I went to the Holiday Renaissance-Austin. Beautiful Place. They were very clean and very attentive. The rooms were nicely appointed as far as, like the way they were set up. I liked that. I liked least, that even though it was a lower-cost place, it was still a little pricey for our price range. Super friendly, super attentive staff, and obviously in touch with the people who reside there because as we were walking by, he would greet people by name.

I liked Holiday Renaissance-Austin. It's my favorite out of the two I visited. They have food service. You get your meals there, which was nice. The property's a little bit older. It's in a wooded area. It's very nice. I visited it during a little bit of a cold snap, so I didn't get to see how nice the property probably is during the summer months, which I'm looking forward to seeing. I like the apartments. They're a nice size. What I liked most about it was the first-floor apartments have a back door. They have a door from the bedroom that goes out onto a little bit of a patio where you could put plants or chairs. It's not very big, but it's nice and it overlooks some of the landscaping and the property. If you didn't want to, you didn't have to go through the lobby every time you came into your apartment. The staff was nice and pleasant. They weren't pushy or anything like that. They're easy to deal with. I had a ham steak and a side. The dining room was nice. They also have a meal program where they deliver to your apartment. All you have to do is call and then they'll bring your lunch or your dinner or breakfast up to your room. The facility looked great. It's an older property, but it looked very clean and very nice.

Holiday Renaissance-Austin was my second choice. It was very nice. I just didn't feel particularly good about the layout. Due to COVID protocols, they had the assisted living area quite a long way from the lobby area. So, my mom's apartment would have been a long way from the people. It was a beautiful area though. Being at the edge of the hill country, there are a lot of beautiful oak trees outside. It had a nice feel to it. The people were very attentive. They responded quickly when I did an inquiry. The dining area looked like a restaurant-type environment rather than a cafeteria style. They came to the tables and waited on the residents. Everything looked pretty good. It seemed to be an older facility, but it was very well kept.

I had an in-person tour of Holiday Renaissance-Austin. The property is in a nice location and it's quiet. It's at the back of the cul-de-sac in a residential area, which is super nice. It's got nice trees all around it. It is an older property. The apartments are being upgraded as they become available, but they were still lacking some of the more modern amenities. The bathroom was a little bit tighter than I would have liked it to be. There were visible spots of aging, especially on the exterior. There was somewhat of a pervading odor of dampness. The staff was nice enough. The director was a little bit condescending. I did not feel completely welcome. Instead of offering suggestions, she told me what to do, which I understand. But I got the feeling that she wasn't interested in our mother relocating there, so it's not on my list. The dining area looked lovely. The people there were lively and alert. The food smelled good. The menu looked very, very balanced and kind of wide-ranging. It looked nutritious. The rooms were adequate, but they were on the small side. They had some studio apartments. They make arrangements for outings to local museums or the symphony.

Renaissance-Austin definitely needs renovation, but they're working on it. Overall, the place was fine. It just had some issues. The people were delightful and nice.

We liked Renaissance-Austin Senior Living. The problem with them is the fact that they only had a room upstairs on the second floor, and my mother didn't want to be on the second floor. They weren't wanting to work with us on that, they were just like "Well, this is what we have." Access is important. The room was a little smaller than the place we chose and the upkeep wasn't as good. It seemed that the paint at the assisted living was a little older and not quite as refreshed as some of the other places. The staff that gave us the tour was good but she seems kind of pushy. We were sitting on a small 36-inch table, and she looked at my wife almost the whole time, even though we were touring for my mom. She understood that, but she kept referencing all her questions to my wife. We're in it together, nothing wrong with asking us both, but she should have been pointing the direction more to me, so that was odd. The dining area was really small. I heard they have all the same activities as others, but I didn't observe any. They have a library and a fitness room. The assisted living seemed off by itself, it's a longer walk, not a part of the area. It seemed like everything was catered toward the convenience of independent living, that's what I didn't like. The place was clean and nice, it wasn't great but it was good. It seemed like the independent living area was nice, but the assisted living didn't have quite as much upkeep, so there were two different areas. I think they could try to be more accommodating towards the residents as far as getting them in a room that they would prefer to be in. I think they should make it seem like the assisted living was as high a priority as the independent living because it seemed like they were more focused on the quality of life for the independent living.

I went to look at Renaissance-Austin. The staff was very friendly, and they have checked back with me multiple times. They were very caring. It felt like a nice and very developed community. The grounds were beautiful and tucked back in the trees. They were also pet friendly. They had activities, a library, gym, restaurant, and bistro. They had a pool table that people weren't using, and the residents decided they wanted to turn it into a chapel. So now they're changing that room over to be what the residents want to use it for. I thought that was pretty awesome. They did have two-bedroom units and felt a little less updated than some other places but a little less expensive. They didn't have granite countertops, and the appliances seemed a little bit more dated.

