I visited this facility

I went to look at Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing. Everybody there was very kind and receptive. They showed us exactly what we asked for and what we were looking for. Everything looked clean and nice. They have the medical, the food, and the different-size rooms to fit whatever the customer wants. It seems like they have a pretty wide arrangement of whatever the customers are looking for. The food looks good. The menu looks fantastic. The staff was fantastic.

I visited this facility

My wife is moving into Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing. The place was up to date. It was very clean. The staff interacted with the patients. They had a very good rapport with the patients. Everybody was friendly, from the director all the way down to the people who were interacting with the residents. I was impressed with the place my wife is going to stay, and I like the visiting policies, so I can visit her every day until my surgery comes. They're going to send a nurse out to assess her for what she'll need, and we'll go over that. The staff was excellent. She was well-versed on the services. She explained things to me in a very professional manner, and for what she said everything turned out OK.

I visited this facility

We chose Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing for my sister. We thought the floorplan and the facilities were much better than the other place, because it's more like an apartment setting instead of just one big room like a hospital room. It's beautifully sectioned off, and we shall have a living room/dining room setting, and her bedroom and bathroom are separate. She'll have several closets and she does need that. The staff was very friendly, the facility was extremely clean, and when you can walk in somewhere and it smells pleasant, I like that. We were walking around while the residents were having lunch, they seemed very happy and engaged with their food, and it smelled delicious. There was a pianist while we were there who was playing songs and singing. We were there for about an hour and a half. We looked at their calendar of activities and they have happy hour today, and they had several activities listed. The atmosphere was very peaceful, just what a mature person needs.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing. It was formerly a hotel, so it has a very nice lobby. It is not huge, but it is very well maintained. They have a double-sided fireplace in the reception area that goes on the other side to the dining room where the residents in assisted living eat, and that's always very nicely kept. They also have a library that you can access from the lobby. In memory care, I actually like the fact that it's one long hall. You walk in and you're kind of in the center. Right ahead of you is the nurse's station area. To the left is the dining area and some rooms, and to the right is their living room and some rooms. For someone struggling with memory issues, the fact that it's one long hall is really good. There's a variety of rooms that you can choose from. Everyone has a private bathroom. It's not like a cinderblock hospital room with nothing to it. They've got windows and they allow you to decorate however you want. The floor in Mom's room is wood, and it's nice. They've had some special events where families can attend, and the food is a step above industrial. It's not terrible, but it's not like you're going to a gourmet restaurant. There's certainly a nice variety. It's always served at the right temperature, and it's healthy food. They've had a high turnover in their staffing with the memory care director. The memory care director before was phenomenal. Mom was playing bingo, and they were listening to music. They took them out in the bus and they went to restaurants, and they took drives to get hamburgers or ice cream. But she left last fall and they haven't had one yet that has stayed since. Sometimes they'll be doing exercises with a staff person, but I really don't see them doing a whole lot of exercises or activities anymore in memory care.

My husband has moved into Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing. They were very informative, and they were in our price range. They were very welcoming. The staff were very polite, courteous, and very helpful. They have all types of activities. They have movie nights. They have a men's club, where they take trips. They have arts and crafts and a lot of things to keep him busy. He is in a studio apartment. He has twin bed, nightstand, dresser chair, microwave, refrigerator, sink, his own bathroom, and a walk-in closet. The facility is clean, and it is to my satisfaction. Their activities are fine. My husband is not really a people person, so we're trying to get him to socialize. They still put the effort in to try and get him down there. Their value for money is reasonable. It is something that we could afford.

I visited this facility

I liked Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing. It was very charming. I liked the cleanliness and everyone was very friendly. It is very small, so there's not much room for outside activity, but they do have a lot. They serve the meals either in your room or in the dining area. There's a kitchenette, but not really a kitchen, in the rooms. And they were very honest in their review of whether we could work there or not. The staff was very honest and very easy to talk with. They were doing some chair exercises. Outside, they had a porch area, but there wasn't much room for anything else.

