Staff is great and helpful with arranging care and transportation of necessary. Transition from rehab after hospital stay to Assisted living was very smooth. Entire building is being updated and remodeled. Park is across the street. Shopping and food a few blocks away.

I visited this facility

Paul House & Health Care Center looks like it was very nice, and it was big. The problem was they were too expensive. They came in over $10,000 for semi-private ,and that was too much. Otherwise, I would have been comfortable putting my mother there. I saw their therapy area, it certainly looked like they had everything that she would need. I like the person who gave us the tour. Before we did the tour, we sat down and talked to her. She wanted to know more about my mother and explained what the benefits were from Paul House. The rooms were nice. They had big rooms, where they had groupings or you could get out of your room and go sit in a nice area. They had a nice dining room. They said they had activities for the residents, but I didn't see a schedule or anything. They had a garden where the residents could go out when the weather was nice. The person who gave us the tour was very qualified. She was very good, so I was impressed with them. She really took her time. She told us all about the place and how it works with the residents. One thing is, they had a very small parking lot. It meant you had a park on the street, which in Chicago is no small feat. It was a turnoff as well. It was a very small parking lot. It almost looks like it's just staff parking.

I visited this facility

St Paul's House was just fine. It was too close to a busy street; it worried me. From what I saw, it seemed clean. The rooms were fine, too. They each had a bathroom. The dining room looked fine. I think the staff was very helpful, very patient, very friendly, and gave us a lot of time to ask questions. They had some activities. They had a room where some people were playing cards and some were doing some crafts.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother was in rehab at St. Paul's. The staff and the care service were fair. They're cordial. Some of them were attentive. They were very good about keeping the rooms clean. The rooms though were small. Food was very good. The selection seemed really nice. In terms of ambience, it was nice. There's no problem regarding the smell. They even have a chapel there. Also they have activities for their patients. They would take them on tours if the patients are able to.

I visited this facility

St. Paul's has been providing long term care for many decades, originally as part of a service for Catholic sisters. The urban campus is located in a pleasant and safe northside neighborhood where street parking is usually easy to find nearby. The community at St. Paul's includes not only the Health Care Center, which this review speaks to, but also assisted living apartments. The Health Care Center has expanded and undergone additions and remodeling efforts in recent years. The newest area used for short term rehab is positively lovely, with upscale features and furnishings and larger rooms than the older section. The rehab program is well regarded in the professional community as is the long term care. The older area of the health care center includes modest sized common areas on the care floors which are used for meals and activities. Residents can also utilize the larger common areas on the main level that include a large dining room, a spacious and warmly decorated lobby, and a chapel. The older section of the Health Care Center has rooms that are average to smaller than average in size. Most are shared though some privates are available. The food at St. Paul's is good and seemingly above average with rarely a bad meal. Staffing turnover here seems below average for a facility of this type and locations, with many direct care and administrative staff that are long term employees. Clearly a mission driven organization, the commitment to compassionate and resident centered care is apparent and evidenced by most direct care staff, most of the time.
