I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Waterford Ladies Home. We chose it because of the size of it, the condition it was in, it doesn't smell like a care facility, and the overall atmosphere of the home. The staff is very caring, and they make it homey just how they are. So far, so good. Everything's homemade, so the food is good. They take care of everything that she needs taken care of. She's got diabetes and they've got a podiatrist that comes in every month to take care of their feet and their toenails. They've got a beauty salon to take care of their hair, and the overall cost is just very reasonable and good for what you're getting.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your kind words Cheryl. We are particularly proud of our staff, they are the ones that make the difference.

I visited this facility

We saw the Waterford Ladies Home. I liked that it had a really warm and cozy feeling, it's small enough that it felt more like family and not institutional. It was the most expensive place I've toured. The staff were very helpful, warm, and informative. I saw the food being prepared as we were touring and it looked very good. The room that I saw was tiny. They had a very nice courtyard there, and it's located close to everything.

I visited this facility

We toured Waterford Ladies Home. From what I could gather, the setting was very good. The location was nice. Everything looked like it was very well kept. There were studio-type rooms which were small in comparison to some. From my conversation with them, they would not be able to give full assistance. They are more geared toward somewhat more independent living, even though meals are provided. If you wanted more assistance to take showers and things of that nature, they would take care of that. But I don't think they would help them get dressed and that sort of thing. They want their ladies to be more independent. It sounded as though they had a variety of menu items, but I couldn't say anything about the quality. The lady who gave me the tour had been there for several years, so she was well invested in the facility. She seemed to care for those who were there and seemed to be engaged with them. I felt fairly positive about that. The only thing I could say about negatively would be that I thought that it was a little bit cramped. Like the eating areas as well as the rooms, everything was kind of on a smaller scale. It's not a large population, it's relatively a small facility. I'm sure it is adequate for the population that they have, but I felt it was cramped.

I visited this facility

Waterford Ladies Home is very homey. I met with Jen (the administrator), and she was really knowledgeable and very accommodating. It was a good experience. I'm not sure it's the right fit for my mom, but I felt like it's a really great facility. It's a terrific facility. I saw three different rooms, and they were all really lovely. Most of the staff has been there a long time, which is great. I would recommend it. It seems clean and safe, which both are extremely important. The staff was very friendly. It was a good experience. The dining area was set up. It was bright, cheerful, very sunny, and looked very comfortable. It looked like a nice place to be. They have a nice outdoor patio for the residents, which is a great place for families to visit. They have activities. They have been altered due to COVID. I did see a puzzle area that was set up, and there was a library area. There's an activities director that does stretching exercises with the residents. The facility is old and needs a facelift, and that's what the administrator admitted that it needs too. But other than that, I felt like everything else was right as it should be. The staff was fantastic. The resident's rooms were very nice and very homey. The whole place is old. It's old carpet, old paint, and old molding. It's all maintained and kept in good condition. Other than just needing like a facelift, I didn't see anything that looked really rundown or unsafe. It looked very nice.

Provider Response

Thank you Marcy for your response. I totally agree with your assessment of the facility. I am fortunate to have such a great and loyal staff. Not many facilities have the such dedicated staff members. Most of the key members have been with us for years. We have a remodeling plan in place and are taking it room by room, and have a $4-5000 monthly budget for this purpose and in a few weeks hope to have a much better presentation which will be presented in our soon to be released virtual tour.

I visited this facility

We visited Waterford Ladies Home for my mom and the visit was fine. My mom falls occasionally and they are not equipped to handle that. There were no lifts in the facility. It was nice and clean and the staff seemed pleasant and informative. The rooms we visited were all being used for storage or something temporary, so we didn't get a feel for what it would look like as a living facility for my mom. It was in a good location and it has easy access. We just walked through there. That's all we did.

Provider Response

Unfortunately we were in the process of remodeling rooms and as a result we had to move furniture in vacant rooms. During the process we rented rooms as quickly as we finished them and had a hard time keeping up with the demand. We now have the remodeling almost completely done-I really should't say that as you never get done refreshing your facility. New front entry doors are on order and will greatly enhance the curb appeal. Concerning the lifts, it sounds like you should seek out a nursing home. We've been in business 35 years and it's been my experience that occasional falls soon become more frequent, and unless a medication change is the culprit, you should seek out a nursing home which has lifts available. I know this is not what you want to hear but I"m just being honest. If there is anything we can do to help you in the future, or if your mom's health improves please give us a call and good luck with your search. I know its a stressful journey.

I visited this facility

I visited Waterford Ladies Home. The buildings were older, but seemed pretty nice. The rooms were just fine, adequate I guess, you had a space just for one. I got a brochure with rates and stuff, activities, and things like that. I did see residents. They were just playing bingo, or getting set up to do that ... I think. I looked outside, I visited a couple of decks, but I didn't go outside, or they have a patio? I forget which.

We were not impressed with Waterford Ladies Home. It was nice and there were two dining rooms, but what turned us off about it was the price. The big disappointment was when the lady who was giving us the interview was kind of rude to this resident, who you can tell had dementia. She said, "Let's not scare them away. Go on over there," and she kind of shunned her. You don't do that to people with dementia. They need to get somebody new there and they need to train them on how to deal with people with dementia because you have to have patience and kindness when working with these people.
