I stayed in rehab for 3 weeks (March 2023) after ankle/foot surgery. That meant I was wheelchair bound the whole time as I did not have enough strength to use a walker with one foot & leg because my hands & wrists are weak with arthritis. I was treated so amazingly & kind. I was responded to quickly if I had a need. The food was very good & plentiful. In fact, I was afraid I would weigh more when I got home. My room was good size. The bathroom was okay but it would have been nice to have handicap accessible there. That was the only negative. I loved my view out the window because I was in an L shape area so got to see lovely landscaping & the grass. The PT & OT was very useful, the therapists were knowledgeable & taught me so much. I enjoyed the large therapy room because we had laughing & smiling going on with the staff & residents. I felt at home & never lonely. We had a Mardi Gras party which was so much fun with great snacks, music, & games. The activities room was decked out in colorful Mardi Gras decorations. Although it’s (hopefully) a long time until I might need to have further services where it would be permanent for me, my husband & I’ve talked about the independent apartments which are in a lovely wooded area. It’s so peaceful on the grounds. I could imagine being on the porch having morning coffee. I recommend this place 100%.

Oaks on Parkwood was nice, but it was too large for my mother. The grounds were nice, and the room was nice. The staff was very friendly and nice. The dining area was nice. When I visited, they weren't doing anything. The assisted living people were going out to the store. They had a library. They had outings for the assisted living, not memory care, but they had activities. I tried the food, and it was OK. It was what I would expect a senior person to get.

I liked Oaks on Parkwood because it would be close to my son. We looked at a studio apartment that had a bay window in it, which made the room seem so much bigger than just the actual size of it and I love bay windows. I loved that they had a bird feeder outside so I could see the birds and watch them. They have all the appliances in them. There's a stove, a refrigerator, a microwave, a washer-dryer, a water heater, and everything you need, but you have to pay for your own TV. The staff that took us around was caring, outgoing, and willing to work with you. Their kindness was just tremendous. People liked to decorate the outside of their rooms and pets were allowed. You could plant flowers in the flower beds by your apartment if you wanted to. They have a swimming pool that's not deep and they have a gym where you can sit in with an instructor or you can do your own thing.

My mother-in-law went to Oaks on Parkwood. She has been there for three weeks now. She's very happy there. She's been very welcomed and very happy. Her room is nice, and she's got enough room to be happy and be comfortable. It's in excellent shape. She has nothing but praise for all the staff. She's been very complimentary of all of them. She said the food was better than what she had previously in other facilities. It's a beautiful campus. They have a pool that she could use if she would, and they have lots of sidewalks and everything that she could get out and walk when the weather cools off. They have bingo and singing, and they have a movie room. She's an avid reader, and they have a nice library.

We went to the Oaks on Parkwood. The experience was excellent, the place was very clean and neat. What we liked about them is you have 12 apartments in a building, with six buildings in independent living. So you have your own apartment, it's got its own bedroom, living room, bathroom, and you have a half bath for guests who are visiting. In each of these buildings, there's a center area where the people in these apartments eat lunch every day. They have other activities and things to do there. In the main building on campus, on Wednesday morning they have breakfast where people from all six of those buildings plus all the garden homes come up there and eat breakfast together on Wednesday morning. They have a pool, they do water aerobics there, they have a workout center, they have a community activity, arts and crafts, music. My aunt only likes to eat organic food. This place has a full kitchen in the apartment, and she can cook her own breakfast and dinner. She liked that part of the independent side of it. She wouldn't have to change her eating habits. They also take them to doctor's appointments.

My wife is at The Oaks on Parkwood. She's been under quarantine and now COVID just got it locked down for a while. Their quarantine days are not up either. Because of COVID, I could only get as far as the door. I could not see the facility. She has a cell phone and I can go and see her through her window and talk with her on the cell phone. This past week the food service for two nights was terrible. She got supper at 7:15 and at 8:20, and by the time she got the food it wasn't warm. They said they are short staffed, but that's no excuse for the service there. I let them know yesterday about that and the food service especially. My wife had called me and complained about it, and I called some people to let them know that I was not pleased. The first four or five days they were fine, but the food service just last week was terrible. The staff is not very good. My wife has some special needs that haven't been attended to properly. She had chronic diarrhea and they had been treating her with some medication that made the diarrhea worse. Before we went in, I gave it high marks, but the food service needs to be better than it is.
