This review covers 3 different stays for 2 different people. My father-in-law was in a double room a few years back and my mother-in-law was in just a couple months ago for her second time in a couple months. ALL times, I felt they were respected and very well-cared for. Staff was attentive, sometimes they couldn’t come on the double, but they came as soon as possible. There are others there in need, too. Rooms and bathrooms are kept clean and safe. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was okay. There are activities planned, but neither of them participated.

I wouldn't put my cat in that place. I came to visit my wife who is a senior and had just had a knee replacement. She was in a diaper had diarrhea and her whole bottom was full of it. There was no one around, I turned her light on and still no one came. After 45 min I cleaned her myself. It is no wonder she's had an ecoli UTI for a year after coming home. The UTI is mentioned in her discharge papers but stated she refused treatment.... who would refuse treatment? This type of UTI is very hard to treat and she has allergies to so many medications. It was up to our doctor to figure it out. After ONE YEAR and ONE MONTH, we finally got the UTI cleared up. Having this affected her PT since she burned so badly in that area that she couldn't do a lot of the exercises so her knee did not heal as well as it should have. Now she has to live with this for the rest of her life. If you have to go there do not let them put you in diapers.... that helps them but not you. Ask for a bedpan. They didn't like my wife having one but it saved her more of messy diapers. When she'd ask for help to get to the bathroom they told her in a snarky way.... you have a diaper on. Also no one ever brought her a pan of water or soap to wash. She was there for weeks without washing. The bathroom she had to share with another woman and it was so dirty and messy, she didn't use it. The day before she was to go home they took her to a room and hosed her down, soaped her up, and rinsed her off. She knew then she'd was about to be discharged. While in bed there was no water pitcher or glass. If you were thirsty you had to wait for the next meal. What was good about the place? Just the food and PT people.

This is WORST facility I have ever experienced. My family and I are disgusted how my Father was treated while he was there. We pulled him out after 1 week. What he experienced was a complete lack of care and empathy. The last straw happened yesterday and what they put my Father through was unfathomable. They ended up throwing him on the bed and he passed out. DO NOT send your family there.

I've read the reviews and agree that alot needs to improve ...statements about cleanliness...bathing..care are all true...if patient is bed ridden they pretty much are left there all day...if you have a loved one there you should be there everyday to insure they are cared for..thankful my family member came home for care over this long term. Rehab people were very good ..healthcare for our elderly needs to improve everywhere sadly

My mom is at Harris Hill Nursing Facility LLC. The facility is old and outdated. Some staff members are very warm and kind, but others are not so much. I had a bad experience there with my mother being left to sleep in her clothes overnight and not cared for in terms of toileting and clothing, not even any brushing of her teeth. They didn't give shower her until yesterday because I complained. It's just been a bad experience. I complained to the nursing supervisor who agreed with me that what had happened was unacceptable, and I was told that the staff from that day were reprimanded. My mom is an Alzheimer's patient in a rehab unit. While they say that they're supposed to be skilled at taking care of Alzheimer's patients, I have not seen a level of care there that I would expect. My mom barely touches the food. The food is a lower standard than what she had at the hospital that she was at, and a lower standard than the memory care facility she was originally in. My mom has a private room. The furniture is outdated and old. They haven't done a good job keeping it mopped. As things have spilled, the floor is just sticky, and you have to ask multiple times for things to be done and for the patient to be cared for in the way that they should be. For example, my mom is wearing a diaper, and she was left in it in the morning when they got her up. They didn't change her clothes, wash her or change her diaper. It's not the level of care that there should be. Call lights are on for long periods. Some staff are great, but some are not.

Provider Response

Dear Kelly – thank you for your feedback. Your concerns are important to us and we have shared this with our facility Administrator and Director of Nursing. They will look into it promptly.

