My Dad died in this facility last night after a week of terrible pain that they wouldn't treat until we dragged him to outside dr, who prescribed Tylenol w Codeine. They quickly switched him to a very low dose of Gabapetin. I have to wonder where the Tylenol w Codeine ended up. Did I mention that the first day he was there his oxygen machine broke and they couldn't find a back up? They had to order one from the company and encouraged us to bring his from home. The Social Worker and Physical Therapist were good, but obviously can't can't save everyone from a poorly run facility. Don't send your loved ones here!

The Village at Augsburg was a nice place, but the one-bedroom apartment that I saw was not big enough for me. They had everything, and they're really nice and very convenient. The layout was nice, too. They had a list of activities and a lot of community things going on.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I live at The Village At Augsburg. It's really nice. It's not as big as the other ones. I wanted a smaller place and not so many buildings. We have 11 buildings actually, but they're not real big. I know most of the people here, so it makes it nice. Every building is different as far as the rooms go, but they're very, very nice. The two-bedrooms are really nice. They have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, too. Some have studio apartments. I have a one-bedroom, but I have a dining area, a living room area, a kitchen, and one bathroom. The staff are very friendly. It's really pretty out here. We're surrounded by woods and trees. Every once in a while, we see a deer. It's really nice. They have a beauty parlor, and they have two beauticians here. They have an exercise room. We have all kinds of classes that you can attend, like yoga or exercise. We actually have an exercise room with equipment. We have people that need rehab. In other words, they need to exercise because their back hurts or whatever. If you give them a referral from your doctor, then they take care of you like two or three times a week for physical therapy.

One of the places I went to and I liked it very much in was called The Village At Augsburg. It was a lovely place. I liked everything about it. They had the three levels of living, so you wouldn't have to move out of that community. You might have to move to a different apartment, but you wouldn't have to leave the community. I like that. That means you don't have to find another location. The price all in all was probably reasonable. It was certainly very typical of what I found. It wasn't that they were so expensive, but it was out of my reach just a little teeny bit. The place was lovely. The common areas were very clean. Some of the people that I saw walking around seemed to be very friendly. It had a lot of positives about it. The size of the rooms was very good. They weren't huge, of course, but they weren't small. They were just right. I needed the extra room that a one-bedroom doesn't give you. I needed a den also. That's where my price goes up considerably, but I really need that one extra room. I do a lot of different crafts. I wouldn't want to give that up at this time. However, the sales lady I spoke to there was very helpful. She contacted me a couple times afterwards to see if we could work out an idea. I finally had to tell her, I just don't think I can afford their location at this time, only because I am looking for a bedroom and den. She followed up several times and was very helpful, and I really appreciated that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Last week, we placed my mom at Augsburg Lutheran Assisted Living, a skilled care facility. We just thought her needs were much greater than assisted living. This way she's able to get physical therapy and occupational therapy. There's also a doctor at the facility so it's just a better fit for her. We chose it because for one thing, we are Lutheran, so our church has a connection with the home. The ministers go and have church services there so it's like something we're familiar with anyway. They have a lot of services they're offering like physical therapy and occupational therapy. They have an activities coordinator and a doctor and a nurse practitioner on site. For a lot of those reasons, we selected it. I think it's a good value for the money so if people are considering a skilled nursing facility for a loved one, they really should consider it.

My father lives in the independent living section of the Village at Augsburg, and it's really nice -- the other two sections of it, not so much. The food is okay, but not great. The residents who live in independent living seemed to have a good rapport with one another. When he needs something in the apartment, for example, like if they need to come in and change the toilet seat, they do it very quickly, and they are good. The staff I have had contact with have been very good, too, but there are things that could be better. My father only does activities when there are people coming in to sing or do dancing. He is happy there. It has what you need, and the ratio of value to money is good.

I visited this facility

I went to Augsburg Village. It wasn't far from me, but I wasn't too thrilled with the facility. Their rates were exceptionally high. They have assisted living, nursing home care, and retirement living. In the assisted living area I was displeased because they needed to do some serious renovations and they were not very clean. There was an odor when you walked in, and a lot of the furnishings looked worn down.

