Anthology of Denton was a good facility. It had a lot of greenery behind it. It was a good tour and the staff showed us different rooms. It was located right by all the stores that we're familiar with, so the location was perfect for us. They had a lot of activities and they took people out. They had certain days they went out. It was a hospitable place and it was clean. The rooms were nice, and they had 2-bedrooms. They didn't give you too much information there about costs and all that, but they emailed all the information. The floor plans and everything else, they emailed. The guy was very nice. The grounds were fine. They had a lot of parking space. They had everything there, but it wasn't a fit for us.

My father was in Anthology of Denton. I was extremely disappointed in them. They seemed to be out to get money more than they cared for the residents. They had activities, but they never bothered to try to engage my father or get him to do anything. He just sat in his room. One other thing about them, my father had two sinks. He had a little kitchenette, and he had a bathroom sink, and he had a shower as well, and his cold water all of a sudden jumped up to 117 degrees. And I know this because I went and got a meat thermometer to test it. I complained over and over and over from June until October, and they never got it fixed. Their fix for giving him cold water was giving him a bag of ice. And they blamed the City of Denton for it. I called the City of Denton and they said, 'No, that's not our problem, it's got to be something with their problem.' And I live in the city of Denton, and my water was not doing that. So my father had blazing hot water when he tried to take a shower, and he could not get a drink. He had a cat, and we could not give the cat cool water without having to ice it down, and they did not care. They did nothing to fix it. My father was there for a year and two months, so 14 months. He was in assisted living. When they tried to raise this rate, they said that he needed memory care. So I took him to several doctors and got him re-evaluated, and all of the doctors said he hasn't changed. And when we moved him to the other place, they evaluated him, and they said he was not quite in need of memory care. So it was purely a money thing where they were trying to force me to put my father into memory care. The young workers there, the ones that dealt with him on a day-to-day basis, were great. But when I was down the hall, I could hear the director of nursing screaming at the residents in the kitchen telling them, 'You haven't finished your dinner, you need to sit back down!' I was hung up on by Keith, one of their new directors. When I was complaining about the water, he hung up on me, even though I wasn't raising my voice. I was complaining, but he hung up on me. So there are two members of their directory staff that I was seriously disappointed in. The college students that took care of my father were great, but the directors were the opposite of great. Also, the facility was clean and beautiful, but the water became an issue. I had requested that my father not be allowed to leave with anyone but myself. And Anthology lost him one day and they called me and said, 'Do you have your father?' And I said, 'No, I do not have my father.' He was missing for four hours and we had to put out a Silver Alert. And he had left with a friend who didn't know the system, and nobody bothered to stop them as they walked out the door. So he was missing for 4 hours, and we had no idea where he was, and he didn't have his phone. So that's another thing I have against Anthology, and their excuse was, 'Well, we're not a jail. We don't keep him in here.'

I toured Anthology of Denton. Wayne was really helpful. He gave a great tour, answered all of our questions, and was very knowledgeable. I felt like the layout really fit what we were looking for for my grandma. They have three courtyards and the room that she's getting looks out onto one of them. It's very beautiful. I was really impressed by the number of nurses that they have available. My grandma has some health issues, so we were looking for a place that would be able to accommodate that and somewhere we thought would be best for her.

We liked the Anthology of Denton very much. We liked everything about it. We needed a two-bedroom and they didn't have a two-bedroom, so Wayne put us on a waiting list. It was very clean, very updated, very spacious, well lit, and laid out very well. There were lots of different activity rooms that we noticed and they had a physical fitness room. Even though we did not get to tour a two-bedroom, we did tour a one-bedroom and we liked it very much. The bathrooms were very large. The one-bedroom only had one bathroom, but we saw a floor plan for a two-bedroom and it had two bathrooms and the bathrooms were very large. The kitchen was very nice, and we really were impressed with how everything was laid out. The dining room looked nice and we got to read about the menus and they sounded good. We felt like that was a good match for us if we decided that we wanted to do that. Wayne, the man who helped us, said that he would put us on a waiting list for a two-bedroom under no obligation. We did go to an information gathering back in early March, and they had refreshments and they introduced the chefs. The refreshments were delicious. That's the food that we sampled and that was party food but it was good. The dining area was well lit and had small tables. It's just a typical dining room. I don't remember anything outstanding, but it was nice. It looked very clean, and that's important. The room had a living area, a kitchenette, one bedroom, a very large bath, it was handicap accessible, and the windows were nice and big. It was well lit, very clean, and very nice. They take people out to eat periodically, groups that want to go, and they have transportation to doctors' appointments if it's on a certain day. There are natural restrictions to that. They will even take a patient to the doctor and the family can meet them there at the doctor's office. I thought that was very convenient. They have happy hour periodically with music, refreshments, and beverages. They have art. They even have a theater room, and that's where they have church services and they have music going. A video was playing with people singing and there were a couple of residents there observing that. I was impressed. They have an inpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy program. It's in addition to the rent, but if a resident needed physical therapy, you wouldn't have to transport him to another location. Somebody right there in Anthology would be able to come in or the resident would go to the physical fitness center for physical therapy. I thought that was very convenient and that appealed to us. It looked as if the facility had been well taken care of, had been updated, and was very clean. The one-bedroom apartment was spotless. Everything was very clean and looked very sanitized. Everybody we met was very nice. Wayne was the one who was in charge of marketing and taking us on tours. Everybody that we encountered was very nice. We did meet the activities director and my husband is a singer and performer, and they had a nice discussion in the hall about how he could perform at the activities periodically. She seemed very organized. We were very happy with it. We could see ourselves living there if we decided that's what we needed to do.

My mother has been in here for some time and we've seen a decline in the staff over the last 2 years, sometimes there is no staff at all when she calls for assistance. The facilities are nice but noisy, the cost is above average. The biggest problem we have is with the senior staff- often rude and unhelpful, my mother has heard them arguing with residents there at times . While the aide people are usually very good, they don't stay very long which is also worrisome. The facilities are actually nice and they have great food usually but they seriously need to work on the staffing shortage issues and the senior staff.

Anthology of Denton is very clean, and it is brand new. I wasn't impressed with the woman that took me around. I don't even know what her position was, but she may not have been the person to do that. The facility was big; I was tired of walking to get to a room to look at. It hadn't been cleaned, it hadn't been painted, and it was a big mess, but she wanted to show it to me because it had a balcony. Its balcony is not a balcony, it's just a place to put up a lawn chair. That just turned me off. My mother is a small country girl, so she doesn't like big things and she doesn't want to be around a lot of people. I don't think she'll be really happy there. It was just too big and too new. You don't know how things are going to go and if they've got their act together. They have already changed hands since they're built. They had a movie theater and a beauty salon. I think they all have the same thing. They had a big lobby area. I didn't see any people there. Everybody seemed to be in their room. It just didn't come off as a good vibe.