I visited this facility

Disgusted by the care my brother received at this facility. Shared bathrooms are not kept clean, looks like virtually no staff most days call bells ring for hours, he wasn’t able to sleep most nights from someone in a near by room screaming all night. FIRST day he wasn’t served a meal tray, by the time anyone noticed, kitchen was closed and he was only able to receive a pb&j and apple juice like a child, which isn’t far off from how he was treated the rest of his stay. Nursing coordinator Courtney very rude and inappropriate! Anytime a concerned was brought up I was belittled, As we passed desk to go out on appointment she yelled out he looked sexy and he was embarrassed for the rest of the day, and didn’t want to go back. These are the people in charge! The transition into a rehab facility was troubling enough, before the mistreatment. Appalled. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Provider Response

Dear Jean – we’re sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction regarding your brother’s stay. Our team works hard to create a nurturing and respectful environment for everyone who lives and works here. Our administration would be interested in speaking to you further. Please feel free to reach out to our Administrator or Director of Nursing at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you.

I was a rehab patient there following knee surgery. Rooms and bathrooms are dirty while the halls and other areas are spotless, so it looks nice to visitors. If you have to go to the bathroom and you are confined to bed: good luck. Someone may come within an hour or more. I picked up a UTI and the type I got doesn't respond to most antibiotics. I was there in Sept 22 and here I am in Feb 23 and still suffering painful UTI's no one can cure. If possible, avoid this place. The only good thing I can say about it is the food was excellent. What I hated most was that very young men come in at night to change your huge diaper and wipe you clean. They don't care for your dignity. The diapers are a horrible way to treat someone who is in there for knee surgery recovery. Now you can sit in feces for an hour or longer. While I fight this horrible UTI that is resistant to most antibiotics, I pray I can get it cured. I've had 3 previous treatments and the UTI keeps returning. I wish I had read the reviews before choosing this place.

Provider Response

We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to learn of your UTI. Your comments have been shared with our administration and housekeeping team.

Every day when I visit my loved one, I find him dirty. No water. The place is not clean. The food is awful. He cannot speak, and they simply ignore him. The only time he gets any assistance is when I am there to force them. When I complain to staff about something, they always blame someone else. If you push the call button around 2:30, 30 minutes before shift change, no aide will respond as they prefer to leave it for the second shift. They start at 3:00, and no one will come for AT LEAST 30 minutes because they are getting their assignments. Their average response time is 90 minutes. I have already filed a complaint with the NYS Department of Health. If I could give them no stars, I would.

My dad is in Harris Hill Nursing Facility. I would describe it as really open and really clean. Everyone there was really friendly. All of their visitation is in the lobby or outside on the patio. The patio is really nice. There are 4-5 tables with a big awning and lots of flowers. Everything's evenly spaced so everyone can have a good time together. Everyone was really friendly there. I left messages to make an appointment to visit them, and they got back to me the same day. Everyone was really sweet to me, and I see everybody being really nice to the residents as well. The facility is welcoming.

If I could give this place a ZERO star rating that’s what I would have given it. DO NOT put anyone you love in this facility. It is absolutely horrendous. From lack of communication to families about care given to their loved ones, total lack of care and deplorable conditions. Bathing occurring once a week if, you’re lucky! Sitting for hours or days in soiled clothing, diapers & bedding. Not a care in the world by staff that adequate care is not taken to preserve the mental and physical well being of our most fragile generation. Animals are treated more humane. Food was absolutely disgusting- visiting hours absolutely terrible and unacceptable. Most patients have NO family advocate to fight for them in they aren’t allowed in. These patients/families deserved better and it is truly heart breaking to see how we are treating and caring for our elderly population. If you are considering this facility, read all the reviews, do your research and don’t come here!!! You will only have heartbreak, pain in your hearts for making the worst decision ever for your loved one. Find another option, give your loved one a quality experience filled with compassion - all our elderly deserve that. This place isn’t fit for any human & till the day I take my last breathe I’ll always regret sending my Mom here for two weeks of shear hell.

