Our tour of Oak Hill Assisted Living went very well. It was very clean. The people were very personable. They seemed to have good activities for the residents, too. The staff who showed us around were very personable and answered all our questions. They were good.

We liked Oak Hill Assisted Living because of their price point and their care ratio of staff per resident is like 8 to 1 or 10 to 1, whereas most places are a lot more than that. I've only met two of the staff so far. The nurse who assessed my parents (they came to our home and assessed them) and the administrator. They were very helpful and very knowledgeable about the flow of the things there. So, that allowed us to feel comfortable in making a decision. They are under some renovations, but they're changing it over to look more like kind of a high-end hotel for seniors. They're trying to get away from the clinical look and give it more of a lodge-type feel and that was another thing that appealed to us, the atmosphere. They didn't feel like they're just sitting in a nursing home-type place. That feels like a home. They have a salon, a great room, a movie screening room, and a dining room. They also have a few different sitting rooms, and their craft room, which is their all-purpose room. As you're walking through the facility, they have areas for the residents to sit if they need to take a break. There was either a sitting room or a bench somewhere where if the resident was walking the halls and needed to rest, they had that opportunity, probably every 25 to 30 feet, if they didn't have the endurance to walk long distances.

My Grandmother has lived at Oak Hill for almost 4 years. During her time there, she has been given the best care. The staff genuinely care for her. The care she receives is almost as if family members were caring for you. The facility is beautiful and very well maintained.

My mother is now a resident of Oak Hill Assisted Living Community. It is very clean, well-run, and has a very professional staff. It is a very accommodating facility with large rooms, good food, and plenty of activities. They have bingo. They have all kinds of crafts that they do. They have live entertainment, and they have kids come in from school singing. They also have people come in with instruments. They would play bluegrass music and country music. They have a jazz band that comes in, so they have a lot of live music and entertainment. Their staff is outstanding. In terms of cost, it's on par with all the other facilities that are out there.

My husband is actually in Oak Hill Assisted Living Community. I absolutely recommend them. It's a wonderful, clean, and spotless place. They are extremely caring. They have activities every day. Everything is impeccable in the place. The staff are very caring. They are wonderful. There is enough staff to take care of everyone. They are just very, very nice and friendly people. In a week and a half, they all know my name, who I'm there to see, and so on. My husband talks about their food, too. It's very good. I was in there today, and the residents were playing cornhole. This afternoon, they were having a group come in for music and a little party. Yesterday, they played trivia. They have other activities going on all the time. Two or three times a week, they have different music groups coming in for sing a-longs. Seniors like that. My husband is in a semi-private room. They provide the bed and the nightstand. They didn't provide the TV, but they have cable TV. He has a closet and a bathroom. At this point, he's the only one in the room. They have outdoor spaces. The whole thing is built on courtyards. For example, between wing one and wing four, there is a courtyard. Then on the other side, wing one and wing three, there is a courtyard. It is all fenced in, so they can't get out or wander away.

My in-laws were at Oak Hill Assisted Living Community. It was a struggle for them there. The food was not good. You had to beg someone to come and bathe you three times a week. Everything there was kind of a struggle. Communication was a problem, too. I think they have problems with their staff. There wasn't the same level of friendliness as where my in-laws are now. The prices were jacked way up this month, and that's the real reason. My in-laws were covered by their long-term health insurance. My mother-in-law has dementia and a fractured hip, but she never really recovered from that. It kind of left her with some issues of not being independent. My father-in-law takes care of all her problems, but she would have major accidents every day. However, his long-term quit covering him because they didn't think he qualified anymore for long-term health coverage, so the prices were going up to $6000 for him just to live there with her, and he needs no help with anything because he takes care of the home. The reason why they lived there is because we lived 4 miles from there and so they could spend lots of time with us, we could go be there with them, and I could take them to all their doctor's appointments. When the prices went up to $6000, he was going to have to pay out of his pocket for really no care whatsoever and we just could not justify that. I think some of the admin people were wonderful that tried to help me maneuver through daily things. I know that they're privately owned, I think they've got some big problems and I think people are not happy there. I think they're taking care of a lot of people that need more qualified care than what they have on hand. They had minimal activities only because they had a few people that were able to go out and do things. A lot of these people, unfortunately, are at a level in their life where they need a lot of assistance, and they're not able to leave because they have dementia. They can't take care of these people. In the beginning, I rated them high because I thought they were doing a good job with my in-laws. They moved them into the nicest room that they had there. It was a nice large suite with a living area and a little kitchen area with a little sink, a microwave, and a refrigerator. On the other side of that room was their bedroom, and they could walk out to a brick patio, which was nice. But they were spending $12,500 on that. That's the most expensive room there was. We chose that because my in-laws did have long-term health care coverage at the time, and she still does. We were going to even move them out of that room to a smaller room to keep them there, but the prices were going to be astronomical and you're still not getting what you need.
