Prairie House Assisted Living and Memory Care

My father moved to Prairie House Assisted Living and Memory Care. The nurses and aides have been tremendous. He is progressing with his dementia and sometimes he is a little combative, but they have worked with him on that and I appreciate it. I like the facility. It's very nice and it doesn't appear to be like a regular nursing home because that's not what he would have wanted. The food seems to be good. He eats well. I make different requests from them and they have worked with me on that. The location is good. So far I think my father's care has been well. It was good. He had a little spot and they immediately let the doctor know. He came and prescribed an antibiotic so that he could get well. I like the fact that two different doctors are available that they use and they have a registered nurse there 24/7. Not the same person, but they rotate with the registered nurses. I like the idea that someone is there just in case she's needed. He is being cared for and it seems like his health is an important subject that they keep on top of. They also give them snacks during the day and that's good because that was kind of like what my dad was used to at home. They maintain the facility very well and it's very welcoming. The activities director has moved on so they are in search of an activity director and I know there haven't been quite as many activities as usual. Any type of care like this is extremely expensive, but I know he is all-inclusive. Everything that they do for him is included. His laundry, his care, and everything. I know some places are not like that, but I like it to be all-inclusive like that. Then whenever you break it down the cost per day, it's less than several of the places I checked into.

My loved one was only there a short time. We noticed she was being left in filth, which was shocking because she could still go to bathroom with help. She had horrible bruises, even her feet, which raised red flags because she couldn’t walk, so it wasn’t from falling. She said she was being thrown around and yelled at to just go to bathroom in briefs. That explained the filth and bruising, this was brought to attention of Director and Corporate. The person she named is still there. We were out of there.

My mother-in-law will be moving into Prairie House Assisted Living and Memory Care. It seemed clean and friendly and they tried to engage their residents in activities. I toured a couple of different rooms, and they were good. The only thing that I noticed as far as negative wise, was the memory care unit smelled of urine. The staff was very accommodating. The dining area was clean and looked adequate.

We moved my mom into Prarie House Assisted Living and Memory Care in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. When we first toured the place, we saw their assisted living area first (which is really, really nice). I wish we would have found it three and a half years ago when we had moved our parents into assisted living at another place. I was really impressed with assisted living. It was very nice. I love their activities director and all the stuff that she had for the residents to do. They had a little dog park for the residents. They had a practically a full-scale gym with equipment classes and all kinds of stuff. They have a nice little courtyard. The hospital is right next door; you can throw a rock at it. I really didn't get to see the rooms. There was a common area where you can come to have an open bar. You can walk and have a couple of beers. The building has a big fireplace and an actual bar with a big screen TV. You get at least two complimentary drinks. They have a beauty salon and a spa. You can have an exam room for visiting doctors or nurses if you need to. The place really looks like a lodge. It is sort of like if you went to the lakefront lodge or a mountain lodge, you see a fireplace and a bar. We could just look into the dining room. We were not able to eat there. We were being escorted, and we had this distance from all the residents for safety. They did say that once we were allowed to have a visit with mom out of her room, we could bring her into the restaurant in the assisted living area and eat with her there. It's almost like we're taking her out to dinner at a nice restaurant. It seems like they're the ones that had a chef that had worked with Chef Morimoto from Iron Chef. It's a really big deal, especially for Japanese food.

Prairie House Assisted Living and Memory Care was very nice. It was located right across my mom's church which was an attraction because she knew some people who were there and they also seemed to have the overall picture and healthcare was important to them. It was an extremely nice atmosphere. They did artwork and I was impressed by that. They had a movie theater. The place was much newer and they had thought of everything. It's a little more modern than I would usually go for.

I had the great joy of visiting Prairie House this weekend. It is absolutely beautiful and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. My highlight was talking with the residents and hearing about how much they enjoyed the activities and the fantastic food.
