We toured The Renaissance Senior Living. Everything was very clean. The staff was all happy and smiling. Everyone seemed to enjoy their jobs. They were all very kind. We got a full tour. The amenities are nice there. The rooms are good sizes. Each room has its own bathroom and closet. They were very spacious. Each room had its own AC unit. All the showers are handicapped, so they all have benches and stuff in there already. They all have emergency calls, too, in case there are any issues. The memory care facility was locked, too, so the residents couldn't just leave, so that part was nice, too. The staff who toured us was the director. Her name was Jackie. She was great. She answered all our questions. She was very honest. She let us look at each different room. She showed us all the different layouts, and she was wonderful. We didn't try the food, but we did see the pictures and whatnot. They have a private chef onsite who cooks all the food, and all the residents said that the food was great.

My husband is at The Renaissance Senior Living. It's a lovely place in Due West. It is set in the country, which is what my husband is used to because we're from Connecticut. It's just way too expensive. It's been excellent. The people have been very kind and caring for him. He has dementia and stage four kidney disease and they have been very in tune with what he needs. They've been very kind, very caring, and providing him with stimulating activities every day. They also have cognitive therapy that he gets. They've been more than helpful compared to other places. They have very nice grounds that he can walk on, which is what he loves to do. It's a very cozy place. They take them out weekly to either The Dollar Store or Walmart or things like that and they love it. It's across the street from Erskine College, so there are people around. It's an excellent setting the way they have it done. Although it's not as big as other places, it's 120 beds. They've just been more than kind and extremely helpful to me who is the caregiver. I can't say enough positive things about how kind they've been to me, which has made this so much easier. I have not tried the food, but my husband seems to be satisfied with it. It's very clean. He takes part in many more things than I thought he would. He seems to be able to get other people, like he loves doing puzzles, and he'll put them on a big table they provide for him, and then he'll ask if any of the people that just stay in their rooms all day long want to come down and help him and he gets them out of their rooms, so it's good for him. He feels like he's accomplishing something, which is actually how he's always been. He enjoys having other people do it with him. It's an excellent value. As far as what they charge, it is well worth it.

My in-laws moved into The Renaissance. They're in the little cottages. I think it's perfectly adequate for what they need right now, there are social events, they're on a little campus, so if there was a catastrophe, they would have access to help, they have food services available, and it's a very safe place. So those things are all good. The big thing for them was the price point, and it's very affordable because they're very frugal. So that was important to them. I know they have a lot of games and other activities that are so common to those places like cards and crafts. The staff is super friendly. They answer the phone, so, amazingly, a human being answers the phone. I would say that they're very accessible. When I called to ask a couple of questions more about technology issues so that I could help set my in-laws up, or using a computer, they could not have been more helpful and gave me the name and number of a person if my father-in-law had questions to contact this person and they just helped me set things up for them. That was more of a front desk person.

My sister moved into The Renaissance in Due West about 2 weeks ago. She's independent living. It is beautiful, it's decorated so nicely and it's just really pretty. The staff was excellent and very efficient. Everything about it is just great and we are very pleased. The people are very helpful and very friendly. They made my sister feel right at home. They have a lot of activities. They have a book club, a Bible study, and church on Sunday. They have exercise, a library, and a little wash area where they can wash their clothes. They say the rent is high, but it's worth every penny of it. She gets 3 meals a day, good and nourishing meals. She has a housekeeper that comes in once a week and thoroughly cleans the apartment for her. They also take the residents shopping. She just jumps right in there and is just enjoying it every day. It's expensive and she doesn't have much left in her check, but she doesn't need it because they give her everything that she needs and it's a lot cheaper than a nursing home. It's well worth every dime, I would say.

My mom was at The Renaissance in Due West for four months. It's a wonderful facility. Everything was good. The director of the facility is the one I could speak about the most. He went above and beyond. He helped us in a very trying situation with my mom, and he went a lot further than anyone would ever have needed to. He was wonderful; his name is Matthew. Her room was very comfortable. The food was good, and she didn't have any problems with it. The only reason we took her out was that it's actually a three-hour drive for me, and her heath had declined, so I needed to get her closer to me. It's very well maintained, the upkeep is good, and I don't have anything bad to say about them.

Renaissance has independent living homes, duplexes and condos - not independently owned. They also have a nursing home for those who need it. Three meals a day are provided; we have eaten there several times and the food and service are very good. My brother (who lives there) seems to enjoy it; there are quite a few activities you can participate. He lives in a condo-it is very small but he says it is big enough for him. It was one of very few places that he could afford but find nothing to complain about.

The Renaissance stands out to us because of its personal touch. The owner of the place lives there onsite. It is impeccably well-maintained too. I have seen nurses all over walking around the place. They also have activities where they take the residents out to go shopping, and they have events like guys night or girls night out where they go to restaurants and have dinner. They serve three meals a day. They have a huge array of food and you can choose to go to the line and make your own plate, or somebody can bring you your plate. Each of the rooms also has a small kitchenette, so if you choose to stay in your room and cook, you can. The room has a small refrigerator and a small kitchenette. The bathrooms are great too. There is a small church and a library onsite. It is very homey. Looking at all the tenants, everybody seems to be genuinely in a real good mood and looks very healthy. They also have two gym places. It seems they take a lot of pride in making sure their residents all have their independence, stay groomed, clean, and well fed. I really got a relaxed sense on all levels there. Today, that's my favorite place. They have everything from independent living to full care. It is probably the most affordable, but it is still very high.

The Renaissance's food was restaurant quality. The people were positive. One of the biggest attractions was it was right across the street from a small university, therefore you would have access to concerts and sporting games. There are also two large churches walkable. It had not only a residential dormitory building facility, but it also had single homes available. It had outdoor apartments around the big building, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms, and you could also have a dog. They had excursions and caring people. The price was also fantastic at half the price of the North Carolina facilities.
