Reviews of Safe Harbour Assisted Living Facility

I visited this facility
I visited Safe Harbour Assisted Living for possible placement for my father. I took a tour of the facility and left very concerned about the care that the residents receive. To begin my tour I was given directions to the facility that were fine. I arrived at the facility and was confused as to where the actual entrance was. The facility is surrounded by a large aging wooden fence with no welcoming sign or direction how to enter. There were no staff in sight and no direction on where to park. After walking around the fenced area I noticed a little security type talk box with a button so I pushed the button in hopes that someone would reply with directions on how to enter. My appointment time was pre scheduled and I was hoping that the admission staff would be awaiting my arrival. The button on the box was depressed several times with no responce so again I began to walk around aimlessly. Finally after a legnthy wait and much walking around this legnthy wooden fence I heard someone calling me. It was the owner. My tour began in his small office that he shared with his Director Of Assisted Living dressed in very tight street clothing and very high heels. I was suprised to see that a Director that deals with the elderly population in an active role would be dressed in very high heels and tight street clothing. Next we began out tour and I was shown around a kitchen type tiled area where rooms were also present, I thought it seemed strange that rooms would be in this area far from any real type of housing. We then walked thru the kitchen area to yet another cold empty tiled area with more rooms, it seemed odd that rooms again were in this area as it was still cold, and very unlike a warm home feeling There were two unfriendly staff members in the area using a washer and dryer I was told they were CNA's, no residents were in sight. I was then taken to a seperate area that was a larger room that was being used as a type of day room, completely deserted, no staff, no activities, not even a television set playing and there on the couch sitting all alone behind closed doors was a very frail elderly woman who appeared very undernourished, and weak. with many bandaids applied to many areas of her arms and legs along with bruised areas exposed. The woman appeared to be much to weak and frail to be left alone in a room with absolutly no attendants, nothing to drink and appeared too weak to care for herself. I was then told the woman was a resident. I quickly offered the owner my thanks for showing me around and got out of there as fast as I could. The tour was frightning and I left with a terrible feeling for the poor woman all alone. I would strongly advise against placement in this facility based on my tour.
