Jane Fonda: Still a Workout Guru at 73
Last updated:December 07, 2011
Did Jane Fonda inspire you to put on legwarmers and go aerobic back in the 80s? The actress, said to have ignited the home fitness boom, is still prancing in striped leotards at 73 and wants to inspire fitness in her peer group once again -- just in time for the obesity epidemic that's quickly overtaking the fifty- and sixty-something baby boomers.
"Exercise is like the number one ingredient for successful aging," Fonda said in a UK Daily Mail report on her recent "Today Show" appearance to promote a new book, Prime Time: Love, Health, Sex, Fitness, Friendship, Spirit "” Making the Most of all of Your Life. "It makes a difference for all aspects of your life and your body."
And certainly the Academy Award-winning actress and activist's physique looks amazingly similar to the way it did in her workout-video heyday. She was on TV wearing the iconic striped leotard and leggings look that launched a thousand workout videos back in the day. Don't credit exercise for her face, though: Fonda admits she's had plastic surgery there, to "look more like I feel," she said.
Fonda's also had a small breast cancer tumor removed, and in 2009, hip replacement surgery.
No word on whether she's still urging her sweaty fans to "feel the burn," a phrase that more of them may have come to connect, in 2011, with facial peels, a bum economy, and Bernie Madoff.