My mother has been a resident of Augsburg Lutheran, and she's in their assisted living. I like the place. It's clean and doesn’t smell, everybody is caring, and the food looks and smells good. She has her own private room there. They have something going on every day of the month, and this Saturday they're having a Strawberry Festival. They'll have the kids down there, they'll be painting the kids' faces, and barbecuing. They also play scrabble, UNO, and they have spa days. They have something every day. The staff members are wonderful. They're patient, caring, and take the time to act like they're interested, so that's good. I haven't eaten the food, but it's presented in an appetizing way. They get breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I like the layout of the place; it's well-maintained. They keep the residents active and busy, and there's always something to do. In terms of value, you pay for what you get.

My sister is in Augsburg Lutheran Assisted Living. She has to go down an elevator to get to the dining room, so she really doesn't see the people that sit at her table during the day. It's more like a dorm where there are quarters and private bedrooms. There is a nurse's station on the floor where she is and an aide is stationed on the wing where she is and that aide hands out medications. There is little contact among residents except for when they have a party or at mealtime. They're doing some renovating. They should have more gathering rooms where people could meet. They have a lot of activities and she takes part when they have music concerts or a monthly birthday party. They have bingo and Scrabble, too. It is very clean.

Ausburg was a great when my grandmother was first placed there. The staff was friendly and she was kept dressed nicely and clean. Over time we noticed staff attrition and quality of new staff was lower. The staff no longer take as good of care of my grandmother and also began prescribing Haldol stating she was combative. Never told my aunt or mother the original use of Haldol or it's side effects. Immediately we had her removed from the meds. My grandmother was not combative. She may have wanted attention and they were too busy or had limited staff to assist her. She lost many friends she made as a resident leaving her with very little will to live. She passed away there.

Augsburg Lutheran Homes & Village was clean. The people were friendly. The atmosphere was very nice. We were pleased with that one, and if we had to do anything, we would totally consider that one as one of the number one picks. We spoke to a couple of people there; they seemed to be happy, and that meant a lot because my mother was a friendly person. They serve more than one meal. They had books for people to read. They had karaoke. They played games like bingo. They had arts and crafts. They showed me a place where they do physical therapy. They supplied transportation to doctor's appointments. The staff was very friendly and informative.

My mother was at Augsburg Lutheran Home in n the nursing unit. They took excellent care of her. She was always neat and clean. She participated in lots of their activities and the pastor was very good to her. She loved the church services and she had a very sweet room mate. I felt she was content there and had very good care.

There's not much to tell about Augsburg Lutheran Home and Village. The only thing we saw was a one-bedroom apartment. The living room had a love seat with an end table on one side of it and a coffee table in front of it, and there was a TV, and that was it for the living room. Then, in the dining area, there was a round table and four chairs that took up the space. The bedroom was very small. I did not see many people about. They should have a large room where people can mingle because you need human companionship. The salesperson was not great at her job, but she did actually invite us to pick a time to come back and have lunch.

I am a friend or relative of resident

We have watched our loved one decline rapidly since her placement into Augsburg nursing home. In general the nursing home staff are looking for the easiest way to deal with the residents - as opposed to what is best for the residents. The management puts a strong emphasis on keeping their own boxes ticked - making sure residents are safe and secure but there is very little emphasis on the actual well-being of the people they are supposedly caring for. The residents are not pushed to maximise their abilities, instead, only their most basic needs are met. They are dressed, fed and have help with toileting but this is where it ends. Our loved one entered the nursing home with the ability to walk and use the bathroom but within days she was placed in a wheelchair and put in a diaper - just like all the other nursing home residents. Our understanding is that she is less of a risk if she sits in a wheelchair all day and this equals less work for staff. After several months in a wheelchair, she now has lost the ability to walk - and in turn, she has also lost her confidence and independence. With little structure and mental stimulation throughout the day, we have noticed a swift decline in our relative's cognitive abilities too. Like many people her age, she has a mild level of memory loss but she is still totally lucid and benefits greatly from interaction with others. Apparently there are activities scheduled throughout the week but nobody encourages the residents to attend and information about events is hard to come by. When we repeatedly requested an events calender for her room, we were met with an unhelpful and rude response from staff. Mostly residents congregate in the common dining area and sleep in their wheelchairs from pureed meal to pureed meal. There are also people in her unit in the advanced stages of dementia. They can't hold a conversation. Mostly they moan loudly and shout the same word repeatedly. Our usually bright and social relative has fallen into a depression and it's very clear why. This is a hopeless place. In addition, nobody has explained anything to us or our loved one about decisions being made in her regard - like moving her to different units (including a stint in the locked ward for severe dementia cases!!) and also the administration of anti-depressant medication. Regarding the locked ward, it turned out that they had some spare beds that they needed to be filled - to keep up numbers. If we hadn't opposed the decision, she would still be there. As for the medication, it was only when she started to experience life threatening side effects, that we discovered they had been administering this drug to her without consent. We requested that she be taken off it immediately. She needs structure and interesting activities throughout the day, not more drugs. She has essentially been treated like live stock in a processing facility - not a human being with thoughts, opinions and emotions. Please avoid this place! We learned the hard way and now we seem to be at the point of no return.

