I visited this facility

We looked at Heron Point of Chestertown which is a continuing care community. It has cottages, assisted living apartments, and a full memory care unit on site. So it's full scale. They have benches by the river, they have outdoor seating and many of the cottages have their own decks and porches. The apartments all have decks or balconies. The grounds are very well-landscaped, it's beautiful with walking paths, and it's walking distance to a small rural historical colonial town. The person who showed me around during the tour was energetic and knowledgeable. The rooms have appliances including a washer and dryer. They have a swimming pool and gym, they have exercise classes, clubs, and a library. So there's a lot to do. It's a very active population.

I visited this facility

Heron Point was well kept. It was small. I didn't like it at all. The hallways were a little dark. The staff was very nice. There wasn't anything wrong with this facility; however, we weren't really looking for assisted living. The other thing about this place was that they had a set menu, so you really don't have a choice.

I visited this facility

Heron Point is in a much nicer location, and it is larger with more cottages. It was in a lovely, quiet location. The food there is excellent, and we’ve eaten there twice. It was pricier. The apartments and cottages are wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandparents moved into this facility about 5 years ago, and have had a wonderful experience with them. I can see why when I make my visits a couple times a year. The staff is very friendly to everyone and happy to meet and accommodate for visitors. My grandparents own two pets: a cat and a dog, and they are able to keep both with out any problems. When my grandmother walks the dog to the "big house" (the main building), the employees greet the sheltie with a treat and talk to my grandmother. The houses and facilities are great, they have a chef that cooks nice food, and it is clear when I visit that everyone is happy to live there. The residents are also very friendly. I always enjoy visiting to see the friends I have made over the years. I feel so welcome when I go to Heron Point, and I don't think anyone would ever feel differently. I can't see myself ever living in a retirement community in the future, however, I would be happy to stay at a place like Heron Point!

I visited this facility

This facility had a very warm atmosphere. The staff seemed to generally care about the residents and they were very helpful to everyone who visited. I talked to other members other than my immediate relative when I visited and they were quite happy with their position; they definitely enjoyed where they were. The rooms were spacious, providing plenty of room for the residents to keep favorite belongings from their homes. All in all the place left a great impression on me after my visit. I would highly recommend it to any one who is considering assisted living for a loved one.

I visited this facility

I visited this facility several times with my school to give holiday performances for the residents. The facility was very large, and seemed to be very luxurious and ornately decorated. There seemed to be a large, attentive staff, and all of the residents seemed to be in good spirits. The place really reminded me more of a mansion than an assisted living facility. I am sure the residents paid a fairly hefty sum to live in the facility, but from what I saw they definitely got what they paid for. Everything was very clean and well kept. There was evidence of several other school groups visiting the facility as well, so it seemed like the residents had a steady stream of visitors. I visited several other Assisted Living facilities in the area with my school group, and Heron Point was by far the most impressive.

The location is beautiful and the facility and its ambiance is refined. There are a good amount of things to do--gardening, indoor pool, fitness center. The food at the Skipjack Cafe is pretty good, and the nature trails are peaceful. There are some functions throughout the year, such as a gingerbread house display, which is great for visitors and townies to come and see. The library is great. The only problem is the pricing, but then, there are quite a fair of bonuses to living here. The help is generally good, but may vary from time to time. Pets are also allowed, which is fantastic.
