My mother-in-law has moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville. I like the community. The people seem nice and caring. She has a nice room. They have walk-in showers. You furnish the room yourself. They seem to be caring and concerned about their residents. They have arts and crafts, and an activity room, and they have different kinds of activities there. It's not near restaurants or anything like that. It's pretty country. They have field trips.

I visited this facility

I toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville, and I was thoroughly impressed. It was clean. The staff was extremely helpful. The people that were living there all seemed happy and pleasant. I met quite a few of them. As we walked around, the person who was giving me the tour knew most of them by name, and they had conversations. They let me look at several rooms. Everything was clean, neat, and organized. The staff was very active and helpful. I felt very comfortable. If I needed to make a decision, I would have certainly put my uncle in that place. I noticed quite a few things. They had an activity schedule and they showed me some of the things. My uncle is not that social, so that to me wasn't a driving factor other than seeing that other people seemed to be enjoying themselves and had plenty of activities that they could participate in. I saw the schedule, I saw a couple of activities going on and I was very, very satisfied that these folks looked like they were having a good time. Plus, there were trips that were planned. I didn't think my uncle would be taking any of the trips, so I didn't dwell on those other amenities, but it was nice to know that they were there, and it was nice to see other people enjoying what they were involved in at the time I was visiting. I saw the menu and I saw what was available and what they were willing to provide my uncle if he were there. I spoke with the chef, and I was very satisfied with the options and the willingness to provide him with what he would find interesting for the menu. They were very flexible from the menu point of view. I also spoke with the physical therapist and another person, everyone I met was outstanding in my opinion. I didn't have much to compare it to, but they explained all the details and all the options. It seemed like a lot of money, but they all are. Based on my other research, Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville was certainly competitive and maybe even on the lower side of the cost. It looked to me like they could provide my uncle with whatever care he needed.

I visited this facility

I loved Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville when we toured it. My problem was with the nurse's evaluation. She decided that she needed to contact the corporate. Nobody from the corporate got back to her. I called down there several times to find out if my mother-in-law was going to be accepted and at 4:35, I was told, "No, we can't accept her. We don't have the staffing." which is not my problem. It's a staffing issue to take care of somebody that's total care, which my mother-in-law is. When they took us around, the salesperson even introduced me to her potential roommate who's in a wheelchair, but apparently can get herself in the wheelchair. My mother-in-law needed a Hoyer lift and they don't do that. If you were able to take care of yourself, the facility would be good, but if you're in the shape like she is then it's not. The director of sales was very good at what she does. I was very excited about the possibility of that working, but it didn't. If they had told us earlier, we could have made other arrangements.

Provider Response

Dear Kim, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am sorry to hear your experience did not fulfill your expectations. We understand that your primary concern is your mother-in-law’s well-being and regret that we are unable to accommodate her specific care needs. Please feel free to reach out to us should you have any questions or think we can help in any other way. Sincerely, Victoria Nelson, Executive Director

Commonwealth Senior living in Berryville does not provide personal care and hygiene for my mother. She wears the same clothes day after day and sits in urine and stool every day because she doesn't receive help in changing her brief. It's sad and disappointing to see a human being treated this way, a complete disregard for her care and dignity.

Provider Response

Dear Susan, thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m sorry to hear the care your mother received did not fulfill our expectations. Because improving the lives of seniors is the foundation of what we do, I would like the opportunity to speak with you in greater detail about your concerns. I visited this facility

I toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville. It was a very good experience. I was pleased. The units were very nice, but I think it would be too small for two people. My brother would like to have a little kitchen or kitchenette, and they didn't have that. It just wasn't set up that way. Everything was neat and clean. The people were nice. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice, and she was very knowledgeable. She's a great person. Even one of the little girls that takes care of coffee and the dining area, introduced herself to me. I thought that was so nice of her. We were talking about my brother loving coffee. She said if he came there, that she would certainly see to it that he had what he needed. She is very nice.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville appeared to be a nice, well-run facility. Everything was up-to-date and clean. They provided meals in a cafeteria, which was a large dining area with a cafeteria-type setting. They had small bedrooms/apartments where they could be by themselves or share with another member. The staff members that I talked to were very informative, and they presented themselves well and the facility well.

I visited this facility

I liked Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville because it had memory care and assisted living. It had a lot of activities, and the people there seemed to be happy. It was pretty clean. The only thing is that I asked them if they provide hospital beds, and they said no, and that was a turn off for me. The outside of it was very nice. It was beautiful with the landscaping, and everything was very nice.

Provider Response

Dear Cathy, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. Improving the lives of seniors and their families is our focus every day. We appreciate your feedback regarding the availability of hospital beds. While we don’t own hospital beds, we can certainly make recommendations for providers who can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly with questions. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best, Victoria Nelson Executive Director

I visited this facility

I visited Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville. They don't have what's called companion suite, so they either have a private suite or a shared suite. Their shared suite is two beds in one room. That's the biggest drawback for my family and my mom. A private suite is very expensive. A shared suite does not give you any privacy, you're sharing a room, and you have an actual roommate, and in companion suite you actually get to close the door for your bedroom. You might share the bathroom or a kitchenette, but you don't share your bedroom, and they're much more affordable. The facilities were nice. The staff was very pleasant and easy to work with. I would have to say though that the Commonwealth staff that I dealt with was borderline kind of pushy, but I know they're trying to get people in, and that's their job as salespeople.

