There is a wonderful poetry book called Lights and Shadows in a Nursing Home by Pat Durmon. Pat is an award-winning free verse poet, and she has written this book to describe the light as well as the shadows she encountered when her mother, who developed dementia, had to enter the unique world of the nursing home. It's a beautiful tribute, and many have been comforted by the sensitivity, sincerity, and loving humor they find in this journey. I'm not sure if it's allowed, but I will say that the book is in print and Kindle form on Amazon.com, found by searching for the title and author.

I just read Love in the Land of Dementia, by Deborah Shouse. It was moving and uplifting, sometimes sad, but also helpful and practical. I think you should include it on your list.

The most empowering book I (caregiver to my almost 90 yr old husband) have read is ""THE ALZHEIMER'S FAMILY Helping Caregivers to Cope", by Robert Santulli MD. Dr. Santulli is a Geriatric Psychiatrist with an astounding devotion to the families of patients with Alzheimer's.

There is another rather unusual book about Alzheimer's Caregiving -- this one truly different from the rest. It's a humorous book, and totally over the top. And everything in it is TRUE. Check out Dunwoody Journal on Amazon.com

I recently found a book called "Nana Can't Remember" on Smashwords.com. It was short but a nice overview which we used for discussion.

Alexandra Faer Bryan, R.N., is the author of the new children's book, "Green Kitty," in which she shares creative advice for families dealing with Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. A new paperback version which includes more stories and eight new illustration will be available at the end of May. There is a brand-new book out there, just published - "Are All My Buttons Red? Thoughts from a Caregiver" by Brenda Wiseman, available through Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Taken from a caregiver's daily journal, it's a like a heart-to-heart chat with someone who truly understands what you're going through - the feelings of guilt, anger, fear - along with appreciation and compassion.

Good list & suggestions. I just read Still Alice and couldn't put it down. Very good portrayal and though it's impossible to truly know the feelings of the person with the disease, I feel like she captured the inner life pretty accurately and honestly.
