I visited this facility

I reached out to a couple of places and they thought my aunt's cognitive problems were too serious for them to be able to care for her in that environment, but when I talked to Homestead of Augusta, they have assisted living and they also do memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's patients, and all of their staff are trained in there, so they're able to put some people in assisted living that might not meet the criteria for otherwise, and that was what sold me on it. After I talked to them, they came and did an evaluation, and they thought that my aunt would do well there, and so that was the main thing. My aunt is in the assisted living part. The place where she is is like a little studio apartment. She has her own space. There's a small refrigerator. They have a microwave available if you want, which we declined not to do because she's never had one, so it's probably a little late to start now. They have a dining room. All her meals are furnished. I'm very pleased with all the staff there and the care that she's getting and all my interactions with them in helping me walk through the process. I'm very pleased with them. They have plenty of people around to help, and everybody is very good. They're all trained in memory care, so they're able to deal with people with those kinds of problems, so I think they're very good. I haven't eaten a meal there. My aunt said that the food is good. She has been pleased with it. I haven't seen anything that is a red flag. Everything is very good. They have activities and they have certain things to do. It has not been a full two weeks since she's been there, and so she's still in the process of getting oriented for it and so forth. They have things they try to get residents involved in. They have different kinds of activities. They have local pastors in the area that come in and do a Sunday service once a week on a rotating basis. All the meals are served. They will go and come and get her at mealtime and take her down to the dining room so she can interact with other residents and have some kind of contact with people, that's something that I like and I think helpful for her. One of the things that I liked about this place was if her condition continues to progress and gets worse, they would be able to transition her from assisted living into memory care without having to try to move her. It's worth it.

I visited this facility

We have checked out Homestead of Augusta. We liked it, but it has two floors. It was very clean. They had nice rooms, and it looked like they had decent activities. They had a little store where they could buy stuff too. They have a beauty shop and a nail salon, which is nice. I just didn't care for the two floors. Mom would have to be upstairs, and we did not want that. They were fairly clean, nice, and they had a relaxed atmosphere there. The staff were very nice people.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents got moved in to the Homestead of Augusta. It's very friendly. They're very accommodating to the needs of the residents there. Even though I don't always get to go inside to visit them, I still get to pick them up for doctors' appointments and still trying to move some of their stuff. The only time I get to go in is when I have a carload of their stuff. They're very well taken care of there. They get three meals a day and about one or two snacks a day. They seem to like the food. I think they like the food better than the Meals on Wheels food they were getting prior to moving. The room is small, but it's enough for what they need. They have just a 1-bedroom apartment, and they happen to pick a room that has a little better view than another one. There was available that had a view of the side of the building. This one actually has some green space that they can see off their window. They have a beauty salon there, a podiatrist that comes in to take care of their toenails, and a PA that comes in instead of them having to go to a doctor's office.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I felt like the price of Homestead of Augusta was good, but the cleanliness bothered me. They needed to clean. I felt like they said a lot of things that they would do with them that they didn’t necessarily do, but I think they were under staffed. They treated my mom good, and her room was OK but it could have been cleaner. They needed a cleaning crew. Their food was good too. They did have activities, but they didn’t have as many as what they have said. Basically they would take them places if they could go. They will play ball or do some coloring. They did paint their nails. No problems with the staff, but they were just understaffed They need more staff, clean crew, and they need to interact with the patients. The staff that was there was wonderful, but they didn’t have enough.

I visited this facility

We had a tour at Homestead. The staff was very nice and helpful and they showed us around. They answered most of our questions, and although there were a couple of questions to which they didn't have the answer, they found the nurse who had the answer to them.

Staff was friendly. They seemed to change staff very often. My mother didn't enjoy this part. Food was decent at times. Clean building. Over all nice environment.

Lovely little senior community in the rural town of Augusta. Almost has all the ammenities of a continuum of care community, but does not have a nursing home. Secure dementia care units, assisted living apartments, adult day care, respite...convenient for residents and families. Outside home health and hospice utilized to meet the medical needs of the residents. Buildings and grounds are well kept and love their philosophy to treat their residents like they are our own family.
