I am/was a resident of this facility
I moved into Avondale two weeks ago. It is a 25 plus year old building, but it is kept very neat and clean, is very professionally run, and there is a family ambiance to it. I would prefer if they had an RN on duty at least 2 shifts a day. They are mostly staffed with certified Med-Techs. Most of the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, but there are some who are not as good as others. They have music programs two times a week and church services, but I am hoping that they will have some other activities that I will enjoy. This was the best of the four places I visited. The food and the staff are adequate. I wish they had more activities and better transportation for people, such as me, who depend on a scooter to get around.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My mother-in-law was in a facility before named Cottages of Avonlea. It was good for her in the beginning. She moved there with my father-in-law because he was the one who really needed assistance. After he passed away, it didn't suit her needs anymore. The rooms are fine. The biggest complaints there are the food and the lack of activity.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My grandmother is staying in Kendallwood Retirement Apartments. I can't say they are perfect but they are really good. This place is clean. Everybody there knows my grandma. The nurses just seem genuinely concerned about her. I would say that my grandmother is still adjusting. She is struggling a bit but part of it is because of an attitude thing with her, but that's okay.

I visited this facility
We happened to be in the area and decided to visit Kendallwood Retirement Apartments as an option for our aunt. The staff was very accommodating, despite the fact that we did not have an appointment. The outside of the building was very nicely maintained and there were plenty of spaces to enjoy the outdoors with other residents and friends and family. The lovely receiving area was fresh and bright and tastefully decorated, like one might find in a motel or condo building. The design of the interior was lovely with nice, natural light and views throughout. Residents are encouraged to enjoy physical activity as much as possible. The residents may take yoga, aerobics and other types of fitness classes, sometimes held outdoors. When the weather is mild, residents can enjoy walks along the property and greenery safely. The seniors go on nature walks and attend many cultural events outside in the community. The staff appeared to easily accommodate all levels of ambulation. There were many communal areas that were designed for easy access, with places for seniors to enjoy peaceful quiet time, socialize or participate in the many activities offered, with other residents and friends and family. The dining areas offered the kind of fare you would find in an upscale cafe or restaurant. The food we saw looked and smelled very appetizing. The menus included many options to choose from for all diets and tastes. Residents may eat in the main dining rooms or cook for themselves. Private units featured beautiful surroundings with nice views of the area. Each of the units had natural light and fresh air, through large windows. Units were thoughtfully designed with safety features, living areas and kitchenettes. The seniors appeared to really enjoy living in this retirement community, with kind, competent staff available as necessary. We liked that they can alternate care levels according to each individual's needs.
