I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
Indianspring of Oakley was horrible. The layout wasn't too bad, but they had so many residents in one area that I couldn't see how they could take care of all of them effectively. It seemed like they put them all in one big gathering area to sit there, and they're so bored out of their heads. They have one little activity room with puzzles. They were really excited because they got one my friends to sit in there, but she didn't do anything. My friends stayed in their same clothes for five days. They didn't take them off to sleep nor take them off, period. That's a little much. They smelled and were dirty. It didn't seem like a very caring place, and they just seemed to do what they had to do and that was it.

We thought this place was progressive, with a school inside, and a policy to allow our pets to visit, etc. But it is a mess, which is a shame. Our loved one was supposed to be there for a week of rehabilitation after a stay in the hospital; he lasted one night, We settled him in on a Saturday night,, and his condition worsened on Sunday. There is no physician or RN on site on Sundays (something neither the hospital nor Indianspring told us about). So we had to call the Squad to come get him and take him back to the hospital. The EMTs were polite, compassionate, and professional, ignoring the screaming LPN who had been making the rounds handing out meds to the population, and who suddenly arrived in our loved one's room just as help arrived. (She wasn't happy the Squad had been called - patient needs come last, apparently.) A nightmare experience. The Aide, however, who was there Saturday as our loved one checked in, and was there Sunday holding his hand as he suffered terribly trying to get his breath, was a kind and caring soul. She was new and in training; I hope she is still there looking out for the elderly.

I visited this facility
I would not recommend Indianspring to anyone. They give out information saying that they are a lockdown facility but then they tell me personally that they are not. When I called them, they told me that they could accommodate my husband with his dementia and for some reason, all of the sudden, after the 19th day, they decided they couldn't accommodate him. It was a newer facility and the building itself was nice, their rooms were also nice; however, some of their employees were not too nice. They wouldn't give me any information underway just because I'm not my husband's power of attorney, but it said in their paperwork "power of attorney/next to kin" and I thought that was wrong because I'm his wife.