The staff in Renaissance-Austin was wonderful. The COVID protocols in place were really good. They checked the temperature, they had us sign in on a computer, so that it would be good for contact tracing and they wore masks. The place was very clean. The common areas were nice and seemed comfortable.

I had a fine tour experience at Renaissance-Austin. The facility seemed quite nice and folks seemed well cared for. The staff was very friendly. There were only 33 residents in their assisted living portion. The dining area for the assisted living was quite small, but the place seemed very clean. The rooms were decent size with a nice sized window. The building seemed older though, but it depended on the room and how recently they have been redone. There was an area on each floor that residents could relax in, and all the floors had beautiful shared patios.

Renaissance-Austin seems like a nice assisted living facility with nice caregivers and the staff was sweet. They showed me a studio apartment, I think it was 360 square feet, and it seems nice, well-lit, and comfortable. They seem to have a community center and then an activity coordinator that was there that seemed to plan lots of things for the people. There's also a library there and a cafeteria. I saw a big exterior courtyard and it's nice too. They didn't serve a full meal on the visit, but we took a menu and it looked fine. It was an adequate tour.

Renaissance-Austin's location is great for us and the environment was very pleasant because it's in a relatively quiet setting. We also liked the layout of the facility. It's not too cramped and not too high since my mother doesn't like high rises. The facility itself and the services, like the dining services and all the facilities, were very, very pleasing. We liked the fact that they have different levels of care for long-term potential like they have independent care and assisted care. The rooms were nice, very well decorated, clean, and just very pleasant. They have planned activities, and from their schedule, it looked very well organized and very well thought through. The atmosphere was very serene, green, and safe, and we had a great time with Matt, who was the director that we worked with. He's very pleasant, followed up with us, and helped us understand the facility, the people, and the residents there.

My dad and I really liked Renaissance-Austin, except that independent and assisted living were placed separately. He would have been living with the independent people only, who were more on the go than he could be. Also, I don't want him to move into assisted living and then have to leave all his friends. So, I just didn't feel like it was for him, even though I was thrilled with the room that he could have gotten. Another thing was that it's a little bit farther for me. We liked the food though, and the apartment, and everything else about it. It was a one-bedroom, and was the biggest one-bedroom we saw anywhere. I just really fell in love with that, and he would have had a patio there. The staff was friendly and nice too. They gave us a meal, which was unexpected and nice. The food was even very good. It's beautiful and the grounds were spectacular. They had a barbershop and a lot of activities.

We did both virtual and in-person tour of Renaissance-Austin. The overall review and tour were good. It was open and clean, the people were friendly, and the environment with the residents seemed friendly. It's definitely a place that we would recommend someone take a look at. It just didn't work for my grandmother. The staff was very professional and informative. It was a great facility. They offered a lot, and the accommodations were nice. It was really good overall. She was able to sample some food at the time.

My mom is moving into the assisted living facility of Renaissance-Austin. She is a current resident of the independent living part for around 4-1/2 years. It's nice, and the staff seems professional. It's pretty large, though the appliances are a bit old. It has a washer and dryer and a nice patio. It looks pretty well and new, except for the old appliances, which make them old and shabby. It's got a courtyard, and it's about two stories. The carpeting is a bit old, but otherwise, it's well kept. They have a library, a music room, a media room, and someone comes in and cuts your hair onsite.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into Renaissance-Austin. I chose it because of the location, and it was very scenic. It's like in the woods and they even have a live deer that runs around. It's just a nice community. The staff is very welcoming and willing to do more than 100%. Our food is delicious, you get three meals a day, a delightful team in the kitchen, and a chef, and it seems like most of us are actually doing socializing, somewhat, when they've got a pool table all the way to workout room and gathering locations. The price is a little high, but with all the inclusive things, like they do your linens of the week and just a variety of little things that add up, it's still a little pricey but it's a safe community. I've been in different places that I thought would be a great place to live in my senior years and what I'm wanting to do is just relax after the loss of my parents. The staff is great. The room's layout is basically sort of an apartment. It's much larger than a studio, the bathroom setup is nice, the kitchen is nice, and the carpeting is a higher quality. I think it's the standard carpeting for most places, they also have the hardwood floors, but I chose the carpeting. I like a room with a view, and so here I get to look over at the 78759 zip code, which is where my parents and I lived for a while after me being in the military, so it's sort of like I'm overlooking that hill in that area where I used to live, so it's comfortable. We had a trivia time slot yesterday and some activities. Today they're going to start working on the ugliest Christmas sweater, so it's like a crafting thing. We have a library and a pool room. There are two activity rooms here, like a formal living room, and then one where some play dominoes. In the dining room the staff pleasantly serves you. They also bring the food to your door for social distancing. Everything is protocol and I like that. I'm in much better health than some of these others, I just needed to retire because I'm disabled now. Some of the staff have been here two years or five years and you can tell they love their job and that says a lot. The facility I have been very impressed with and happy with. There's a little bit of walking from certain places to the others, but that's good exercise. We have great trees and everything. The lady that takes care of the activities puts in 100% on having things to do here. Like they have dances, they have activity rooms, and it's a great layout. From the way I look, all of December has things to do. Plus, they have a pool room and a gym. There were some facilities that were of lower quality and the price was somewhat less, but didn't seem like more of what I think the quality of senior living should be. Renaissance-Austin is very well-designed, excellent artworks, and they decorate for the holidays too. It's pretty elaborate, like the high ceilings in the entrance to the driveway and coming in on the second floor. It's a pretty nice layout.

