The Missouri town that is now known as Crane was once called Hickory Grove. In the 1880s, this town had a group of homes, a couple of general stores, a mill and a blacksmith shop. The name was changed when residents asked for a post office, only to find out that another Missouri town went by the name Hickory Grove. At that time, the name was changed to Crane, the name of the creek that runs through the town. Today, Crane has just 1,500 residents, over 20% of whom are seniors. Â
