We toured Ahva Living of East Dubuque. It went well. It seems like a very clean and friendly place and family-oriented. They also have very spacious rooms with a full kitchen and bathroom. The staff was very friendly and polite. We did not have a meal there, but my brother had eaten there before. That food was fine. The place was very clean. It's winter so the outdoor space wasn't the loveliest right now but they had a courtyard and a place where they eat.

My mom moved into Ahva Living of East Dubuque. I think she's getting good attention to her care. They're doing everything they can to help her. My mom has a private room. They've been very accommodating. The rooms have a good amount of space. Everybody has a private bathroom. It's clean. They do art drawings and paintings. They take trips to Walmart. They have a hairdresser that comes in. When I've been over there, the nurse techs have been fixing my mom's hair and painting her fingernails. It seems like they're just being nice.

Our tour to Ahva Living of East Dubuque was good. We toured the memory care and the staff was good. They just didn't have a whole heck of a lot. It was more living than anything. They didn't have any gym, but they had a community room where they have activities, that kind of stuff. It was very clean. The bedroom size was fine. They provide shuttle service and they take the residents to movies and doctors' appointments.

Ahva Living of East Dubuque seemed to be very nice. My only concern was that I would travel with a scooter and it was going to involve me having to use an elevator quite a bit for me to get around in that facility. Also, they could use a few more signs as to where the entrance is for the people who aren't able to climb steps. The front door has steps and I stood there a while thinking, "How am I getting into this place?" Then I finally realized that I had to go down a hill and around a corner to get in. Some kind of signage would have been useful there. I went to tour the memory care and the people there were wonderful.

It is assisted living, and they have a memory care unit as well. It is unlike any nursing home because it doesn't even feel like a nursing home. It is very welcoming. They converted an old school house building, and they built on to it. So all of the old classrooms before are now apartments. The staff is excellent and top notch. We could not have found a better place for mom. They are involved especially in the memory care unit where my mother is placed; they are just excellent. They are like family to us already. You don't feel like you are going in to a nursing home; it is more like going to an apartment building. We have told mom that this is her apartment, and it has gone well with her. When they take them out for any kind of activity, the memory care unit residents have their own personal aide. I couldn't be happier. It is a God send.
