I visited this facility

My father-in-law is going to Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks after he's discharged from rehab. We chose this facility because they were the only assisted living center that would accept the PEG tube for my father-in-law. They were very courteous and kind. They have been very interested in his care and in his ability to take care of himself. They contact us at least once a week just to kind of check in to see how he's doing, if there's anything that they can do to help us find him a bed, and the things that he's going to need when he moves in. So, we've been very appreciative. There had been a freeze. The pipes froze in one of the sections of their building the day before, and they already had people out there working. They had to move a few residents into other units. They were very proactive and on top of things, and I really appreciated that. The staff there knew everybody's name and spoke to everybody, and just kind of acknowledged their presence.

I visited this facility

I had an in-person tour of Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks. I like the coordinator who gave me the tour. She was extremely friendly, not just to me but to every resident I saw her interact with. She was professional and sincere in the way she interacted with the community members. The apartments would be sufficient for anything we would need. The only thing that I didn't love was that it looked like there wasn't central air conditioning in the unit. She talked about activities. She showed me the courtyard, the rooms, and the hallways. It was a very welcoming community and well-maintained. It looks like it was very accommodating to welcome guests and family members of the residents. I saw them getting ready for an end-of-summer party where families would be invited and had activities for children.

Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks was very good. I saw the entire unit. I did get a chance to see their more dementia-related activities. They have a large garden where the patients can go out and sit. They have music playing throughout the facility. The setup was great and it's geared toward the patients. The staff has been very good and working with me to assure that I'm making the proper placement. They're assisting me with avenues of how I can make that happen. They show a very good interest in what our needs are versus the patient just being a dollar sign.

Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks is wonderful. It's very open and the staff is excellent. I'm glad we moved my parents there. They like it. They have said that the meals are wonderful. There's a lot of variety and they're very good. They play bingo, and they've got a game room, a library, and movies for people to watch. There's a beautiful courtyard where they can walk outside (dad enjoys walking outside). They do all kinds of stuff and so it's a very good value.

I visited this facility

I toured Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks. The best thing about the facility was the fact that its staff was extremely well educated in memory care. And they knew all of the symptomology, all of the habits, and all of what's common with Alzheimer's and the other forms of dementia. They were extremely fluent in how to handle people and what causes what. I was very impressed with their education and their ability to work with people. They were also very good to people walking in. But the drawback to them was the busy street that they're on, their limited parking, and access in and out since everybody for memory care was at the back. The place was a bit dated. And they were serving lunch when I was there one time, and they were bringing everything through like the sectional Styrofoam containers. And I didn't think that was quite proper. It's economical and it's easy to care for and prevents disease and all that, but if you're going to pay for a facility, you should sit down and eat on plates and forks and all of that. And there was kind of that old people smell that permeated the facility, I think they could have more of the commercial doors, like a hospital. The only thing I would recommend for the facility itself would just be kind of give it a little bit of a facelift, modernize it a little bit, and brighten it up. And if they could keep the air kind of fresh a little bit so it doesn't smell like what they used to call "the old folks' homes". Because when you walk in and there was a smell of witch hazel and alcohol and all the other things that the older people would use that just kind of hangs there. But they had the best staff that I encountered compared to other places.

Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks had a very, very efficient, very cordial, very personable staff. It's very neat, organized, and I was impressed with the facility. The community offers pretty good meals too.

I visited this facility

I took a tour at Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks, and I liked it a lot. The people were very friendly and very informative. It was a single-story facility, and I liked it a lot. I liked the memory care facility, and I was able to see both. I'm not 100 percent sure if my dad would go into assisted living or if I would go in memory care. The facility would have to help me make an assessment on that, but my dad would probably go directly into memory care. The facility was clean, and the patient/staff ratio was pretty low. The safety features in place were good. I do not know if I can ask for more improvement in assisted living. For memory care, maybe they could make it a little bit brighter as far as light coming in the facility and maybe they could make it a little bit more upbeat on some of the activities. Those would be the only two things that I noticed that were a teensy bit disappointing. The marketing director was very informative and very friendly. Some of the areas outside needed a little bit sprucing up.

I visited this facility

I visited Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks, the lady was very nice, but she understood our financials, and this was not something we are going to do. Her fees were higher than anybody else when I compared them. It was well-maintained. The dining setup was nice, they had a place for the family to gather, and a place for the seniors to watch a movie.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been living at Tanglewood Oaks for a little more than a year. She is miserable and hasn't found much assistance at all. She will be moving soon which is not a move she wanted to make as change is difficult as we age but when asked if she was willing to spend the remainder of her life there she was willing to deal with the adjustments required to move. Hopefully her new home will be a better situation. Carefully check the compliance records and try to get a straight answer about problems they had with adult protective services in 2015. I never got a clear answer on why they were cited.

Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks was clean and nice, but it wasn't new. It was one story, and it was smaller than the other Brookdale place I visited. The dining area was very nice.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My parents are well taken care of in Brookdale Tanglewoods Oaks. The room is more like an apartment, so they feel at home with all of their belongings there. I like it. It is close by my home, so after work, I can stop by on my way home. They play card games, listen to music, and play games on the TV. They seem to enjoy it there. I like that it is affordable and close to home.

We also visited here and it was an older place, but it was clean. They had a suite, which was large -- the bedroom and the living room were together, they had two closets and the bathroom was very large. The dining room was clean and nice. The staff was very friendly. They had a lot things for them to do.

They're friendly here. Their rooms were a little small. The main thing I didn't care for was their menu. Also I think the residents looked kind of bored because they really didn't have as many activities for them to do. They had people mainly in wheelchairs and on walkers, but they didn't seem like they were overly excited about anything. They did have some activities, but they weren't for my aunt; she wouldn't like them. However, I think she would have liked that they had an area on the front where she could sit and watch the traffic.

I visited this facility

We visited Tanglewood Oaks for my wife. They were pretty nice. This was our second choice. It was a much smaller facility. Their staff was very nice. They only have efficiency apartments and they seem okay. They did have an exercise room and very good exercise equipments. However, they didn't seem to have as many activities as the other facility we looked at.

It was very nice, but it was not the setting that I was looking for. Their staff was very nice and very helpful. The lady let me know immediately that this was probably not for Larry.
