Caring for my dad Member since January 02, 2011I am a 50 something daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
I had the wonderful privilege of caring for my Dad in the last eighteen months of his life. On the 20th of May 2011 my beautiful father lost his battle against AD. In life my dad was a lecturer, President of his Bowling Club and most importantly a wonderful caring husband and father. He earned his national colours for coaching a blind bowler.
My Dad's symptoms started approximately 10 years before he was diagnosed. Dad participated in two AD trials at the Freestate University. It was very difficult for him to accept the AD. We only spoke about it once.
My dad was the proudest man I have ever known. It was difficult for him to accept his loss of independence. Right up until two weeks before his death he fought AD. He clung onto his brain with a fervour that was scary.
I miss my beautiful Dad so much!