My husband was there for tor a very short time as a COVID patient. He was sent to a near by hospital less than 48 hours after he arrived. We never got much information and never was allowed to see him. When we tried to get medical records, some kid had to call and ask. He then said we couldn't get records; we had to talk to a social worker. I asked what where when how and he had to make another phone call and scribbled on a post it and told us to contact her the net day. This is the response to my written request sent to them. I had to go there to ask to be told to contact a social worker. Meanwhile, I observed chaos and mess from where I stood just inside a door. I have no idea what it was like further in, but I surely was very unimpressed with this home. I have been a patient and my husband has been a patient in a local nursing home. You enter a beautiful lobby, a kind smiling lady greets you, and the ambiance is much different. I am disappointed at the lack of effort of anyone to reach out to me. My husband subsequently died and we still have no idea what happened at Harris Hill or exactly why he was transferred to an emergency room, just that it was done.

This place is absolutely disgusting. Wouldnt even put my dog here...Infact my father in law would have had better care at the local animal shelter than this toilet!! He was sent here to rehab post Covid for just over 2 weeks. Checked in Christmas eve after being discharged from the hospital. My sister in law had brought clothing including shoes and toiletries...When my husband picked him up a kid dressed in black street clothes, baseball cap on backwards proceeded to wheel him out dressed in barely anything, no shoes, one sock and a severely soiled diaper! When my husband asked for his belongings the staff had nothing but a brown grocery bag which had snacks and a stuffed toy inside?!?! None of his clothes or shoes, nothing! It was then discovered upon his return to his long term care facility that Harris Hill failed to give his father his meds!!! And has a black toe which wasnt present at the time he checked into this place....Please avoid this place. They obviously are poorly trained, underpaid employees who have zero compassion for the elderly. Would they appreciate someone treating thier loved one this way?? I think not... They need to better train thier staff or hire more qualified people to work here. Shameful, just Shameful. We've already begun to file a report with the State Health Department, hopefully they will investigate.

An absolutely despicable facility. My 89 year old grandmother was put there as a Covid patient and was treated worse than an animal. No TVs, radios or phones in the rooms. Phone at the nurses station rings and rings. Was unable to even speak to my grandmother for a week due to the fact that the residents all share 2 cordless phones...in a COVID UNIT. Finally got through once only to hear an aide in the background yelling she needed to get off the phone as she’s only allowed 10 minutes because there aren’t any phones. Was told that there are 42 patients and only 2 nurses which explains why morning meds were received at 1pm .Complaints made to the supervisor have not been addressed, no phone call even returned. Food is deplorable. No laundry service. Her bag of dirty clothes sat on the floor for a week, untouched from when the transport from Autumnview brought her there. She got Covid from a staff member at a different facility and was brought here. I Brought a tv in myself for her and when dropping off an aide was sitting in a filthy, cluttered hallway playing on her phone. I was 20 feet away, standing on the other side of a glass door and she didn’t even see me. NOT WEARING A MASK OR GLOVES. I have already reported this facility to the NY State Health Dept and Medicare. If you love your family member DO NOT let them stay here.

Carl176 - I had a Right Knee Replacement on Dec. 13. 19. 1.) The food was terrible. They took your order, never received what you ordered. 2.) Re-hap was the best. The person that delt with me was, Jorden. He listened to you and was truly concerned. 3.) I kept telling the Nursing staff that I was in a lot of pain at night. They were giving me pain meds. BUT THEY WERE NOT WORKING. Every Nurse, RN, Nurse Practitioner told me that they would take care of it but after they walked out my room, nothing was done. I was up 90% of every night because of the pain. NOT ONE PERSON CARED. During rehab, the pain was just about non existent. But at night, the pain would start and not stop. On a scale from 1 to 10, I was a 15. Again, NO ONE CARED. All I heard from day one was You got to tell us if your in pain so we can keep you out of it. But when you did tell them you were in pain, nothing happened. This Place Must Think Every One Is A Drug Addict. It is so hard to exercise because of the pain I'm in. So if you come here for rehab, and your in a LOT of pain, suck it up cause your getting what ever they give you.

