I visited this facility

We visited Sunabella at Savannah. The staff was very friendly. They showed us the location, the services, and the rooms. They were very helpful and caring. It was a good experience. The room we saw was spacious. You could put stuff on the walls to make it homier. They invited us to try the food, but we couldn't. When we arrived, there was an activity going on. They were laughing and having fun. Everything was clean, and everything smelled very good. The only thing is they need to update the furniture, but everything else was perfect.

I visited this facility

The Sunabella at Savannah was nice. The employee was very friendly. They offered me something to eat and drink. They gave me full details about who would care for my father if I chose this facility. The individual introduced me to the different employees, which I thought was pretty good. He took me to different areas and showed me exactly what they were doing. I saw other clients doing exercise. They have somebody read to them. The room was a nice size and had a roommate.

I visited this facility

I went to Sunabella at Savannah. The residents need a higher level of care than my mom needs, but they seem to do a perfect job for those people that need that. The staff was wonderful. If my mom needed that level of care. I would have been thrilled to consider Sunabella. The rooms are perfect, they're good. It has tight security, which is great if you're worried about your mom or dad running off, that's a serious issue for a lot of people. So the security was tight and then the open room was bright and cheerful. They were eating lunch and it smelled delicious. I saw that they were set up for bingo, and there was a piano. Somebody was playing the piano and people were singing songs around the piano. There were plenty of activities to do. The staff who toured us was top-notch, fantastic.

Sunabella at Savannah was nice, clean, and well kept. It's just that we couldn't go through anything. Once they told us how much it was a month, we just basically left and we just ended the tour. The rooms were clean, nice and cozy, well kept, and well maintained. We didn't get a chance to meet anyone, just the really nice salesperson.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

All of our contact with Joyce at Sunabella have been positive. From our first telephone call, she has provided all the information we needed. We virtually toured this community along with some others because of COVID-19. We were very impressed with what the community offers to memory care residents. Two very nice ladies welcomed my sister, and soon she was playing volleyball (seated). Joyce has sent pictures to reassure us she is being cared for. I was so worried the first night my sister would be scared and confused, but Joyce called the next morning to tell us she was doing okay and made a new friend at breakfast.

Provider Response

It was my pleasure! We are so happy to have you and your sister as part of the Sunabella family!

Wonderful and attentive staff. Inclusive environment. It is nice to have a community that concentrates on memory care only. The staff understands the needs and challenges of those that have memory issues.

My mom is living in Insignia of Savannah, and it's very good. Her room is very clean, and everything's wonderful. They play games and do puzzles. The food is great, and I have no problems with it whatsoever. There's a screened-in porch and a patio.

So far, Insignia of Savannah is really good. They’ve helped my mom a lot, and they’re really good with her. They seem to have the experienced personnel to deal with memory care patients. My mother has one of the smaller rooms, but it’s big enough for her. They clean it everyday. Even the cleaning staff will stop and help the residents when they need it. They’re just really good people. Their front porch is really nice, however, the patients aren’t allowed out there unless the family member comes and takes them out. It’s in a good location. The parking is real small for visitors, but I’ve never been there that I couldn’t find a place to park. The outside looks really nice. The only thing I could say is it would be nice if the patients had an area to go outside. I like it because it’s one flat rate for everybody, and not based on levels of care needed. It’s a flat $4300, and it includes cable TV in the room. The thing that is really important to me is that they have on-staff nursing, and they have a doctor that goes to the nursing home. That’s been a tremendous help to me with my mother because when I take her out, she gets very disoriented and very agitated. They have somebody out there with them, talking to them, and hugging them. They have people that come in and play the piano; a lady comes in, plays the violin, and sings for them and gets some to play games. Every time I’ve gone there -- and I go at different times -- there is always something going in the common room for the patients. I just get good vibes from there. A lady thought that one worker was her daughter so she called her “mother” and hugged her and talked to her. They go along and help the patients. I thought that this was the place for my mom.

I visited Insignia of Savannah. I thought the staff was very good. The facility itself was very clean, but to me it was somewhat depressing. Sometimes it had to do with the residents because they were not high functioning. It had a different feeling if they were high functioning or not high functioning.

Caring, compassionate care for those suffering with Memory Loss. The staff is exceptional and truly do care for their residents. I've researched all around the Savannah area and would not choose any other place for my mom!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My dad was placed in this facility last year. Upon arrival he was in moderate -good condition. The facility was clean, well-run, residents well cared for and the food was nutritious and plentiful. After he was there six months, the director left. The new management is inexperienced and hard to get in contact with. He lost an extraordinary amount of weight. His room was filthy, and often times he was unkempt. Plenty of times I arrived to visit with no staff in sight and residents needing to toilet. When questioned, I was often told it was an "off" day. I also asked about the extreme weight loss and heard every excuse from "it's just the disease" to "he's walking it off" (highly unlikely). Every time I visited him, he was seated at a table (usually alone) in the dining hall with no interaction or stimulation. I truly believe the kept him continually drugged so he would be less to deal with .....and he wasn't the only one. I saw several residents I believe were basically being "warehoused" for lack of a better word. I watched my dads condition plummet. It wasn't until I saw that his main meal consisted of less than what a 10 yr summer camp child would eat, that I realized why he had such a great weight loss as well as the other residents. When I proceeded to move him to another (better) facility, I was met with hostility from the staff, including a lack of cooperation in obtaining his personal records, and a proper and agreeable termination of his contract. After I did get him moved a resident "eloped" (obviously because there's not enough staff to pay attention to them and make sure doors are locked) and was found in the marsh behind the facility hours later by the police department. Luckily they found him in time. It was no surprise to me and all I could think was that could've been my dad. I would certainly search other facilities in the area before I would settle for this one.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband was at Savannah Cottages for ten months and I was very happy with the community and its caregivers. I became a part of the family, because I spent so much time there, was even volunteer of the year. Even though I brought my husband home to care for him, I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I visited this facility

I visited this facility and noticed how beautiful the outdoor setting was. There was ample parking for staff and visitors. When I walked into the facility I noticed how friendly the staff were. I was given a tour and noticed the facility offers private and semi private rooms. Each room has ample space with their own bath. There is a large library, many activities offered and Savannah Cottage offers transportation to any resident that would like to be driven shopping, to their doctor's appointments, etc. There is a large dinning room and the facility offers 3 meals. There are walkways outside for residents and visitors to stroll around and enjoy the fresh air and Savannah Cottage is pet friendly.

I visited this facility

I visited Savannah Cottages. In general I thought that Savannah Cottages was a great place. The grounds of the facility are well manicured. The common areas of the facility are nice; it gives you a feeling of home. During holidays the facility is decorated very festive. The residents' rooms are kept cleaned and odor free. The residents are always encouraged to bring items that will add a personal touch to their rooms. The staff and management of the facility are great. I am especially impressed with the Activities Director. She makes sure that she engages with the residence. She is very creative when it comes to activities. I think the residents get great care there. While I was there, I noticed that the residence was clean and they seemed very comfortable in their surroundings. I would recommend it to family members that is looking for a comfortable and home like environment to place their love one.