Provider Response

Dear Timothy, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. At Commonwealth Senior Living, we work hard to improve the lives of seniors, their families, and each other. While many residents enjoy private suites, we have found that oftentimes having a roommate is beneficial for new residents to open up and develop lasting friendships. I would love the opportunity to speak with you in greater detail about your experience and how we can improve. Please feel free to reach out to me at your leisure. Kind regards, Victoria Nelson Executive Director

The room that my wife is in is decorated with her things just the way she wanted it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My wife enjoys all of the activities, i.e.; church, crafts. These activities help her each and everyday with her problems. I enjoy knowing that she is very well taken care of and she is happy and enjoys each day there. Thank you to all who are helping her. Thank you is not enough for all that you do for her.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville was pleasant. The person who assisted me during the visit was great, and she was very nice. I think her name was Shelby. The layout of the place seemed nice and comfortable.

Staff is not educated /trained to handle memory family members. Residents sit around all day staring at the tv and doing minimal activities. Food is decent. People are generally nice just not trained to handle these types of patients properly or with empathy. Upper management is task oriented not patient oriented from experience. There are better place available.

Provider Response

Dear kerremax1, Thank you for sharing your concerns. As you may know, this community was recently acquired by Commonwealth Senior Living. A large part of the changes that are coming to this community will be in our Sweet Memories neighborhood. All associates are scheduled for certified dementia practitioner training as well as Virtual Dementia Training to more thoroughly understand how it feels to struggle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. This transition will also include the implementation of our signature programs such as Special Touch, providing warm scented towels before mealtimes and Sweet Melodies, a positive music engagement program plus several others. I would love the opportunity to speak with you in greater detail about the changes that are coming and invite you to take a second look at our community. Please reach out to me at your convenience. I can be reached via email. Best, Derrick Mathis, Regional Vice President

Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville was nice. The price was a little higher than other places, but the staff I met was a five. They rooms were a five, but they also have a private bath, and they have a beauty shop and workout area. They have sufficient amenities. It was an older building, but it was well kept.

when we first came to Greenfield we were in a pinch. They were there to assist getting our mother into the facility but management was absolutely terrible. Staffing at that time was deplorable. After Commonwealth took over we noticed a huge improvement over management activities, staffing, and overall facility and care. The staff is great and they take good care of our mother. The situation is already difficult and Commonwealth has stepped to the plate in the transition to ensure our mother has the best care available. We are at a juncture where we need to move her and are sad to have to leave. The food is good, our mother is safe and cared for, and the facility is clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this facility.

I felt as though the residents were not nearly as active at this community. The room size was fine and the amenities seemed like they were standard, but I just was not comfortable with the condition of the residents. It's not that they weren't cared for, just that they were in a much more debilitated state than my uncle is. The staff seemed to be fine.

I saw a few rooms, and talked to the coordinator, who was very nice. I saw a 1-bedroom for two residents, and it was nice. They have very good customer service, they were willing to help me find what I was waiting for.

What impressed me was the selection of all-day activities they offered. I have a friend who has Parkinson's that resided there, and she was very satisfied with it. I liked the interaction, the game nights, and the different holiday celebrations. They did a painting class that she got involved in and really enjoyed. She had a private room and met a couple of girls that she got very close to who were very helpful and caring to her and treated her really well. They made her feel good while staying there, and she was very content. They had a nice communal dining room.

My mother is here. We are very pleased with all of them. We are very happy with our decision. The programs, the room, the diet, the staff, the location, the design, the appearance of the building and the cleanliness, all of it, we are very happy with. The staff stands out for me. They are very good.

We visited and the admissions lady was extremely good and very thorough. They had a nice kitchen area for the regular assisted living, and then they had one for the Alzheimer's unit. However, the Alzheimer's unit area was too small to accommodate the number of people they had. The room was like a sitting room and a kitchen together, but it was very small considering they had to sit in that area all the time. They seemed to have a pretty good program though and a couple of things going on there. They had adequate activities, but they did not have private rooms, and the room that two people would be in was very small.

It was very nice, very comfortable, and very interesting. The secure area was separated from the regular residents. The rooms were just a little bit smaller, but they were very nice and very clean. I think I met three or four of the staff, and they appeared to be very friendly.

They had a room available, and the staff is very good. It is nice, clean, and I think they are taking good care of him. He is having a lot of personal troubles with his confusion, but I think it’s less active. The room is modern and nice with a good view. There are a lot of activities, and he likes the food. He had some emergency, and they had been just terrific; they are very responsible, and you talked to him on the phone. I think the place is very clean and doesn’t smell like a nursing home. We are very happy with them.
