My husband has been at Stonecroft, but they're going to kick him out tomorrow. I've had them send papers to another facility, but I don't know yet what's going to happen with that. They've been very unsatisfactory, it's been poor. They're telling me that he needs 24/7 care, which was what I was giving him at home. I know that they're understaffed though, so until they hire more people they're not going to live up to their potential. He's not able to be in assisted living, and they have not put him in the memory care section either. They have a designated memory care unit, but that's not what he's in. I don't know what they call it, I guess just general nursing. I fell out of bed yesterday reaching for something, so I can't go to him. I've been making it a point to visit him for two hours every day, because I felt that I had to advocate for him. He's also blind in addition to everything else, which put us at a tremendous disadvantage. They have not been dealing with him, because when you have dementia you can't choose what kind of personality you develop. They basically want people who are docile and very easy to care for, and that's not the form his dementia has taken. He has outbursts sometimes and he gets angry, and that's the way it is; that's the way he was at home. There's been a lot of trouble with his diet. I got to say that the PT, the OT, and the speech therapist have really tried to do their best with him, but I also found out they don't work for Stonecroft. They work for a different agency, and they've all been very good. The aides have been very good too, they work really hard, and they run themselves ragged trying to care for the residents there. The people who do the most get paid the least. They're really striving to do the best they can, but I'm very disappointed with the nurses, except for the nurse practitioner. My husband fell out of bed several times, and with one exception, they didn't even call me. I just walked in and he had this terrible black eye and nobody even called me. They've just not given me any information whatsoever. I was told that they were one of the better places and I was very very dissatisfied. I understand that the main problem is they're understaffed. I know there's no perfect place, and I know that he's not an easy patient from taking care of him for so long myself, but it's not going to get better unless they put more money into staffing. He lost four teeth before he got there, so he's basically chewing on one side, and it's difficult for the speech therapist who's working very hard on his diet, trying to get them to give him a diet that he can work with. I'd say the quality of food is OK though.
