I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The hidden fees. Outrageous maintenance fees. Recent power outage was ridiculous. No heat! No one checked on them. A friend fell in her apartment no one checked on her. So Expensive! If you have money you are catered to.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Our overall experience with Ocean View at Falmouth is very good. The staff here is good and the residents are nice. We like it very much. It's an excellent place. It's completely private, so there's no Medicare or Medicaid, but the facilities are very nice. The care is good. Housekeeping, laundry, and meals are taken care of. The food is excellent. The activities are very good, too. They've got the usual bingo, but I'm more into fitness, so they offer cardio chair fitness three times a week, yoga, and Taichi. We have movies and a wine and cheese social hour before dinner on Wednesdays. There are also word games, book clubs, puzzles, and a big activity room with different things that go on there. We have a program that's coordinated between the Falmouth House and Falmouth high school where the students come in once a month and do a lot of things with the residents. I was with them one afternoon and we were just planting flowers into pots. That was probably around Mother's Day. There are always little things that have to be worked out though, individual things, like getting help structured and medications delivered on time and stuff.

Read contract carefully. Hold you liable for all fees for six months after you move out and make no effort to speed process.

I visited this facility

Husband and I have toured this facility twice - once at an open house in 2018 and again after the pandemic lock-down in May 2021. We went the second time to have a closer look and were very impressed with what we saw. The facility is old - its been there a long time, has been expanded BUT it looked brand new! We toured the main building and looked at apartments/condos. (No interest in the cottages - we already have a house) It was clean, smelled fresh, full of smiling people and the units were up-to-date - even solar panels on the roofs. The activity calendar was overflowing! The pool is now open year round and the new fitness center is state-of-the-art. The first time we visited, they were reluctant to discuss anything medical. (we were concerned about possible future issues) but this time we had a personal tour and the guide/sales rep answered ALL our questions. They do have assisted living on the campus and you have the option of hiring private staff if you choose. We liked what we saw and heard. Its at the top of our budget but close enough to where we are to keep our current routines. We put ourselves on the wait list.

I visited this facility

Ocean View at Falmouth is private pay so it wouldn't even be a consideration for us. They have very pleasant and knowledgeable staff, I was able to talk to the director of nursing, and caring was the impression that I got. It was a very pleasant and beautiful facility, new, and modern. So it was all very good. They also have variety in rooms. There weren't many activities that I've observed at the time. It's a very nice and very modern facility.

I visited this facility

Everything at Oceanview was great and wonderful, including the people, the food, the accommodations, and the choices of living. The quality of the construction of both cottages and apartments were excellent. We’re on the waiting list to move. They had a pool, exercise area, movie theatre, great dining rooms, game room, library, two or three activity areas, walking trails, and transportation services. It had everything but a tennis court.

Oceanview is nice and clean but small. There weren't many activities and amenities. I ate there, and the food was great. Pricing was competitive.

I visited this facility

Oceanview is absolutely gorgeous. It is in the woods. They have a memory center, and they have all of the free standing buildings for retirees. It is a beautiful area. Everyone is wonderful there. The apartment is spacious and very nice. They have activities -- like the people go on and off the buses because they have been out to enjoy whatever they want to be involved in. They had arts & crafts. It is a very nice place. What impresses me is that it is in a very nice area; it is right behind where I live now, and there are a lot of grounds that you can walk on.

I visited this facility

I visited Oceanview for my in-laws. The people who toured us could not have been nicer. They did have independent and assisted living. They were also building a memory care. We very much like the community. It was a beautiful facility. It felt very congenial. The facilities were just wonderful. In addition to the dining facility, they have sort of a grill room in the main lodge which people can opt to use or not. Clearly there's a lot of use to it. I could see my in-laws being very comfortable using that. For special occasion, there's a dining room in another building. The access to downtown Portland was really attractive. They have a bus or shuttle that runs regularly so that people can make shopping trips to markets in Portland as well as for cultural events. For activities, we watched some exercise class. I was very impressed with it. Clearly, looking at their activities, there were a lot of things going there. It just felt livelier than some of the other places we looked at. I would be really comfortable having my in-laws move in there. My understanding was that if they were to move in to one of the apartments that are not yet built, and they sign up, they would be able to customize certain elements of it, which is very nice. That was certainly meaningful to my mother-in-law.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Ocean View has been the ideal place for my grandparents to spend their retired years. They have a spacious and comfortable condo-style apartment, with a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom. They love the apartment and have decorated and furnished it so that it feels like home. If they need help with something, like taking out the trash, they can just make a phone call and the staff will arrive quickly and eagerly to help them at their home. Outside of their home, they enjoy the many events and activities constantly going on at Ocean View. They are actively involved in special events at Ocean View, such as the annual lobster bake, exercise programs, and special dining experiences. They also go on trips around the state to fun locations, which are also offered by Ocean View. This is an ideal retirement experience because the members have just the right mix of independence, support, and community.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

OceanView in Falmouth is a wonderful facility for many reasons. Not only do they offer different types of facilities for whatever needs your family members/friends may have, the staff is wonderful, and the other residents are great too. My grandmother initially lived in the retirement-community, where she has a property to herself. This was located a short distance from the main assisted living building. All of the maintenance work, gardening, lawn mowing, etc., was taken care of by staff of OceanView. When she was no longer able to live on her own for health reasons, they transitioned her into the assisted living program at the main building, which helped to meet her changing needs. One aspect of the OceanView experience which she enjoyed the most was community activities. There were shuttles for grocery shopping, events in the area, and OceanView itself hosted many events and activities each day. Group exercise, wine and cheese tastings, and game nights are just a few examples of fun activities for residents. Even better, those not living in the assisted-living facilities are invited to join the activities. This enabled my grandmother to form new friendships with residents all over their campus. Finally, I never had a negative interaction with a staff member. My mother dealt with much of the billing and financial details, so I cannot speak to that aspect of their service, but from what I saw and experienced it was a wonderful facility.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Oceanview is a retirement, and assisted living facility. They are building more facilities for Alzheimer's patients. Generally, I'm very happy my mother is there. Oceanview offers plenty of things to do, meals, public transportation, walking paths, and a range of living facilities for people with a range of abilities. I would feel a bit more at ease if I felt my mother was monitored more. She had to pay for her own emergency alert system in case she fell or needed assistance, and the in-house nurse assesses her only once a year. That's the perspective of a daughter who worries, though. My mother probably wouldn't want more monitoring.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My aunt has been living at this facility for about four years. She went in not long after she was diagnosed as being in the onset stages of Alzheimer's. She seems to be doing very well there. I base this opinion on the fact that her progress toward a deeper level of the illness has been very slow and I believe that if she were struggling to take care of herself, this would probably not be the case. The facility appears to be very well run, both staff-wise and structurally, She has been well taken care of both medically and on a day-to-day basis as well. She has many friends there with whom she socialized prior to living there and has made new friends as well. They offer many activities in which she participates, but at the same time, they don't micro-manage her life and choices. She still feels some control over her situation. On a 'down' note, though she is comfortable financially (or at least was, until she went in), it is costly enough for her to be there that she must share her space, which I'm sure has to have its challenges.