Hi Rita, thank you for sharing your positive experience! Thank you again for the great review!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father moved into Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing the day after Thanksgiving. We chose this because my dad was able to see it himself, he was not able to see the other place. So I feel like we chose this one because he had a little bit of a say in where he wanted to go. It's very nice, cozy, and friendly. The staff is extremely friendly. He enjoyed his visit there, we had lunch, and he enjoyed the food, so he said he preferred to go there. It looks very nice, it's very kept up, it's decorated for the Holidays. They had decorations for Thanksgiving, and since then I've seen decorations for Hanukkah and Christmas. I think everything is nice. They have daily activities for the residents. The one thing that we like is they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and their restaurant-looking cafe, and they prefer the residents to come and eat in person, so I like that. It keeps them motivated. They have, obviously, the nursing staff there that can help, and they have maintenance people on site for help with anything in the room. One suggestion that I have is, my father moved into a room and the heat didn't work. He didn't have hot water his first day. So while maintenance and everybody has come in and are working on the issue, it was a little bit of a bummer to have my dad move into a unit that was cold and the heater didn't work. The whole building is heated, so he wasn't like out on the streets, and they did bring a space heater in for him. So, the people are very good. It just is a bummer to pay all that money and have a room that wasn't ready.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We apologize for the issues that happened during the move in process. We have reviewed our move in process based on this and have made improvements to ensure this does not occur again. If you would like to discuss this further, please reach out to our Executive Director, Patricia. Again, we appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to reach out.

Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing is very clean. There are lots of activities and my sister enjoys playing some of their games. The staff is helpful and pleasant to the residents as well as family members. They had a big family dining thing yesterday, kind of ahead of Thanksgiving, and the food was all delicious. I've eaten there before and it was also really good. It was our top choice. Everyone was very helpful from the very start of the process until the move-in.

I visited this facility

I liked Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing, but my dad didn't. The staff members were all nice. I saw all of the apartments. It's nice for a senior, if they want to move in that kind of community; my dad didn't. I didn't see any activities being done. We were there after 5:00, and they were just finishing up dinner. There wasn't anybody in the community room. They had a space for you to watch television. I saw some shelves with some books in it. The outdoor area had tables, chairs, and nice tree areas. The grounds were kept nice.

Provider Response

We really appreciate your feedback!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is at Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing and the first two weeks have been so horrible, absolutely horrible. I'm in the process of writing a letter to the CEO of the company requesting my community feedback because of the poor level of care that they provided for my father. He has sat in soiled diapers three times for the first two weeks of admission and he was never given the physical assessment as he was promised within the first two days of his admission. He was consistently ignored. When he pages, the average response time would be over half an hour and he's been berated for using a diaper. He has been called a big baby by one of the staff members, and our caregiver, who stayed with him for the first night, was also berated for being present. I'm talking about an inadequate level of care here. The care has been substandard. We spoke to the executive director and we're asking for a refund from our community fee because he was not provided with the right level of care. My father didn't get enough of a chance to eat too. He's dehydrating. That's how bad it is, and their idea of activities is just sitting with a bunch of old people in front of a TV. What they should improve on is the attitude of their staffing, the kind of level of care they provide, their communication between the top level management and their staff, their response times, and their confirmation that the resident is eating. They shouldn't even be in business.

It was lovely. It was everything that we were looking for and then some. It's just that at that time and the situation that we were in, it was a bit costly. The facility itself was really nice. They had everything that we needed. If we were to ever really consider doing it again, it would definitely be on the top of the list.

When we registered, it seemed to be fine, but my friend is very unhappy there with everything, the food, and the employees. She doesn't want to be there. The staff and services seemed fine to me. The rooms were very nice. They only have very little activities. Because of the lack of activities, I would say they're overcharging.

It is a very nice community. My mother's in the memory care part of assisted living and she's going very well. The caregivers are caring and helpful. My mom's room is an efficiency that has a bathroom. It looks really nice, comfortable, and roomy, and has room for a bed, a chair, a table, and a TV. They offer movie nights, bingo, and a day when they do manicures and pedicures. The dining area is very nice and smaller than the main dining room. The caregivers keep an eye out, make sure the people eat, and help them as needed. The food is tasty and very good.

My sister was in here before. Her room was small but clean. They had activities. The staff was OK, and she liked the food a lot. The dining area was on the main floor. They had a room where people could congregate, see a movie, and do some activities.

We moved my mother here. They are undergoing major renovation right now. They are friendly, very caring when we talk to them, and seem to understand what issues we are having at the moment. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a doctor, primary care, podiatrist, and physical therapy on-site once or twice a month. They have a nurse practitioner on-site as well. It was easy enough to transfer her medical care to the facility. The staff is quick to respond if she needs something or when the family asks them something or needs an explanation. They are very friendly.

