I visited this facility

I toured Oakmont of Folsom. I like the facilities there. Like pretty new, very state-of the art. They had a nice big-screen movie theater room with about 30 seats big leather chairs and a big screen. They have an outdoor basketball court. They have a little area for your dogs to come and visit and outside in the grass. The staff was fine. They were excellent.

Oakmont of Folsom was beautiful. It's very high end and very Victorian-type decorated, so it's very pretty inside. And they have a lot of caregivers and everything. It's just too expensive. Service wise they were probably going to be excellent, but people can't afford it. The staff I met was very nice and very informative. She kept in touch with me.

I visited this facility

We really liked Oakmont of Folsom, but they were full. We did a thorough investigation, and we're going to set my parents up there, and then they were too full. We had seen both assisted living and memory care. The staff were very involved and seemed very organized with all their programs, even in the memory care. They had them constantly doing things. They were very interactive and always working with the seniors, which I think is important. I think they were a little more interactive there than the other place. The dining area looked really good. The community itself felt very homey, comfortable, and really nice. They had different dining options in the assisted living portion, like little restaurants. And then outside, there was a trail, trees, and a creek. It was just beautiful. It makes you want to be there.

We liked Oakmont of Folsom. Nicole is amazing. She still calls us just to see how my dad's doing. She's just a caring individual. The staff was excellent. We had a meal there, and the food was delicious. The dining area was very nice, like a fancy restaurant. The rooms were spacious and clean. They made the residents feel at home, you can bring your own furniture, your photos, and your memory wall out front. They had a lot of activities on a calendar, like on a whiteboard for the residents to do.There was a lot for them to be engaged with.

We looked at Oakmont of Folsom which was very nice, but they're really expensive. They wanted a $6,000 move in charge. The facility is too large for my mom, and it could be overwhelming. As beautiful as it was and with everything they have to offer, it's just too expensive and too large. One of the nice things was their dining area. Their food is a little more upscale, and they prepare it right in front of you. They have a chef there with several people working behind him. You can watch it, and the food is freshly made. It's pretty nice, but you're going to pay for it. The staff that gave the tour was very good. She was very professional, and she did a great job showing us around.

My mom is in the memory care part of Oakmont of Folsom called The Traditions. We chose it because of its closeness to my residence in Folsom, the cleanliness and the appearance of the place, and for all they had to offer like the programs they had there. They have the ability to take the residents to their doctors' appointments, and they also have an in-house PT. After moving her we had dinner there, and the food was not amazing as they made it sound, but it was OK. In the lobby you're able to take your loved one to coffee in the morning, so it feels like they're getting out. They have a little cafe out front. They have a nice sitting area and a nice courtyard. For the memory center they also have a little area where they can walk by themselves. So far, the staff has been really nice. She's only been there for a little while and she's having a hard time getting used to being there, so they've asked me to not come by.

It seems so many reviews of communities are written by disgruntled family members so I thought it was important to share a positive one. My brothers and I love Oakmont and (most importantly) so does my dad. Caring, funny staff that like my dad and show him respect; great environment that is modern and full of light that makes it joyful for us to visit, and, of course, caregivers we trust and rely on. We’re so happy my dad lives there!

This place looks great on the outside. Nice rooms. Activities available. Some good staff, but failure to retain them. Poor floor design creates constant attempts by memory residents to leave. Little attention given to keeping them bathed. Poop on a seat in the room still remained two days after I asked it to be cleaned up. Laundry not done. Towels and wash clothes not replaced in the room. Dietary supplements prescribed by the Dr. not given. Dirty dishes left in the room. Failure to find ways to deal with incontinence issues. Request for care agreed to but not employed. Moved them to a smaller place that provides much better care.

Oakmont of Folsom was perfect. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, informative, and helpful. It was clean, and it was very nice. It was really close to the hospital and her doctors. The residents were busy. They had activities going on. They had congregations of different people and they were all doing things. Some were playing music, and some were just visiting. The facility was great.

Oakmont of Folsom is fairly new, but it has a little bit of a cold feeling to it. I didn’t see any men there. Most of their clientele were women.

Provider Response

I am sorry to hear that you did not get to experience the warmth of our incredible staff and residents and vibrant activity program during your visit. We would love to invite you back for lunch or dinner so you can meet some of our residents, many of whom are men, and they can answer any questions you may have about the care and lifestyle they experience here every day. Oakmont is a brand-new facility, they have one restaurant on site which was very nice, and the staff was very friendly and very helpful. They were very kind and made arrangements with the residents to open their apartments to us for the tour. The apartments were beautiful, small, and very efficient. They did seem to have a lot of activities to keep the residents engaged. However, it was out of my mother's price range.