My dad is in Renaissance-Austin and it's been pretty good. My dad has been treated well and he is being taken care of, that is for sure. I have a little bit of trouble getting in touch by phone but I can get in touch by text so that helps. But I believe they are administering meds properly. He just had his check-up from the doctor, and he is doing okay. He is in a situation where he is declining, and he is going to decline, but they are doing a good job of trying to maintain him as best as they can. I feel like in that respect it has been good. But I will say that we will probably look to move him into the VA because of the cost. It cost so much, and he is going to need more care and we won't be able to afford that. I think the food is fine, but he does not like it because there is no salt in it because he cannot have salt. But he will tell you it is fine; he gets plenty to eat. At first he was forgetful about the salt, he would tell me it was not good, and I would tell him "Dad there is no salt in it" but he did report to the doctor the other day that he has been fed well. They're not having any activity right now. The most they can do is go outside of their rooms and visit the hallways but there is no gathering right now.

My husband has moved into Renaissance-Austin. I got to go in one of the vacant rooms and it had a door that connected it to the outside. The location was ideal for us. I liked that it had that outside entrance, so he's not so isolated with the whole COVID thing going on. If it wasn't for COVID I would've chosen a different room because he really didn't need the extra one bedroom, but it's a real plus to have that door that connects to the outside. It's really good for him. He has mobility issues, so because of that door right to the outside, it's easier for him to get in and out. He doesn't have to walk all the way down the hallway to the office. He just walks right outside and the cars are right there. They don't have memory care there, and that's a little bit of a downside because he's probably gonna get to the point where he needs memory care and we'll have to move, but this is ideal for right now. It's a really beautiful setting. It's up on a hill in a wooded area. It's beautiful, and it doesn't look like a hotel nursing home. I only saw the outside though. It's a little bit overpriced. They normally have activities, but there's nothing right now.

The staff at Renaissance-Austin was very helpful, but the facility was way too spread out and too difficult to navigate for my handicapped father. There were elevators, stairs, and long hallways, which would be nice for a more ambulatory person. I've met people who live there who were very happy and just loved it, but it wasn't right for my father who is handicapped. The rooms were large, nice, and had kitchenettes. I was there off hours, but I looked at the calendar and I saw people doing things on their own. There was a group playing dominos or cards without an activity director, so there's a good community feel to the place, and the people definitely feel free to do things together.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for stopping by! We regret that we are not the perfect fit for your father but aim to offer an amazing experience by providing 3 delicious and nutritious meals a day, light weekly housekeeping, and a variety of engaging activities. If anything ever changes do not hesitate to stop in and say hi!

We had our stepdad at Renaissance-Austin. It's older, but it has a beautiful setting with oak trees. It's very charming. The food service was buffet-style, and the staff was great. We liked it. They had two separate wings for independent and assisted living. They did the laundry once a week, and we participated in the wine tastings. The dining room was very nice. The facility upkeep was good and it's well maintained.

My mother likes Renaissance-Austin very much. She knows a couple of people who already live there. It is a positive experience for us. The place is nice. The walls are white, and there is plenty of natural light. There are a lot of activities to choose from. They have yoga, happy hour, bridge, and dominos. We saw about three different floorplans. One of them was just a bedroom with a sitting area, and then we saw a 2-room apartment, with a bedroom and a living room-kitchenette area.

I was not at all impressed with Renaissance-Austin. The place was a dump for assisted living. They had no one in reception when we got there. The furniture in the common areas was all ratty and torn. I wouldn't put my mother in there. They had things that they said they offered, but we didn't see anybody out doing any activity at all. I saw one guy eating his lunch out of a Styrofoam container that they got from the independent living side of the house. Their independent living looked nice, but it was like a different world. They open two doors that were shut to be completely blocked off from the independent living part. From what I saw, they get food from the buffet from the independent living, and it's not restaurant style. They had terrible staff turnover. The people we talked to started the day before. It was not a good place.

