff like that. My dad likes to garden, so that was kind of interesting. The grounds are beautiful. It is right off Patterson, so that's a pretty busy street. My mom isn't to the point where she's wandering it all, but that could be a concern. But they all wear like a little beacon or something like that, where if they fell, they could push it for help, or if they leave the building, it beeps.

What a fabulous place, my mom has been there almost a year and she is so happy. We can’t say enough about the staff willing to help with all aspects of my mom’s daily needs.

I really liked the lady who showed us around Grand Villa, but it was more expensive, and the room that my mother-in-law would have to share didn't have real privacy, so that is why we chose not to go there. The staff who walked us around was wonderful. She was really nice and informative, and I really liked her a lot. The dining room looked really nice and was almost like a nice open hotel dining, but we didn't actually have any of the food. What I liked most was probably the staff and just the openness of the lobby and the dining area. Two things they need to improve would be the cost and the rooms because when they have to share, they don't really seem to have a lot of privacy.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Mom resides at this facility for the last 6 months. My Mom has difficulties with remember her medications, she wasn't cooking properly for herself or keeping her nor her home clean. The staff telling me she is very sweet and compliant. She likes the food, having someone to clean for her. My issue with the facility started with a scheduled dentist appoint in August. The dentist office called to speak to whomever regarding medication prior to the cleaning (3 weeks prior) as my Mom has had a hip replacement. The dental office called Carla and her staff 4 times before anyoone would return her call. On the 4th time she informed the individual on the phone that my mother would not be seen unless someone returned her call and ordered the medications. The denitst office also changed the time of the appointment. It was not on a Tuesday which is the only day they will transport residents to appointments. I had made arrangements with the facility to pick up my Mom and take her to this appointment. and then go out for lunch. I picked up my Mom and took her to the dentist appointment at the arranged time only to find out that the appointment had been changed and all the problems with Carla and her staff. The dentist moved people around and made time to see my mom closer to the 10am orginial time. On returning to Grand Villa I spoke with Carla about my concerns she had a multitude of reasons, the note of the phone call must of gotten lost, I was on vacation, really not my fault was the message I recieved from her. I then made a appointment to speak with Rebbecca G., director. We went off my Moms' care plan adding help with remembering what day it is and all my concerns regarding the nursing staff. I felt as if I was patted on the head and sent off. This women may care about her staff more than the people she is suppose to care for. Currently the elevator is not working due to a fire in September. My Mom lives on the second floor and is very proud of the fact she can walk the stairs to the horror of myself and many of her friends. Some of them can no longer visit as they can't climb stairs. In the October family newsletter it stated that the elevator would be working in 6 weeks. In the Novemeber newsletter it states they don't know when it'll be fixed, parts are being manufacted. When asked last week about the elevalor I was told the parts had started to arrive and I should look in the garage at them. I am done!!!!! I will be moving my Mom. This place is clean and some fo the line staff very nice. the administration and nursing staff needs to work harder to actually care for the elderly they have been chosen to be care for by them.

I visited this facility

Grand Villa was a convenient location, as it was just down the street from my home. This allowed me to visit my grandmother often, and my mother was able to visit daily. The center was easily accessible and the staff was friendly enough. Facilities are a bit dated, but it appeared to be clean and in good working condition. They seemed to offer activities for the other residence, but I can't comment on those as my grandmother is unable to participate. The food is a bit on the blah side, but it appeared healthy. My grandmother has Alzheimers, is very irritable and paranoid, and not an easy person to get along with, but the staff was very efficient in care, and very patient. They had to spend probably 10 minutes a night just to administer the pills to this obstinate lady! And I never saw them exasperated once. The staff was also very careful, as my grandmother had C-def, a contagious bacteria, and the staff followed the quarantine procedure exactly. They followed proper disposal practices, used the proper attire, and always washed their hands. I think it was this carefulness and attention to detail that allowed my grandmother to recover quickly. My grandmother recovered and regained her strength to come home within a couple of months, and I can't thank the staff enough.

The Villa was a really nice place. They have nice rooms, their staff is excellent. As of this time, we decided not to put my Mom in Assisted Living. If ever in time she is ready, we already picked this place for her.