My mother was in Harris Hill Nursing Facility for rehab, and she ended up staying there. It's a nursing home/rehab facility, and definitely for patients needing full time care. It's a reasonable place. I wasn't that crazy about it, but that was the only place available to take her. It's near my job, so it worked out. She is in a shared room, but they have private ones too, and she was originally there for physical therapy. There are some issues they need to correct with the staff; I'm not crazy about them.

P/T staff is caring and attentive. Vanessa & Kimberly rock! Food is substandard. Served breakfast well after 10:30 a.m. Bathroom was left dirty for many hours. Soiled linens, garbage not emptied. Terrible communication between nurses and aides. Mom waited almost 2 hrs for pain medication. Was ignored by the aide. Things were marked in her chart as completed and were not done. (ie: a wound pump & dressing change) We had to ask numerous times for it to be done. Was finally completed more than 12 hours later.

I spent just over 5 hours at this facility. It was dark, dirty and extremely depressing. My neighbor had some kind of treatment error that caused her family to come in and complain loudly and long. The administrator argued back, which seemed very inappropriate. The bathroom was filthy, with one toilet full of feces. It took three flushes to get most of the material to flush. The breaking point for me was that it took two hours to obtain needed pain medication. I left just as they were locking up for the evening at 8 PM. I will never return.

Definitely not worth the money. After visiting daily for almost a year, here are SOME of the things that I witnessed: call lights not in reach of person or pulled out of wall, very poor response time, (several complaints made when no one answered the light after an hour), aides with attitudes!, aides on phones in patients rooms and in dining room, Friday nights and weekends with aides hard to find, missed meals, not properly cleaned when briefs changed, often given the wrong food despite written lactose intolerant orders on meal ticket, items on meal ticket not received, taken to dining room in sweatshirt and underwear only with blanket thrown over legs, and dirty brief found on tray in room. Only gave this place two stars because they have an excellent in house hospice program called Journeys, but not enough to offset the constant problems there, Also, after you run out of money, if you cant pay the $1 a day for TV, you don't even get television, and have to watch the screen in the common lounge. Please ignore their 5 star rating and keep looking!

I can not believe that anyone would give this facility more than 1 star. The staff spends most of their time on their cell phones and ignoring the residents. The facility itself is dated and depressing to walk through, it has no warmth which is also reflected by the aides that work here. I truly wish my grandmother had gone elsewhere. It has been almost a week and what I have seen truly leaves me speechless, when a resident asks for something or needs help the staff is put out and is rude to the patient. I have worked customer service for almost 15 years and if I ever spoke to a customer the way the staff speaks to the residents I would have been fired on the spot. Please do not take your loved ones here, try to find a better nursing home.

We visited Harris Hills Nursing Home. Let's put it this way. At the age of 70, I would have liked to join it. It was so wonderful. It was absolutely out of this world. We went through every phase of the nursing home, each and everything was so controlle, and so wonderful that we would love to put her in there. That staff was fantastic. They had the individual room and the 2 people sharing the room. They were wonderful, and they looked great. This place would have been deal for my mother. It was perfect, and I could see that it was really good. We went through a few of their programs that they did with the elderly; we even went to it when they were doing it with some of the elderly, and the connection and cooperation between the instructor and the elderly people was there. They were interested. They were alert. Everything I saw was presented wonderfully.

My mother has been in Harris Hill Nursing Facility for about a month now. They are wonderful there. I would give them the highest rating, because they are taking such excellent care of my mother. I couldn't be happier. Her room is lovely; it is overlooking a garden, the flowers, and everything. I would recommend this facility to anyone. The staff goes out of their way; they are friendly and nice, and they go the extra mile. I can rest easy that my mother is there. They have something going on all the time. They have music, Bingo, and last night they just had a steak cook-out for the residents there. They also have a wonderful rehabilitation. She is getting therapy there, so I can't speak highly enough of them. There seems to always be something going on. One thing about this particular facility, if there is something on the menu that they don't like, they can order off of a special menu. They can order a sandwich or they give them the list of other things that they can have in case they don't like anything they are serving that night.