I liked the surroundings of Renaissance-Austin very much. The staff was very good, and I was very pleased. She was very thorough, explained everything, very personable, and very pleasant. I would move there if I could get some of the things that I want because the price range was OK. The lady showed us an apartment with a full kitchen. I intend to cook because I do not like their meal plans. Their dining facility is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you could go anytime during that time for your second meal.

The Renaissance by Holiday Retirement is phenomenal. They are unbelievable. They were as good as the other facility except that they don’t have as much as extended type of care. The managers are superb. Their activities are wonderful. Their dining room is lively. Their residents are happy. The campus is lovely, but it is too big. The natural setting, the view, and the care that all of the staff take make you feel like you’re the most important person in the world. They took plenty of time and they took many calls. I had lunch with them. The food was good. The facility was very clean. The staff, everywhere I walk, they always smile and they say hello. It looks like they have plenty of activities. It is a little bit of an older property, but it is well kept. I am so impressed with the staff, the feeling, and the activities. They have activity transportation and they have people to help with what we needed help with. Overall, they do a wonderful job.

The Renaissance looked very clean, and organized; easy for the residents to figure out, and it seemed very homey. It’s like a nice hotel when you walk in with a nicely decorated hallway. It’s in a residential neighborhood, and the grounds were very nice. The staff was friendly. They have activities. I saw an exercise class going on, lecture series, games, and a little gym. It’s close to a hospital, and shopping area. My mom liked that it has both independent, and assisted living in one place.

I think if my parents are in a little bit better shape and obviously a little bit more on wealth to support them over the years, that was just a beautiful place. They can’t drive anymore, and they can’t travel much. Travelers can travel around the country and stay at other Holiday retirement communities for no charge, I thought that was a spectacular program. I came at lunch, and I observed people. The food was wonderful. I went home with some delicious cookies. The facility was very nice and beautiful. Again, it’s just independent living. As people age and they deteriorate, you’d be looking to bring in home care service which would be very expensive. It’s very difficult to maintain. If you’re only looking for independent living, that’s a superb facility.

The food was really good at Renaissance Austin. Their buffet was very nice-looking and the food was good. Their chef brought a special dessert for my granddaughter. The rooms were a little bit on the small size. They were very clean. They put new carpet and paint your room before you move in. They have a lot of activities. They do a trip somewhere within 50 miles of Austin every Thursday. They have a lot of concerts and then they have guest speakers from University of Texas to come out and talk about different things. What I like best about this one is their grounds -- they were just beautiful.

I had a very short visit at Renaissance-Austin. It seemed very nice and very luxurious, but it felt dark and kind of oppressive to me. It was almost like being in a museum. They had beautiful art work on the wall and beautiful furniture. It just seemed to be too formal for my mom, but it was a beautiful place. The people were great. They had a bigger staff. They are friendly, very welcoming, helpful, nice, and very much willing to give me lots of information. Their dining room was also very nice, but a little too formal with white tablecloths and crystals. I liked the fact that they had a pool, and it seemed it had more than one shuttle bus to move people around. I thought they were also pretty much at full capacity and need a much bigger place.

I went to visit Renaissance-Austin to spend a few days with my grandparents and it was probably the happiest I have ever seen them. To start off, the facilities are beautiful and located very close to the attractions Austin has to offer. The building itself is very large and the private suite is very spacious and definitely has the needs of senior citizens in mind. There are many activities that the residents can take a part of, such as a game room, TV room, pool table, a small gym, among other activities. What I loved the most was that they have a very independent lifestyle, but still do not have to worry about doing certain chores that would strain energy, such as housekeeping and laundry. Now they have more time to just enjoy themselves and explore new things that they could not have done in other places. The staff was also very welcoming and helpful when I went to visit and showed that a lot of thought is put into providing a relaxing environment for not just the residents, but also their families. It was an overall great experience and now I can rest easy knowing that my family is in good hands.

The Renaissance Austin (owned by Holiday) is a solid choice for assisted living, and its employees are caring and attentive. Their food is decent, better than most. They have weekly activities, a free shuttle service, and reasonable monthly rates. Housing consists of studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom units. The most unique feature of The Renaissance is that they have dedicated live-in managers. These managers live at the Renaissance year-round, 24 hours a day and dine with residents, participate in activities, and make sure residents feel safe and included. No other retirement community that I've visited has this feature. Another unusual Renaissance feature is a community service program. Residents have the opportunity to volunteer in the local community through service projects such as helping children with reading skills, supporting U.S. troops, or working with local homeless shelters. While visiting, I learned that Renaissance offers a free one week travel program to residents. From what I was told, residents can visit other Holiday owned properties (in other states) and stay free for a week. The person I visited at Renaissance Austin was happy to be staying there and had made new friends through her bridge group.
