We didn't like the idea that The Wellington at North Bend Crossing has multiple levels. It felt too much like a hotel versus a residential facility. The whole entryway and everything just felt like a place to visit and not a place to live. You felt kind of like you were on vacation somewhere. The woman that I met there was informative. However, I was not happy with the way she answered one of the questions. It was one of the most important questions. The question I asked was if my friend goes in as independent living, how will they assess if she needs assisted living? The answer she gave was they don't. If we tell them she's independent, that's how they treat her, and she didn't expand on that at all and that alarmed me because if someone's going into a senior living place as independent (this woman is 93 years old, so she's on decline and at some point she will go from independent to assisted) and to think that nobody there is going to be assessing those needs or change of needs, was a major red flag. When I got a follow-up phone call from somebody at The Wellington at North Bend Crossing, I addressed that issue with them and she said, "No. That's not accurate. We do keep an eye on our residents and some of the ways we monitor them is we make sure that they're showing up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If they're not showing up to those things, we check in on them and things like that." So I was like, "OK." I was a little bit more satisfied with that answer, but the fact that I got two separate answers from people in that place, told me that they're not on the same page and that is a concern for me. The apartments looked nice. They were clean and nice-sized. Again, we did not like the idea of it being multiple floors and having to use elevators because our big concern would be what happens in the event of a fire. How did they get all of these residents out of a building like that in a timely, safe fashion? My friend is not my mother, but I would not put my mother in a facility that has multiple floors like that, especially if she has a hard time walking or uses a walker. If she were perfectly capable of walking and had no trouble with that, then that would be different, but my friend has balance issues so she either uses a cane or a walker and that would not make me feel comfortable. I wouldn't put my own mother in that situation. So I would not put my friend in that situation either. Cleanliness seemed good. It's a little bit newer facility so that all seemed clean. There were no unpleasant smells or anything like that. So the facilities looked nice. The upkeep was good. The food was probably better. My friend had some soup, and she liked it. She ate more there. I think I had a burger or something and it was really good. So, the food was nice. The dining area wasn't as homey. It felt a little bit more open and had a little bit of a colder feel to it to me.

The Wellington at North Bend Crossing looked well-kept. The room that they had available that I could have rented, but I didn't want to, was nice. The rooms were pretty nice size. Appliances are available. They have a washer and dryer that you can use or you can bring your own. If you want them to do your linens, like your sheets and blankets, they would do that, at a cost. If you wanted to do your own personal stuff, you would have the washer and dryer in your unit, so that was a plus for me. They have a lot of activities. If you want them to take you to a restaurant, you can go or if you want to go to a supermarket, it's available. They have all kinds of fitness things. They have a game room, they have movies, and they have a chapel. They have everything. I like the people. They were very friendly and very nice. I know it's a sales pitch, but I felt more comfortable with them. Also, you don't need a contract. It's month-to-month. If you decide that you don't like it, you can move out. I tried the food and I thought it was very nice. They have a menu that you can choose from. For lunch, you can have sandwiches or you can have a full meal, whatever your choice is. There are two meals a day. They did have breakfast, but that was not included. That did not interest me because I could always make a bowl of cereal, which I usually eat anywhere, or toast. The staff I met was very friendly. The facility was excellent. The landscaping was nice. The inside was nice and very well-kept. The furniture looked new to me and they had a lot of lounge areas, like one on each floor that you could use instead of going downstairs. I thought it was very well kept.

I was impressed with The Wellington at North Bend Crossing. I liked it. It came down to the price between the two places plus The Wellington at the time did not have a two-bedroom available. The grounds were very nice, very well kept, and very well manicured. The apartment was very nice. The staff was very friendly. The dining area was very comfortable looking. They have a lot of activities and parties. They had an opening day party for the Reds. They have a St Patrick's Party, they have games, and they have people get-togethers. They also have a Friday night happy hour type thing. Those were just some of the things that the staff highlighted.

The Wellington at North Bend Crossing had small bedrooms. They only had ten (at the most) two-bedroom apartments. We looked at a one-bedroom, and it would have been adequate for one person, but not for two. The staff was very good and very honest. The accommodations were modernized, bright, and cheery. I liked the atmosphere there. The kitchen was a full kitchen, but the room was really small. You couldn't sit in it and eat in it. You had to put your table over in the patio room or something. They had an exercise room, a big cafeteria seating area, and a meeting area. They had a hairdresser who did your hair. They had a beauty shop there. They had assigned parking spots. It was a very nice facility, cheery, and light. It just didn't meet our needs. We needed more space.