Oakmont of Folsom was a lovely place; it was beautiful. I really liked it. The rooms at Oakmont were a lot smaller with not big closets and a small bed, my mom would be really unhappy to move, and she is doing OK at where she is at. It is less money for her, and she would be depressed to move out of there into a smaller space. Beautiful architecture, the common areas are just really lovely, and I loved the two interior courtyards. They have the interior courtyard for the memory impaired, and then they have a regular interior courtyard. Just the architecture, the spaciousness, and everything were very nice for all the common areas. It seemed to me that the staffing was really good too. It was very nice, but sort of more expensive than what we are doing right now.

I think Oakmont of Folsom is an A-plus facility. I’m really happy there with their service, their caregiving staf,f and the management. I think it’s topnotch, but it is on the expensive side. I think the food is fine. In fact, I think it is probably better than any of other places where my mom has been. The caregiving staff, the management, and their services are topnotch. They do shopping trips, movies, and farmers market.

My dad just moved out of Oakmont in late 2015. Oakmont looks fantastic on the tour. We thought it was the perfect choice. But they vastly failed to live up to our expectations. Here are some of the issues. Staff & Mgt. Turnover - The facility was open less than a year yet they were on their 4th general manager. They were seeking their 3rd manager for the memory care area. This trickles down to every position. It seemed every time I went in there there was a new person caring for my dad, and that person knew nothing of my dad's needs. Pendents - They tout the pendent system, where residents can click a button to call for help. We tested my dad's pendent many times and never got response. One time we clicked it, followed up to find out what happened, and a caregiver told us that the pager goes off so many times from the pendents that there is no way he can respond, so he ignores them. Another time nobody was wearing the pager, and it was sitting in the office buzzing! The whole pendent thing became a joke because based on many test tries we knew nobody responded. Large Corporation - On our tour the salesperson touted the fact that this was not some huge corporation, but instead was a family run business. We found the opposite to be true. Time and time again we asked for services or made suggestions, only to be told that there was a "corporate policy" against it. For instance, we wanted to purchase a bed alarm pager for my dad, so that staff would know when he got out of bed, but corporate policy would not allow it. Lack of Communication - We wrote down and provided care instructions for my dad when he moved in and many times following that. Yet we never met a new employee who knew anything about the care instructions for my dad. We continually were trying to train employees, one at a time. but the high turnover made this impossible for us to keep up with. Poor Memory Care Design - The residents in the memory care area continually head for the large double doors, only to have the alarm sound when they try to open them. Staff ends up spending a large amount of their time chasing down these door alarms. The design is really poor, and it takes away the caregivers from the core area and sends them to the parameters to chase down the door alarms. This means less care for those not pushing the doors. Activity Calendar - When we looked at Oakmont we loved the activity calendar. But when we moved my dad in, we found that many or most of the activities failed to meet our expectations. For instance, "Chair Exercises" was on the calendar. I attended one to find that they gathered the residents in front of the TV and played an exercise video! Nobody was exercising, and no staff were leading it or even encouraging people to participate. The list goes on. The laundry service turns the white clothing into pink clothing, and splashes bleach on the colored clothing. I would come into my dad's room in the middle of the day to find a used adult diaper on the floor. My dad would frequently be out of his room without his glasses on, even though he greatly needs them. Items would disappear from the room and go lost. Ugg, it was always something! All of this is a shame because there are a some employees here who are absolutely fantastic. They try hard. Many are very very kind. But the corporate umbrella and high employee turnover rate over them makes their job really difficult. And the facility is beautiful. It really is a showcase. But, in total, it was not a good place for my dad. It seems like this place has all the potential in the world. But, at least in our case, they really failed to live up to even a minimum level of care for my dad.

Oakmont was a well-kept facility. The activities seemed great, and the food looked awesome. The staff was wonderful. They would take people out everyday for a walk through a walking program. They had a bird sanctuary inside, which I liked. They offered shared and single rooms.

While our family member was in the assisted living apartment it was good and he was happy there. When he declined and we moved him to the memory care unit our experience was 180 degrees the opposite. Staff didn't care for him properly, needs were not addressed, and repeated complaints to management brought no results. Thee are no safety pull cords and they don't give residents alert pendants there. They told us they monitor the residents by motion sensors in the rooms, but if your loved one falls and can't get up how is a motion sensor going to help? The facility is very new and fancy but it means nothing if the people don't look after the residents. They didn't change his close or direct him to do so, let him walk around without eye glasses or hearing aides, and dentures. I think they had enough staff to care for the residents but I thought they were not supervised or trained. We were willing to pay the costs here which were higher than other places but could not accept the lack of service. We only lasted 3 weeks in the memory care unit. We have relocated to another facility and all of our expectations are met there with out having to complain or remind.

Oakmont at Folsom is memory care and assisted living. I saw home care, two homes that they took people in. I liked the room set up, but it is smaller. They had an outdoor walking area which was nice, but again, they didn’t have any openings and it was much more expensive. We were looking for a shared room facility, and the structure in those was kind of nice. It was a little more separated than what we are now. I was being taken through by their marketing person, so I really had no interaction with the staff. The room seemed to be on the outside, which was nice, but the social area was not that large, and it didn’t have a separate dining room. The feel is restrictive. They have daily activities.