Provider Response

Dear Donna – thank you for your wonderful feedback about Harris Hill Nursing Facility. We strive to provide five-star services that allow you to sleep easier at night knowing that your loved one is well cared for.

My Mom is a resident on a long term unit and she LOVES it there. All the staff from the nurses, CNA's, food service, Activity and even the housekeepers know my Mom by name. They are all very attentive, caring and compassionate. One of the CNA's even gave her a very touching gift on her birthday. It amazes me how they keep smiling and working so hard after watching them have to interact with some very disrespectful and rude family members! Harris Hill is a very, very special place.

I visited this facility

We place out mother in law at Harris Hills Nursing Facility because they had such a high rating. But the place was actually a dump. My mother-in-law was in the skill nursing section and the place was pitiful. They did not shower her. They did not clean her clothes. They wouldn't change her. When I took her to the bathroom, their alarm went off, then my husband who was sitting on the bed, jumped up to see what the alarm was. But that alarm went off for 22 minutes and nobody responded. There was hole on the floor of her room that I tripped on twice and the only reason she didn't was because she couldn't get her wheelchair on that side of the bed. Her clothes on her closet were thrown on the floor. The people in there were not being cared for. I had used the restroom upfront and there was so much urine on the floor that my shoes got stuck on the floor. We could've taken her out of there and they wouldn't even know that she's gone. She's totally blind and we couldn't understand why she lost 25 pounds. Nobody was helping her to eat. So, by the time she got the fork on to her mouth, there was no food on it. They'd leave her in the dining room for an hour and an hour and a half. They wouldn't let her be in her room. The one nurse we met, everybody else were aids, was very snippy and they didn't know anything. They didn't know who her doctor was. They didn't know she was supposed to do rehab. Her hand had closed up. I went ballistic when I was in there. We were there on a 5:00 o'clock on a Friday night and at 1:00 o'clock in the morning. I said: "Your mother is going to move out of there if that's the last thing I ever do".

This was a absolutely wonderful retirement residence. They had an abundant and caring staff and took very good care of our aunt. They had plenty of space to for us to have family parties and "get togethers" with her, of which we had many. The residences were spacious and very well kept, and located in a nice suburban area. I am glad she had her final days at such a nice place, when she could no longer take care of herself. The workers were incredibly patient and understanding. A funny story was how auntie would put her coat on and wait outside her room for the bus, even though this was inside the building. It became such a problem, that the orderlies had to quietly place her coat in another closet. They were so good to her! They also have very decent nearby medical services would highly recommend Harris Hill for elder care and rehabilitation.

In the United States, sometimes there is a negative connotation when people think about a skilled nursing facility, but when my friend Keith was a patient at Harris Hill, I saw first hand that not all nursing homes are created equally. Whether it was the personal attention given to him as he began his rehabilitation, the friendly staff, or the clean and professional environment, the experience at Harris Hill was a positive one to be certain. Because of this high quality of care afforded to him, he was able to recover almost completely in the time he stayed there. Even today, though he isn't a resident, he still continues his rehab on an outpatient basis. The commitment to care is what makes Harris Hill the best choice for elder care that I have witnessed.

My mother has been living in the Care Unit at Harris Hill since September, 2010. The care in this facility is tremendous. It is a secured unit of approximately 52 people. There is plenty of nursing staff, aides, recreation staff and a social worker on daily. If my mother or I have concerns, it is always taken care of in a timely fashion. The staff is always pleasant and caring towards my mother and I . There are lots of social events for the residents and families. The actual facility is always clean and cheerful. I am very pleased with our choice for Mom's difficult care decision.

Harris Hill Nursing Facility is among an elite list of facilities state-wide that has achieved the top quintile status for 5 out of 5 years, with The McGuire Group being the only multi-facility provider in the state to have achieved this milestone. Our staff welcomes you to complete an online admission application and make an appointment for a personal tour. Thank you for your interest in Harris Hill.