Augsburg Lutheran Home and Village was very comfortable. It had a lower rental cost. The staff was excellent. They seemed very caring to the people who visited. I looked at a one-bedroom. It was carpeted and had a bathroom. I looked at one with a den and one without. The dining room was perfectly fine. I didn’t see it busy and crowded.

I liked everything about Augsburg. The apartments were well-appointed and very home like. The layout was fine and for the moment it’s on the top of my list. Their appraising is reasonable and they have a lot of activities which the Lutheran church subsidizes. The rooms were fantastic, I liked the rooms the best there. Most of the rooms had a view into a garden, they have washers and dryers in most of the rooms and they have a regular bath and a guest bath.

Augsburg is a wonderful place. The people were very friendly and there were lots of activities going on. I especially like the rooms because each of the room had a French door leading out onto a little patio and that was true even for studio size apartments. When I decide to do independent living that's where I would go.

Augsburg Lutheran would be my friend's first choice. It was a very nice facility. The staff was great. Their customer service people were good. They also had the same services and features as the other facilities we looked at. My friend was looking for a private room; however, when she went there, it was like a hospital with a curtain in between, and there would be two people in there and that was not what she wanted.

My parents spent their final 4 ½ years at Augsburg and we couldn't have made a better choice. Besides being a lovely facility and reasonably priced the care they received was everything we had hoped for. The staff at every level was so loving and attentive, but especially the angels that took care of them in the nursing level who really gave us peace of mind. This is the aspect you just can't know 100% ahead of time, and you WILL need, as elderly people often have frequent hospitalizations, followed by rehab (sub-acute care) in the nursing level, even if they are basically living independently in an apartment. My parents thrived whenever they needed some time in nursing, and they were able to visit each other daily whenever one needed a rehab stay, even though they were both wheelchair bound because the entire facility is under one roof. We were so fortunate that when my dad needed a place to spend his final hours he was "home at Augsburg" with a loving staff that he knew.

Augsburg Lutheran Assisted Living is a very caring facility, most of their patients are unable to do a lot on their own and need daily assistance with dressing, eating and just about everything else. My sister's nurses have been very patient and kind with my sister while she is going through this rough time in her life. Since my sister had her strokes she gets very angry and frustrated and the nurses understand that and don't patronize her at all. They generally seem to care much more about the patient here than many other places I have seen.Like most other facilities they provide all the basics such as 3 meals a day, all cleaning and activities. They seem to understand all the patients individual needs and tailor a support program specifically for them. In my sisters case there is very real hope that she will regain the lost mobility and speech so they work with her every day to keep her muscles loose and bring in a speech therapist 3 times a week. The staff and doctors I have seen are very nice and the facilities themselves are very clean and well kept. They have an onsite pharmacy and doctors on call so I feel assured that my sister will get the best attention she needs at this time. They also understand that while my sister needs a lot of therapy she also needs to relax so they have made her very comfortable making sure she has the niceties she likes and that she's able to watch her normal tv programs.

It is a great feeling to service the community and volunteer at Augsburg Lutheran Home , which provides care and support to the aged and old in need. Augsburg Lutheran is a home away from home with a lovely campus and provides all required facilities and comforts to its members. One can choose from garden apartments to studios with necessary household facilities. Its town center helps one to connect with its inner self and to get engaged in free leisure classes and activities. The Staff is very caring, responsible, helpful and supportive and members have 24 hour on call nursing staff by their side. Patience is one virtue a newcomer can learn at this home village. The meals provided are of high quality and there is abundant peace around for a healthy living. There are frequent physician visits and rehabilitative therapies. I suggest offering your services here if you want to bring a change and difference in lives of Augsburg families.
