Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg was really good. I like the one-bedroom apartment that we looked at and I liked the dining room. That was nice, and I liked where the menu was, and the big board that shows the menu every day. The only thing Mom didn't like about it. She didn't like the kitchenette area because there wasn't a lot of room on the countertop. All they had was a microwave and a little mini fridge. So she has to bring her coffee pot and all that. But all the meals are provided, three meals a day, and snacks. They have the outdoor front with all the rocking chairs, where a lot of the people were, and an outside setting. That was great. But there was no pool.

We toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg. It's a fabulous place. I can't say enough good things about the folks; they were wonderful. They might be overstaffed, but that's a good thing. They've got enough staff to take care of the residents in the community there, but they come with a price. They gave us a wonderful tour. I think my mom will just love all the different things that they have going on. The place was very clean. They were doing some remodelling as well. They really worked hard to try to accommodate us. They offered for us to stay for a meal, but mom was tired. Whatever they had cooking in the kitchen smelled good. They were growing their own spices, and everything was fresh.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg is an older place, but the people there are very good. They seem to have a bit of a turnover, mostly from the younger caregivers. Other caregivers are very good, while others are very average and need some help to care more. The location is excellent. It's very convenient to the main road where people can get to very easily. It has ample parking, too. My wife has a private room where we had put in a large bed, a nice chair, and a large enough chest of drawers for the TV. It is a decent-sized room. The bathroom is handicap-accessible with plenty of room to move around. I eat lunch with my wife every day, and the food is good.

I thought Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg was a very friendly situation for Roger, but it didn’t provide enough attention for him. He needed more frequent care. They had various activities, a theater room, and a little park area outside. The place was clean and didn’t have a bad odor like some communities. The staff was always friendly and positive in their attitude when we asked them about things. I was often in the dining room, and the food smelled and looked really good. I was quite impressed with the food options they offered. They went to a dining room with real silverware, dishes, glasses, table cloths, and pretty nice appointments.

Commonwealth is very nice place. I haven't lived at the assisted living, but I have lived in the independent living in their other place over at Radford. Then I found this house available for rent so I moved. I really like it. It is an attached house where I have three bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining area, and a living room. It is a very nice and very lovely home. I have a gas fireplace and a sunroom. There is no outside care because it is taken care of for us. Last night they had the Blacksburg Community Orchestra there and had an ice cream social. Before the concert, they had hors d'oeuvres, and that was quite nice. The help are very nice people, but they don't seem to be extremely well trained. I believe they can be better trained. They do have transportation to different places like to doctors if you need it.
