I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The staff hides out in the other wing especially on weekends. I had the light on for patient to be repositioned and timed it as over one hour and forty five minutes before anyone came and that was to deliver supper!!! The ice machine has been broken for almost three weeks. Basically no recreation program. Some staff exceptionally kind and nice but they are an aberration

I visited this facility

I have been to several convalescent homes in visiting my mother, father, sister, and friends. This place is horrible!! Incompetent social workers, lazy and non-attentive bedside staff, loud fitness gym type modern music playing through the sound system, faulty heat/air conditioning system, pathetically small PT space with very little fitness essentials, and the most terrible food. PLEASE do not even consider coming here!!

Salmon Brook is the worse facility. THE PT Department consists of aggressive therapists and a incompetent Manager. The goal is to push you out, especially for elderly patients. There are not enough aids and patients get hurt all the time. There are better facilities. There are also many State of CT complaints against the facility. Move on there are much better places!!!

I visited this facility

Salmon Brook Center is a nursing facility that has a rehab wing and a residential wing for memory care patients and patients who need 24/7 nursing care. The staff from the orderlies all the way up to the head nurses are wonderful. Everybody, including the physical therapist, is so kind. Families can visit anytime they want, day or night, any day. They can also bring pets to visit their loved one if they want to. It's a very friendly kind of family atmosphere. There's not enough parking, but it's conveniently located close to a bus line. The actual building has just been remodeled. The rooms are mostly double rooms and have windows. The residential rooms have singles, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the residential area because our friend was in rehab. My mother was OK with the food. The facility was a very nice, good place.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The woman I am helping is in Salmon Brook Center. They are willing to accept her long-term. I think it is a good nursing home since I know several people who have gone there. My mother is there, also, for a short time. They seem to be very patient with her and have been very helpful in assisting me and answering my questions. They seem to be well-staffed. There is just one thing that I am a little concerned about; the person that I am trying to help happened to be in the hospital, so, whiel I wasn't getting any answers from the hospital as to how long she was going to be in there, I went to Salmon Brook to pick up some of her belongings. I walked in, picked up her clothes, walked out, and did not see anybody near the front door. That causes me some concern. The room that she is in seems nice enough. The first week she was there, she had the room to herself. She went to the hospital, came back, and she now has a roommate. There are two people in a room. The staff seems to be adequate. In the area where she is, it seems to be quite busy. I do know that they probably have a few activities going on for people who want to attend. When I go there, there is usually maybe three or four people in the lobby area in wheelchairs just sitting there; I do not know what their circumstances are, but there seems to be activities happening all of the time.

Visited this facility

My grandfather stayed at Salmon Brook Center after he could no longer care for himself. This was his final home before passing. I visited him here often. It was a very nice place, with kind caregivers. He made some friends and participated in the activities and events held there. It was very quiet in his room, which was his alone, but he could always call out for help and have someone there quickly. He was a quiet man, and didn't complain about much, but I think he enjoyed his time at Salmon Brook Center. The staff was friendly and helpful. The building was always clean and looked pleasant, both inside and outside. He was able to live a somewhat independent lifestyle, while being taken care of medically and not having to worry about cooking or cleaning.
