I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has moved into Discovery Commons at Spring Creek. It's name is currently being changed. It was Discovery Commons at Spring Creek when we got my father in and now it's under new management. I don't like that they don't answer the phone. They don't respond in a timely manner. They didn't follow up when incidents happened. They need to improve their communication and family assistance. I hope that the new management is better.

I visited this facility

We visited Discovery Commons at Spring Creek and my husband said that it looked elegant. I think it's very nice in it's own way, and different from the other community we saw. The apartment we saw had a living area, but it also had a smaller refrigerator, microwave, and a small countertop. I think it's nice. I saw one empty unit and one model with furniture in it, so that gives you a good perspective of what can go inside. They have lots of activities, and their dining area was very nice. Their staff was really very helpful.

My parents-in-law are in Discovery Commons at Spring Creek. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The staff has been very helpful. The rooms are comfortable, and the closet and the bathroom shower are bigger than everywhere else I visited. The meal I had was OK. They have music, a choir, bingo nights, they do puzzles, and they take them out.

The facility is kept clean and like other facilities does not have strong odors. The staff is very helpful. She does not participate often. Although, people come up and perform (singing, etc.) One can always find someone to help when needed.

My dad is in memory care at Discovery Commons at Spring Creek. It was the best place with the best price that I have found. It was close to $3,000, but the facility was nice and not smelly, and the staff seemed nice. The dining area looks nice. They have games, big dominoes, and a whole bunch of things that they do. They're able to roam around and they have an enclosed garden area they can go to.

I visited this facility

A lot of the reasons we picked Rittenhouse Village at Spring Creek had to do with how the community looked. It was pretty, clean, and the price was really good. This community is very well-run, which is a big deal for me, and everyone is really helpful. They do activities with the residents, although my dad doesn't participate. The staff is very professional. His semi-private room is nice and roomy, and has a walk-in closet.

My mom was in Winters Park Assisted Living. The price was more expensive than what we could afford. It's like being in a 5-star hotel. The dining area had cloth tablecloths, and it's very nice. The rooms though were smaller. It's very nice if you can afford it, and they do a very fine job.

Mom has been a resident for approximately 6 months. The new director Stephen has "cleaned house" and made staff changes to make it an awesome place to live. They recently added a new nurse and a new chef! The facility is very clean, it doesn't smell (like many of the ones we visited) it is open and airy feeling, very welcoming. I have witnessed activities for the residents to include a luau, live music entertainment, church on site, puzzle clubs, bingo, and on and on. My sister and I love the place as much as mom does. Mom is confined to a wheelchair and needs assistance at just about everything she does. The staff is overly willing to assist mom in ensuring that all of her needs are met. I highly recommend this place! I only hope it is available when I reach the age on needing assistance.

We selected Winters Park based on the cost, the size of the rooms, and their amenities. It is near my son’s place. I have a physical assistance while my husband is Alzheimer’s assistance. Everybody was very nice.

Winters Park was very nice. They've just remodeled, and it was very clean and in very good condition. The staff was very friendly, and they did multiple phone call follow-ups. They had private rooms available. The dining area was very pretty, very spacious, and well decorated. They had a few activities like bingo, arts and crafts, and memory things.

We chose Winters Park for the convenience, but more than anything, they were able to help us out as far as the costcwas involved. I am extremely pleased with them. The staff has been really helpful and very friendly. They are willing to work with us in different areas. They provide different activities, which my mom has been getting involved with. They serve great food. It is a really nice place.

Don't let the great looks deceive you! Memory Care only wants the "cute" side of memory loss. Once the dementia related behaviors kick in, the resident is kicked out! Doctor heavily over medicates, prescribing even antibiotics just for a sore throat (no fever) without any exam. They don't want to pay for a full time activities director, who was the only person on staff I felt I could trust. Turnover of staff is huge. Belongings are lost forever, despite labeling. Several times, my mother escaped. Twice, the staff was not aware. One of those, she fell and hit her head. The other, she was getting into the car of a visitor she convinced to "take her home." It was really a nightmare.

Horrible !! The facility has gone downhill in the past six months. Almost all of the Memory Care staff are new and lack knowledge about caring for someone with dementia (as demonstrated by their behavior). Our mother was seriously injured and they could not tell us actually what happened. During the last family meeting we discovered episodes of horrible staffing and lack of supervision. We moved Mom, but not in time to spare her from pain. The employees there should be ashamed. I wouldn't even give them one star but the website requires it.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My sisters has been in Winters Park Assisted Living in Garland, TX for about a year and a half. It is real clean and everything is good except for the nursing staff and the doctor that comes to the facility. I asked the head nurse back in January to reduce my sisters medicine since she was taking enough to kill a horse. She said she would contact the doctor. I didn't hear anything else, and didn't keep tabs of medicines they were ordering from the pharmacy. She became very ill and was having diarrhea and she became anemic. Two different times when she asked to see the doctor, the nurse did not tell the doctor. Finally the doctor saw her and took a blood test to find out that her kidneys were failing. They almost waited too long. She became dehydrated due to the diarrhea and the enormous amounts of diuretics they were giving her. The facility did not believe she had diarrhea and the nurse said she rather hateful things about her. She said May was always asking for medicine, but she did not ask for all those diuretics nor did she ask for all that other medicine. I had told them in a nice way to stop the diuretics, because she was already taking some with her blood pressure pill. After I took her to a kidney doctor, I saw the drug list that was given to the doctor and realized that right after I had asked them to reduce her medicine, they doubled all of it - even the diuretics. When the kidney doctor saw she was taking so many diuretics, he ordered Winters Park to cease giving them to her, but they didn't because the kidney doctor's office called and asked me if they were giving her more medicine because her kidney levels had risen from the time of her first visit. They called the doctor, but they did not take her off them, because when I confronted them about doubling her medicine I find out they were still giving them to her three times a week. The manager apparently has no intention of firing this inept ignorant, vindictive nurse. All I know is that they will get a big lawsuit one of these days for killing one of those patients. The nurse is dangerous and I don't recommend this facility to anyone.

I visited this facility

We went to Winter's Haven because my mom has friends in there. It was absolutely fabulous. We couldn't ask for anymore. It was very pleasant and people in there looked happy. I thought the staff was overly friendly. They would pop their heads from the other rooms even as we were walking down the hall, and I thought that showed a lot of compassion. The only thing that was discouraging to me was knowing that the rooms they were getting are small and it just seems so hard to go to a little room. That's the only down thing I saw.

We got to know the residents personally over the course of a year, and the residents commented that they enjoyed staying at this facility. The staff seemed to be courteous to us and to the residents, they treated the residents with respect as older individuals, and were willing to help us help them. The inside environment is relaxing, welcoming, and enjoyable, and we saw family members come each week to visit with their relatives in different areas of the lobby. There is a courtyard with patio seating, a fireplace or two, and a small exercise room suited for group exercise. There are kind, attentive individuals working in the dining room, and the food is pretty good. They have ample activities for the residents to enjoy, and one man commented that he saw no need to leave the facility because "the entertainment is here." The front staff care to get to know you and care that you have come to visit or to offer emotional support to one of their residents. The only negative thing we encountered was an occasional lack of communication between the director of activities and other staff members. The residents said they would recommend this location to their friends.
