I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
I have 2 aunts that live in Magnolia Manor. I like it because you got somebody available 24/7 in case they need help. Also they have activities for them to use. What I like the most is that’s someone is available 24/7. That way, if you have somebody out there, you don’t have to worry about something happening and nobody was around.

Some staff are wonderful. Others seem to go out of their way to make the patients as miserable as they are. If your family member is fairly cognizant and able to handle their interactions with staff, express their needs easily, etc. Well, this place may be alright. If they depend on you to be their advocate, this place is only good if you live down the street. I wouldn't choose to place another family member here after this experience.

Magnolia Manor was nice and fine. I enjoyed it, but it was too far for me to go. The rooms were fine. They were doing some crafts and watching TV.

I visited this facility
Magnolia Manor is sprawling and well kept. It's a center owned by the United Methodist Church. It had all levels: they have villas, houses, rooms. They had a Mattie Marshall Alzheimer's unit. They have another facility for intermediate care, and then they have just retirement living and assisted living.
The room was great. They had nice, clean rooms. A lot of activities. The Rosalynn Carter Institute is right there in the same town. It's just like a hotel. I've eaten there several times. It has always been like home-cooked restaurant meals. There are always local cooks.

I visited this facility
On my first visit to Magnolia Manor, I arrived on a Sunday morning, June 2011. The outside appearance was quite pleasant, finely manicured lawn with floral blooms and a couple of gazebos for sitting and visiting with the residents.Walking through the residence, I noticed the smell of home cooked meals being prepared in a nearby kitchen. I asked my grandfather several questions about Magnolia Manor, in which I will describe his responses in the following paragraphs.I asked him if he enjoyed the food, in which he replied very much, it tastes almost as good as your grandmother cooked, but they don't give as big of a serving as I would like. I am often hungry here, and no one will give me extra.I took that into consideration before my next visit, bringing him a box of fried chicken, napkins, coffee, and the Sunday paper. He was quite pleased with the paper, not getting it delivered regularly was causing him some distress and the staff didn't see who was taking his.The rooms are spaced far enough apart as to neighbors aren't disturbed by visitors or television audio. He seemed quite happy with the residence up until his last days living. The inside of the establishment was quite clean and the staff seemed to generally care about its residents. I would recommend this facility to another seeking assisted living.

I am a friend or relative of resident
I have had two different family members stay at this facility, each to a very different result. The first was an elderly stroke victim who entered their care in the early 2000's. She required attentive care, and Magnolia Manor was instructed that with mental exercises and engagement she could regain much of what she had loss. She received little to no care, however, and suffered drastic declines in health and lucidity the doctor attributed to her stay in their care. Surprisingly, the last two months of her visit were vastly different from the first two years. The facility, and its staff, undertook an overhaul that left the area bright, shiny, and trustworthy again. Thus it was without qualms that we allowed a second elderly family member to reside there, only temporarily after a surgery. Her care was satisfactory, and no complaints can be raised. My overall recommendation is to seek out this facility for short term rehabilitation and surgical care (it falls under Medicare coverage), but to avoid it for family members who need to be permanent residents.