My husband has been here since November. They do not let the people just lay around. They are busy with them all day and discourage them from staying in their private rooms because they want them out amongst people. No matter how slow or weak they are, they try to encourage them to participate in activities at their level. My husband was starting to wander, but this one has a lockdown area. You can't get out without a code. They have four or five people there at all times, and they’re right on the residents' toes. If the staff see a problem, they’re right there handling it. They’re really good. As for the private room, because my husband is on hospice and needs a special bed, the hospice provided a hospital bed. There is a nightstand and a lamp in the room; I had to provide everything else. I have not eaten there, but they have spoon-fed my husband because he cannot handle the utensils. I’m glad I put him in assisted living versus a nursing home. My impression of a nursing home is that they would just lay there and waste away, and my husband is not doing that there. The administration and nursing staff all know you by your first name when you come in and know the patients by their first names, too. They get to know their patients.

They were very kind to invite me to lunch, and I had a nice lunch in a nice atmosphere. Then, I was shown one of the dwelling places; it was a small apartment, but it was very nice, very clean, very comfortable-looking, and the person who escorted me there was very kind and very helpful in explaining what I might be looking forward to. It was a short visit, and I couldn't say anymore than this: from the outside looking in, it looked like it was a safe and homey place in a pleasurable atmosphere. I was told that they do have activities for the residents and taking them out -- taking them to the doctor and taking them on trips. The visit was so short, and I really don't have any real ideas except that it was safe, it was bright, it was clean, and it was pleasant.

We chose it for my mother-in-law. We actually chose it because of the people that staffed the place. The person who gave us the tour was wonderful and really put our minds at ease, the head chef was amazing, and the fact that they all work together as a team that you will find the chef answering the phone at the front desk, and they all get very involved in the residents and in the residents' lives. We just were very impressed with that. They have a dining room, they feed them three meals a day, and they have very good food. They have a lot of different activities including taking them off campus for lunches. They go out to lunch at least once a month. They would celebrate a different country every month and do a lot of activities centered on that country. We are very happy with it.

The vegetables and meats were standard. The dining room was very clean, and the staff waiting there was good too. They had activities like singing, people came in and played instruments, they had people reading to the residents, and they had trivia questions.

There are a lot of stores around this facility. It is not very big. The person we talked to was very nice. Most of the rooms were a living room and one bedroom because it was assisted living. The residents were much older. They didn't have very many amenities. In terms of activities, every Wednesday they would go to Pizza Hut for lunch, and they have people come in to speak.

Everybody was seated at the round table so they could talk and all the ones that we talked to seemed pretty happy. The place is very clean; they showed me several different rooms, and it was very nice. They provided some of the furnitre that they might need like a coffee table and they have little kitchen, very home-like.

I spent some time in a home here. I stayed there for one month. It was pretty. The location was across from the shopping center. The apartment was great. It was clean, and the rooms were spacious. I think some of the apartments were independent living, but the majority of them were assisted living. They were wonderful! Everyone was nice to me. I got what I asked for and on time. They checked on me from day to day. The food was fine. They have people come in to the building and they have shows; of course they have exercise classes. They have a lot of things going on.

He also has a microwave, a refrigerator and an easy chair. Food was very good and their dining room is beautiful too. He doesn't complain about the food. He certainly isn't losing weight, apparently its okay. In addition, the great room is lovely. They have activities; if you want to play cards, bingo or whatever. They also have a workout room.

It is a very nice and pleasant facility. I went there for a visit while I was searching for a facility for my mom. It's very nice and very clean. The staff were very helpful in showing me around and the things that they offer. I was also impressed with the staff because they seem to have adequate knowledge to take care of the people living here. I went there during lunch time and the residents seemed to be enjoying the food and that was a plus for me. The dining room is very clean and it seemed to be well taken care of. The rooms were very nice and clean. The rooms are of adequate size and they have entertainment area for the people. It’s a facility that would qualify for my mother's if she needed assisted living, but right now she needs a nursing facility.

They also have a variety of foods to choose from. They have plenty of things to do for their residents. They have outings and residents can actually suggest where they want to go. They will just schedule and make arrangements for it. There are plenty of activities onsite as well. The staff is fabulous. They're very nice, very friendly and willing to help you and answer any questions you might have. This is a very good facility but they're just a little bit more expensive than we are able to afford.

When you walk in, you immediately got an extremely good feeling about it. My mom moved in there just this April and I chose this community for her because it was closer and accessible to both me and my daughter. Their staff are absolutely wonderful. Their caring staff are very attentive to their clients and they learn their clients' names quickly. They also have a wonderful wait staff and an equally wonderful chef. It was just an overall great place. My mom loves it there. Also when my mom had to go to the hospital and when they called me to alert me to what was going on, the emergency team was already there preparing to take her. So I was extremely pleased that they have reacted so fast. This facility is top notch and I would consider this place myself.
